Pack weight is definitely a big deal. My heaviest pack ever was 72 lbs. for a 28 day trip through the Sierra without resupplying. Most of the weight was food so every day on trail my pack got significantly lighter. 🌿Glad you made it through in one piece. Lessons learned.
Great video! Can I ask you about the Slovenian Mountain Trail huts. We're they often full? I know you camped a lot. I am doing the trail in July/August. I see some people advising to book ahead as it may be full but I don't know my exact dates.
There are definitely some huts (in the Triglav national park) where it is good to book ahead but I did it from my phone around 2-3 days before I arrived there. Of course you cannot plan ahead exactly but sometimes a few days in advance is fine (disclaimer: I hiked in 2021 and due to Covid there might be a chance of huts being less booked…) The huts outside of Triglav national park were honestly mostly empty. It happened more than once that I was the only person in the whole hut. Especially in the end and beginning of the trail you probably won’t need reservations. Towards the end there’s less classical mountain huts anyway. When I arrived at a hut and it was full, they also let me sleep on the ground. Especially when you’re a member of an alpine club (which is highly recommended as it saves you a lot of money) they cannot send you away as far as I know!
