@claireful - Yes, it is truly accurate, the proportions are perfect as well! My only gripe is that I'm pretty sure that Ariel was a trout in the original, IDK not a marine biologist
i love the idea that, instead of getting legs and becoming mute, the spell cast onto her made her fully fish but had her speaking in a human language until she found true love with a submarine prince
Pretty accurate imo. I've always remembered Ariel as a realistic blue Magikarp with a couple of thick gym bro legs, and this is the perfect representation of that. Thanks Adam!😊
I have been watching his videos for so long, that when another channel appeared on my suggested videos and started using actual tools to give a rocky texture i got genuinely confused.
It's honestly really impressive just how accurate this is, it looks like the classic Disney movie tuned 3D. It's even more impressive that he did it just from memory.
Other than the fact that she had green scales, your little mermaid is spot on! You have created something truly beautiful and that's what the world really needs. Adam, you're doing God's work. ❤
@@dragon9261 He's saying he hates the idea of black people in starring roles. Because mermaids are fictional, there's no way to be more accurate in their representations. He's just upset about the live action character's skin color.
Adam, this is why i enjoy your content. Exactly this. It takes a certain kind of man to sink hours into what is basically a glorified shitpost and come out with something amazing at the end. I can't thank you enough for having reached this point in life where you can do this kinda stuff. Love it.
Wow, I’m really impressed with this recreation of Arial. It really captures the look in her eye that brings her to life, the facial expression which adds to her character, and most of all her iconic legs, exactly like the cartoon, just more realistic. You’re really talented at bringing these characters to life. Nicely done.
My favorite part of the movie is when Ariel breaks onto the prince's ship and regales him from the shadows with a fishy baritone rendition of Creep by Radiohead while he sleeps
The sculpture is, as always, fantastic but what does it say about me that every week I eagerly look forward to some more “rock texturing” 😂. I now imagine Adam having a drawer filled with different grades of “texture applicators” 🤣
Beautiful and very movie accurate! I thought something seemed off at first, but I quickly realized it’s because her scales are actually green, not blue. She looks so accurate in all other aspects that I almost missed it! Well done!
Omg! That makes so much sense now… I was thinking something wasn’t right but couldn’t pick it because I haven’t seen the movie for ages but that was it! Thanks 🙏 ETA: Still an AMAZING re-creation though. So sad that the community can do this and Disney will still manage to fuck up the remake. 😞
Adam's channel is one of my must-watch youtube channels -- when he uploads a video, I immediately full-screen it and watch the whole thing. You are inspirational -- literally, you've inspired me to get back into sculpting and upload my own sculpting videos soon!
ariel was my favourite princess as a child, i really appreciate the dedication to recreating the original design. honestly i wish i could have her on my mantle
Goliath grouper are actually my favorite fish. I had to stifle a squeal of glee so as not to wake the household. You're awesome, man. Thank you for bringing this much-needed light into the world.
Ever since I began watching your videos I've always been keen on the idea (inspired by TerminalMontage) of an almost astronaut like version of Pac Man being hunted down by some extremely horrifying ghosts in a dark sci-fi hallway of black and blue. Just a funny suggestion. Also this is absolutely stunning! (And hilarious)
This is so beautiful and gives me such nostalgia for when I was a little girl imagining I was propped on a rock in the middle of the ocean! Please do Ursula next...
The amount of snarky sarcasm you add to the narration is just fantastic! Of course your art is first class but that goes without saying by just seeing your creations!! Thanks for even more great content!
Sometimes I forget that art doesn't have have to be serious and have a deeper meaning, and whenever I feel stuck and uninspired your videos helps me remember. Art is supposed to be fun and just wanting to make something silly is okay, so thank you for inspiring me to keep making art
i love how the very first section after the intro is "Things start to go wrong" like it just immediately goes off track Edit: also, someone please make at least one scene from the little mermaid with ariel like this.
It's such a joy to see Ariel's true beauty finally brought to life. She's always had such a big place in my heart. It makes me emotional to see she finally gets the appreciation she deserves 🥹
By far this is peek performance of Mermaid design. i mean look at those dead fish eyes, the most accurate to Ariel to date i think. All that seafoam, even her sisters think shes pretty :) thank you for the giggles tonight much needed, the only disappointing aspect, her blue scales, and no long flowing fish whiskers, tuttut Adam lived for the Rock texture by Rocks xD
this build may be silly, but you've really knocked that water out of the park!! Nailing the technique so well is what brings this from a hilarious concept to a full-blown monstrosterpiece. Thank you North, as always.
I was inspired by your videos and decided to give sculpting a try today. I got together with a couple friends (one of whom is an artist professionally) and we just made some stuff and had a couple drinks. You make this look so so much easier than it is. I decided to make something silly so I wouldn't obsess over making it perfect, and I had a ton of fun! But even doing something as simple sounding as sculpting an arm took me hours to get close enough to stop! I think we are going to do it again, I still have clay and we haven't painted our things yet. But I appreciate people like you who make things seem approachable, fun and accessible. I know I don't have the skill to be good at it, but I have the freedom to have fun trying. So now I have two beefy arms supporting a nutsack with a toothy grin and bulging eyes to display in my room. Cheers.
I know in a lot of merchendice Ariel's scales look more green, but I think the blue you did is more movie accurate, like how Cinderella's Dress isn't blue, but silver/white. And you CAN'T forget her iconic red! awesome Nice job!
Ah, yes! The infamous "reverse mermaid" with the fish head and upper body and the human legs! I first encountered that concept many years ago in a "Where's Waldo?" picture, and it never gets old!
It’s such a relief that he caught onto is inaccuracy before finishing. Nothing’s more life draining that completely a project and realizing you missed something
I really appreciate how you stuck to her canon film design; really reminds me of my childhood days of watching The Little Mermaid and playing Mermaids in the pool. You've earned a subscriber for bringing me such sweet nostalgic joy
"Her hair was green as seaweed Her skin was blue and pale Her legs they are a work of art I love that girl with all my heart And I don't give a damn 'bout the upper part 'Cause that's how I get my tail" Disappointed that I didn't see these lyrics in a scroll through the comment section, but I'll choose to believe that I just didn't scroll far enough.
Looks exactly like I remember. Good thing you remembered the dorsal fin, I was about to scream at the TV about how wrong it was, but you fixed it just in time ✨
A glaze is putting a thinned out colour on and not washing off. While a wash is putting thinned out colour and dabbing it off so that it only settles into the deepest grooves to add shading.
Adam, I need you to know that your videos are my favorite part of my Friday 🤣❤️ Not only do I enjoy the entire sculpture-making process, but your narration has me cackling every single time 🤣 Never change, dude! P.S. one of my favorite fish is the Arapaima from South America!
Of all your art pieces, I think this one is the most clever and creative piece yet! BTW, I love your style of editing! And your videos are just straight up awesome!
