This simple method is really good advice for people. The 4" thick mineral wool is also thick enough to provide some lower frequency pressure management and your suggesting is right in line with the expert advice from people like Jesco. Well done!

Really nice build concept! You convinced me of the no-frame approach to acoustic panels.

No frame allows absorption from all angles ,well done have come to the same conclusion myself , but thinking of hanging them to give a gap between wall and also making corner panels 200mm as my first mode looks like it will be 35hz .

I made these years back and made some social media post on instagram, same color fabric and materials🧐. It’s better this way, 360 absorption. Only thing is I didn’t leave the back exposed. I would suggest to people to use fiberglass instead of rockwool, only because the glass is a better absorber, but with glass you do need to cover all. I would also use weed barrier instead of fabric, way cheaper. All at Home Depot. Also, for more absorption use adhesive spray and combine 2 pieces together to double the effect.

I like this video, very simple quick and easy to do and I imagine a lot cheaper buying them.

What about safe n sound rockwool from store for sound installation it's 3.5 inch
@adl0815
@adl0815 Год назад
Wow, that got to be the most easiest way to get a proper absorber. I always stop the videos immediately when they start to build a whole wooden frame and still claim that it's super easy to do. So, just put rockwool in very thin plastic bags and wrap them in some bed sheets might be actually something I dare to do myself. 😅👍

Right! Some of us don't have the tools and space to build wood frames. Or try a fabric or craft store for some cheap fabric to wrap them in! Just keep in mind that the type of fabric just affect how effective the diffusion is.

Nice I need to make some-based traps as well Update ! I found out through other RU-vid videos and articles that this stuff is not safe to be breathe in the air in your home It is also banned in so many countries like Europe, Brazil, Venezuela, and others

My 2 cents... It seems that more rigid material might be good idea for DIY absorption panels. But more rigid, means the denser (kg/m³ lbs/ft³) material is, the more sound reflective it becomes. Hence, the rigid materials are not good as the acoustic absorbents for the sound treatment. They are good to put them inside walls for soundproofing. For acoustic absorption panels you need a material with density in range of 20 to 45kg/m³ (1.2 to 2.5 lbs/ft³). Your suggested rockwool is 96 kg/m³ cheers
@tony86082
@tony86082 Год назад
Pretty sure I have heard Jesco say it doesn’t matter how dense…only how thick it is. He recommends no thinner than 4” but preferably 6” or more.
@tjblues01
@tjblues01 Год назад
@@tony86082 If he said so then he was wrong. By that logic a brick wall should be a very good absorber. It's dense, heavy and thick... Density of the material is directly related to *the flow resistivity.* This value describes how much the speed of the air vibration decreases when passing through the material. So it is measured in front of and behind the absorber material. The lighter the material, the more it arrives after crossing. And the denser (heavier) the material, the less it gets through, but the more it is reflected. The point is to find a material that is heavy enough to absorb as much as possible, yet light enough that the sound is not reflected.
@tony86082
@tony86082 Год назад
@@tjblues01 got it. so is Rockwool 60 not the best option? What product model do you recommend instead?
@tjblues01
@tjblues01 Год назад
@@tony86082 The whole idea was to make frame-less panels. The rigid Rockwool 60 (or 80) seems to be a good solution. But IMO a better choice would be more "fluffy" inserts, such Rockwool Comfortbatt (Safe'n'Sound) 24 inch: Thickness: 3 1/2 (89 mm), Width: 23 " (584 mm), Length: 47 (1194 mm) with 2" to 4" (7cm to 10cm) air gap between panel and the wall. Unfortunately this stuff is not so rigid and it needs a frame. The workaround might be to spray / soak a glue (or epoxy) on the sides of those batts. The frame doesn't need to be very strong because those batts are not heavy. They weight only around 5lb a piece (~2.5kg). So even a cardboard frame will do. In this case all what you'll need is a sharp hobby knife and glue. cheers.

@@tjblues01 nice I like that. I had seen that safe'n'sound at lowe's/Home Depot. Much cheaper than rock wool 60 too. Going to look into this. Thanks for the detail here! I had been wondering about the fluffy stuff...

Mineral wool 1" or 25mm thin, and 48kg/m³ density, absorbs bass at the 125Hz only 14%. You can check it. 4" or 100mm 94kg/m³ on 125hz absorbs 100% 250hz 90% 500-1000hz 100% Etc. For small rooms under 50m³, not square, you need work with low frequencies. I made panels. To the TOP, and on the sides. And rec before/after sound. ADAM A7X with AT4040. And I say, typical man, not sound engineer, who dont work in musicmaking industry, can hear difference in the sound. Difference in snares, hihats, pianos etc. And offcourse difference in bass and kicks.

Important! Breathing micro dispersion mineral wool will cancer. So you need close mineral wool on the all sides. You dont breathing micro dispersion wool! It will dangerous for your health!

bro - Home Depot and or Lowes - or any lumber yard - will cut the wood for you :)

My friend I'm sorry but this mineral wool can be dangerous for health, glass wool very dangerous also. The fibre size is tiny, from 2 micron to 6 micron, so the fibres will pass straight through the fabric. These are not meant to be in any living areas only encased behind walls or in attics. A good alternative is sheeps wool but not easy for everyone to find.

They will literally cut the wood for you at Homedepot/ Lowe’s or any place similar. 😂 did you just not have the measurements and material list set? Also, that material is more flammable than a bag of Doritos. There’s better and safer material out there like denim insulation

DANGER!!! ☠️ Health issues!!! Do not do this! There is reason for the usage of frames and plastic wrapping under the fabric.

You’re referring to fiberglass insulation. Mineral wool is safe. Wear a mask when assembling and handling, but once its on the wall its fine to be partially exposed.
