I've been putting off making pants for too long so I decided to take the plunge and dive into making the Clare Pants by Style Arc. These are a great beginner friendly sewing pattern which I enjoyed making, and perfect for summer sewing... but there are definitely some things with this make to keep on your toes about. In this video I'll give a you a full review of my experience sewing these pants....and if you don't know what type of fabric Cupro is, I'll fill you in here.
So if you like a good sewing pattern review... this one's for you!
For your reference, my body measurements at the time when this video was made were:
Bust: 37.5"
Waist: 32"
Hips: 44"
Height: 5'3"

That method of installing the elastic is the way I was shown when I first started sewing stretch garments in the 80's. I think they were called Quick Knit courses in Australia. Have not used it on woven fabric yet. Good way of stopping rolling of elastic. Nothing more annoying than bunched up elastic. Nice pants and the fit looks great. Good luck on the journey of pants making. I'm a bit reluctant on the pants front but have given it a try every now then. Success rate fair to middling.

Hehe… I think my mum did the Quick Knit courses back in the day. I wouldn’t be surprised if she still has some of the patterns as can picture them clearly sitting in the second bottom drawer of her sewing table. The bottom drawer had the danish biscuit tin full of buttons 😜 Funny what we can remember!!

What a successful make! I have linen, I have the pattern, but I also have a different shape. You made these look easy enough to make that I think I can tweak them to fit. Wish me luck Oh and I definitely would love to see more of this type of vlog from you. ❤

Thanks for the feedback… definitely more like this on the way. I think grading the pattern to fit as you need would be quite easy with this one so give it a go! ☺️

I love your garden catwalk😂😂❤. The pants are great too. Such a fab summary of the pattern and fabric. Never sewn with cupro - now not sure I want to😮😂. But it does look good. Happy sewing 😊. Lynne

I’ve had to go back through the Style Arc patterns as there are some absolute gems hidden in there. Been putting off making the Bob pants… but they might be next.

I love the Clare Pants. They are my favourite pants pattern. So far I have made four pairs for me and one pair for my sister. I originally purchased the pattern to recreate a pair of rtw pants I loved and cut them to match the length of them. The last pair I made the original length of the pattern and they are full length on me not 7/8 like they supposed to be. Clearly my legs are not as long as the fir model 😂 I now also topstitch down the pleat as per my rtw pants. I feel like the pattern indicates the lines for this, but they don’t mention it in the instructions.

The pants are a real success, great pattern review which I always find useful. I have the Style Arc FiFi pants pattern which I have yet to make.... I have often wondered what cupro is ,I too hadn’t heard of it until recently, now I know I don’t think I'll be using it !!!! So many thanks Kate for a really informative vlog 😊

Hi. Like you, I was suckered into buying Cupro from the pictures and description. I was a new sewist and didn't know enough about fabric to know this was probably not a good choice for a beginner! I used it to make the beautiful Pietra Pant shorts version. Ironing was an issue for me as well, but I have come to think of this fabric like linen. Yes, they will crease. No, I don't want to iron them every time they are laundered. And I have come to live with the wrinkly nature. I will say, it sews beautifully. I also understitched EVERYWHERE I could possibly think to and these edges have stayed wonderfully crisp and straight. Your Clares are wonderful!

Wow these pants look amazing you did a brilliant job making them , I’m definitely going to give trouser sewing a go I keep putting it off but I think some summer pants would be a good start . Xx

Thank you! These ones were a lot easier than I thought… but am sure there some tricker patterns out there which will test me a bit more. But if I just made these over and over I would be completely happy! 😁

Such a success with something you were a little intimidated by. That's always so great to see. And I learned about cupro, which was pretty cool, since I haven't come across that before.

Your pants are fab! I've sewed up the Style Arc Margaret Pants which are a wide leg legging, love them so much constantly wear them and get compliments. Shape is fab and pattern is super simple. I look forward to sewing more Style Arc pants and i think the Clare Pants might be next on my list! Thanks for sharing. I've never heard of Cupro before, great to hear what it is and how it handles.

Oooh. I’ll have to take a look at the Margaret Pants next time I’m on the Style Arc website (which won’t be long!!) Live a wide leg pant so might be another pattern to add to my list. Thanks for watching ☺️

Sewing up a Pattern Emporium pattern right now. Love the detail they provide. Will definitely be sewing more of theirs in future (I’ve got 4 patterns in my collection already)…. But need to go check out their pants options now too. Thanks for watching!
