Lego Star Wars CMF would be non-existent in stores. It's already hard enough to find all the other CMF series. Star Wars ones would be bought out by resellers and army builders so fast.
I agree. Especially if some of the figures in there are highly sought after. I think a CMF series would work best with a Star Wars sub-series, like shows, comics, video games, and Legends material
Admittedly, if they were to do a cmf for Lego Star Wars the first few waves would probably be very common characters that are all over the franchise like R2-D2, C-3PO, and Luke but maybe versions that we haven’t seen before. As time went on they would do more obscure and rare characters like Rex, R4-P17, Kit, Mace, etc and it probably wouldn’t be till wave 5 or 6 that we see characters like the ones listed in the video above. Alternatively, they might stick to certain times in the Star Wars universe like Rebels, original trilogy, Clone Wars, New republic, etc and release a mix of common characters and very obscure characters.
If I remember correctly, they had a whole thing with another Star Wars toy IP holder coming after them for the minifigures in the fridge magnets infringing on their IP by being removable, but that was cleared up and Lego kept the minifigures glued after
yeah Hasbro has exclusive 'action figure' rights for Star Wars, this means that any sole figures of a similar type(buy one get a few accessories etc) is out of LEGO's bounds, as was the whole incident with the magnets. unless this sole right going to Hasbro is changed it's not really going to happen sadly. (you can make the Hot Toys/sideshow argument but those aren't really made for play like minifigs and action figures).
It actually says in the license that Lego got from Lucas Films that minifigures are NOT considered action figures, and thus are unaffected by the Hasbro & Galoob exclusivity deal. Lego has just been lying to us all. After all, if they can't sell action figures, how did they get away with selling buildable SW action figures? They always have been able to sell minifigs on there own, they just want to maximize profit.
@@sophiecharlottesnowe5529 How can Hasbro have exclusive action figure rights when Bandai produces SH Figuarts action figures that act as the inbetween of a Black Series figure and a HotToys collectors statue, while still being 1:12 scale.
The problem with a Star Wars CMF imo is that if Lego were going to eventually do it, the lineup CAN'T just be very minor characters or niche ones from the expanded universe. I think for it to not only sell but to build up hype is to put in variants of some of the iconic characters like Obi Wan, Anakin, Luke, Han, Leia or maybe even Boba Fett, Mando or Ahsoka. If you look at the Harry Potter CMF or DC or even the first MCU lineup, a lot of the choices were main characters like Harry, Ron and Hermionie, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Spider-Man, Captain America and Loki. If you just put minor characters in a CMF, particularly for Star Wars of all things, it's NOT going to be flying off shelves with those choices unless a lot of the main characters people know are in the lineup.
That trench is insane. Would LOVE lego to take on that figure, they’d do a great! Kinda like Dex, I’d easily pay $40 for one 😂 Thanks for sharing Zamn ❤️ LEGO… PLEASE- I’ll take that CMF
I already commentes this but: Heres a list I comprised for a split of 2 potentially Star Wars minifigure series, I tried to go with a wide range of the Star Wars movies, TV shows and videogames tried to achieve a mix of main, secondary and more nieche characters to try and satisfy everyone. Most of these are based off of characters I dont think lego would make/remake and themes that lego would not dedicate sets too. What's great about lego is lego characters have no noses, detailed line printing for faces, and a simplistic glossy design. Action figures are often molded odd, painted poorly, and are attempting to look like the character without any setbacks. This my friends is why lego excells at making you excited at getting a set with a bunch of characters in it, because you recognize it as the characters known by lego.
A lot of great information in this video. The hypothetical line up you suggested is awesome! Definitely would love to see a diverse lineup and so many possibilities with the different eras/movies! Stinks lego isnt able to but maybe in the future they will be!
I would love to see LEGO make these minifigs! I personally like 180 prints better than 360 prints since LEGO doesn't print around the whole minifigure but I am also tolerant of 270 prints since LEGO set a standard for printing on the side of the legs on CMF minifigures. The customs I like the most are the ones that fix LEGO's mistakes while still blending with official minifigures
I think 270 printing is my favorite. I definitely like to have figs that fit in with Lego and their design styles. While I love customs, there are many that stick out like a sore thumb in a collection full of official figs.
the argument of " we can't release action figures" falls apart when lego has released a whole series of constraction figures, where the only difference between those sets and action figures is that they can be assembled and disassembled. so a minifigure series would not be any more of a contract violation than the constraction series.
Besides the Hasbro action figure thing. 1. I think it could hurt Lego’s future plans of what they would want to make sets out of too. If you put out a Lando figure then you’re not going to put out a Cloud City set. 2. If you can buy a figure without a set it is much cheaper than buying that individual figure. Lego wants to make money and selling sets makes them more money than selling individual figures.
I wish they had a stormtrooper CMF. Mixed with a bunch of different troops from storm trooper to snow trooper to scout troopers! It would help us build our empire
Absolute fire video bro and a great idea. Your vids are always worth the wait and I'm glad to see you well. I'm not much of a custom minifig guy but I do have an admiral trench and darth stryfe that I'm saving for an eventual MOC (one day....) I was always annoyed I didn't pick up that bounty hunter pursuit when it was very cheap and it's now one of my white whales. Would love to see how this minifig series could grow in concept and fingers crossed, one day, we could get one and I will happily ignore the 'boxed cmf' issue to makesure I get them all in multiples. But for now, thanks for helping us dream vividly! 😊
Thanks for the nice comment! Yeah, a lot of customs miss the mark when it comes to matching the style of Lego’s own designs. Really hope they can get things figured out and we can see something like a CMF in the future.

For admiral trench a similar construction with the second torso could be similar to that of Samukai from the Ninjago pilots minfigure as the second torso would give a good height for him and you could use one normalish arm and a droid arm to show how he is a cyborg
The holiday special boba fett from like the 70s/80s. Also some character we haven’t got enough of. Bib Fortuna, snow goggles chewie. I would say Starkiller but he’s not canon. Personally I would like Eeth Koth or Agen Kolar cause I love their look. More bounty hunters, like updated Aura Sing. I would love Plo Koon in disguise when he goes to the underworld with Ahsoka. That cloak would be awesome cause I love the pattern. Don’t know how they would nail the hood but still
I feel like with the lack of support, the only way to get some sequel trilogy minifigs would be in something like a CMF. For example: Lego hasn’t made a General Leia since like 2019 (Star Wars: Resistance) & the only other version came out in 2015 (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) with the same outfit. When the Lego Skywalker Saga game came out, I was so happy to FINALLY at least have official Lego designs for the different General Leia outfits (and outfits of other characters they’ve not yet made, such as many of Padmé’s variants).
I commented about this on an Instagram account, about 3 months back. I said that I wouldn’t mind clone sets to help build up a collection of commanders or different divisions. It would be nice to have them represented. Preferably ones who may never see a set release
Aside from your reasons stated in this video, Lego legally can’t. They tried with Star Wars in their most experimental era around 2000-2003 with the trio packs (Luke, Han and Boba for example) but that breached against hasbro’s license for action figures, so Lego has had to come up sometimes with ways around to release them, individually and regular figs mostly, such as keychains, magnets, round magnets, watches, and anything that prohibits a figure from being “just a figure”, and I guess some poly bags get a nice micro build for both display and the previous method. When it comes to bagged figures like Darth Revan or the ones included in the Lego magazines, my best guess is that it falls under the category of a gift
Been collecting lego star wars for years and afew star wars funko pops and fun fact but funko has to make every star wars funko pop a bobble head (some funkos don't bobble) so they wouldn't be labeled an action figure.
Hey man Welcome back It would be great if Lego did that Your custom mini figures are great Yeah who wouldn't want to get a mini figure I would also be happy if I got this 😀 The custom clone troopers are awesome Great video Until the next video Grtz from belguim Steve
I think it's less their contract with Disney and more Hasbro's steel grip on their licence. They have done polybags but they are usually GWPs or have enough "construction" to keep them in the clear. I imagine the cost would be sky high too, let's say they do 12 figures. It's a mystery box so I imagine they would have to pay the 12 names individual licences for each box, the star wars licence, whatever cut Disney gets per unit and maybe celebrity likeness' costs. If they ever did do a CMF I imagine it would cost a lot more than £3.50. hopefully in the future Lego can sort something out because even if they charged £5 per box they would FLY off the shelves.
I imagine Lego is reluctant to push too hard either to be fair. They make so much money with the status quo and they don't have shareholders breathing down their necks as demanding constant growth. Are they really going to risk a falling out with Disney and hasbro to make better figures? I doubt it...
Please, no. Do you have any idea how impossible that series would be to find anywhere other than scalpers on the aftermarket? If Lego made a CMF of just clones then no one would be able to get it unless they paid crazy prices.
@@CloneCommanderCrater1102 where is the downside here? They flood the market, pretend to let scalpers buy it all, wait a week, do "another drop" after the scalpers overplayed their hand, and profit
A great CMF figure would have to be the galactic marines, star corps, shadow stormtroopers, sithtroopers, 2020 themed anakin and obiwan. And yes, clone commandos!
6:50 so I bought a Captain Rex figure from Clone Army Customs and I cannot get the visor to stay on the helmet, any tips on how I can get the visor to stay?
It’s confusing to me that the custom builders don’t get sued and can somehow get around licensing, but LEGO can’t. Do custom companies face legal constraints?
In another one to add to the conversation are star wars legion game minifigure which are themselves buildable model kits idk why nobody remembers this when talking about the contracts because it probably affects the allowances in the hasbro and lego ones
I think that Lego should just make a minifig scale Mantis from Jedi Survivor (that is the ship they use in the game) with a bunch of characters from the game
I think this hasn't happened for the same reason the old Minifigure packs got canned Lego Star Wars figures sold by themselves are too close to selling action figures for Hasbro's taste if they still got the exclusive license for Star wars action figures
Empire cody set, features Cody and Crosshair facin off the AAT (the droid tank) from the bad batch Season 2 (i forget the episode name) as for Gregor (CC armor) prolly somethin from the episode of which he sacrifices himself for a republic officer and R2D2 and gang on that Desolate Wasteland planet.
They could make 3 series ( one every year ) - prequel series w clones and characfers never made, a og frilogy w more detailed characfers and rebels never made and a sequel/disney plus series with characters from all the new tv shows that cant go into sets and a couple sequel characters incase someone likes the sequels
I don’t know what it says about me that I instantly knew who the backed-out clickbait guy in the thumbnail was, even though I haven’t watched the clone wars for like, at least 4 months, which is the longest I’ve ever gone.
