Y'all, I've been pretty scared to post this video about some new life changes of mine. And while this is the least of anyone's problems right now in the world, I also wanted to come clean so that I can move forward in life.
I'm actually really excited for what's to come next in life, and feel more motivated and genuinely me than I have in a while. It's been 2 months since I've left, and I can confidently say that I made the right decision.
I'm going to continue making lots of content about tech and Software Engineering because even though I'm not working full time as one anymore, it's still close to my heart and it'll always be a part of me. I still strongly believe in wanting to make content that helps people enter the industry and talk about things honestly, openly, and productively, so expect lots of content coming your way about all of this and more! And I sincerely hope you'll come along with me on the journey.

I find it interesting just how hard taking time for yourself can feel. I was in your position 2 years ago, and did the exact same thing. I “did my own thing” for 2 years and learned a lot about myself. At the time, it was scary, fun, terrifying, and exciting... looking back now I find that it was one of the best decisions of my life. It was hard, but completely worth it. I’m not done. I’m still on this journey, but it looks a little different now. Best of luck! I really enjoyed this video, and am looking forward to hearing about your journey. Cheers!

I hope people use this opportunity (if they are fortunate enough to have it) to take a step back and really see life from a broader lens. I am literally in the same position! I am also 27 years old, and I quit my front end job without a new job. It is not working out, I am not growing... but I don't know what's next. Freelancing (Toptal), maybe? Get another job? I have enough money to last for a year; bI am having anxiety problems once in a while. Netflix pays its engineers 350K minimum in pure cash so quitting the golden handcuffs there takes some balls. Courage? U kidding me right? she has great support and probably don't have to worry about money that's why she is able to walk away. Ask an immigrant what courage is when they arrive to this country with no job, kids and fee hundred in their pockets.
@DTD2003
@DTD2003 4 года назад
It's not a competition here. Everyone's journey is different and we don't have to devalue her courage here which is real. Even for a new immigrant to this country, you can always play that game of 'what about ism' and compare them to Syrian refugees or something incredibly extreme. We all only have one life and are just trying to get by. (And FWIW, my gf is a new immigrant to the country with no family/ties to the US so I understand how scary it can be for her sometimes).

I think if there are foreigners already employed in the place you're looking at, you have a good shot. But, if it's only Koreans it'll be difficult, because a lot of people just don't know how to be around foreigners and just avoid them. There's a homogenous culture, with a strong we vs outsiders mentality going on.

Yea, @wickedcat She's a Senior Software Engineer at Netflix..shes literally the most demanded person in the entire Technology Sector. She probably has a years worth of salary saved, and knows that the next job will be at an even better company, like Facebook or Apple. So she 100% not worried. Those in the industry know quitting and getting laid off will happen eventually, better to be planned then unplanned and not progressing as a developer. That's career suicide. Also Career jumping is GOOD in the software development sector. Trust me I increase my salary $60,000 doing this a bunch. Demand means they want you even when you have smudges like job hopping on their. Its big in the Bay Area aka Silicon Valley

This is what I'm extremely afraid of the job after college. I don't want stagnant jobs but I'm gonna be a comp engr and I'm not smart or skilled in it. I always forget whatever I learn. I'm afraid of what job I'll be qualified and I'm afraid of just being in the computer 😣 I'm already 24 and still haven't graduated, I honestly still don't know what to do and I'm too scared that I'm being left behind.
