Brick experiments has lifted 200 pounds with a single motor. The main issue you ran into was no additional gearing/tackle, and of course just the lego axels having limited strength. It's a good start and I'd love to see your motor power things once you have a better output system

Say youve got two motors, one of which puts out 50lbs-ft of torque at 1000rpm, and the other puts out 100lbs-ft of torque at 1000rpm. While, yes, you can hook up the first motor to a 2:1 gearset to make it put out the same amount of torque as the second, itll also be half the speed. Same torque, half the speed, half the ability to do work.

I think if you were to redo it with with those custom metal axles you could really push the motor to it’s limits. You should also maximise torque over speed by making the gear transfer multi-level, where each gear transfers to a bigger gear, then a smaller gear on that same axle transfers to a bigger gear. It’ll allow you to drive way more with the motor

You could literally do the same thing with 1 Lego motor. You would just need a high torque compounded gear ratio, similar to what you have done at 8:03 but the opposite way around. But what you did is not completely useless because just making a very high torque gear ratio would make the last gear spin very slowly, you made the last gear spinning quickly while still having a lot of torque.
@Kevin-dt9xm
@Kevin-dt9xm Год назад
So... you could not do the same thing with 1 lego motor. You just contradicted yourself. Yeah, you can make an arbitrary amount of torque using even the tiniest motor using gearsets, but the advantage to having all 8 motors is that for a given amount of output torque, you have 8 times the speed, as compared to 1 motor putting out the same torque.

As an engineer, I can give a couple of tips: 1. Use gears connected in parallel on the same axis. This will increase the strength several times. 2.Under high load, the axles also bend. You can use the holes in the gear to connect it to the load. 3.Reduce the load on the intermediate gears. Add gears and gearboxes separately for each engine. Exclude all gears connecting the motors together except the central one. 4. Reduce the speed in favor of power - increase the gear ratio with a multi-level gearbox, similar to the one at the end of the video. I'm sorry if I made a mistake in words - I'm an engineer, not a linguist.

Put 2 opposite of eachother, connected to a diff. Your power will double, and make up for whichever assembly has the first failing motor. Then, feed it into the greatest reduction train that you can fit between the two enclosures. Have an output at a 90 degree angle. Build 3 more, and have them all feed into the same reduction gear. That would be a start. I'll buy Lego stocks in the meantime 😆

Instead of just using one stick for an axle, since that middle wheel only use it to stay positioned, it doesn't need to take any of the stress of the power transmitted to it. All you need to do, is use that gear's holes in the outer rim to connect to whatever you are spinning to make it stronger and let the gears connecting to it take that stress instead of the main axle. I know what I'm saying isn't really clear... I'm having trouble trying to figure out how to explain it. I could draw an example... But I think the modification I have in mind could make this about 2 to 4 times more resistant to breaking down. A machine is only as strong as its weakest part.

Tip, you can drastically decrease chances of stripping your gears, just by adding more contact area between any connected set of gears. How can you do this? By using multiple of the same sized gears on the same axle. The more gears you add, the more torque they can handle. You don't increase power by going down in RPM but increasing torque. Power will be the same, always. Unless you put in more powerful motors.
@jacobg5122
@jacobg5122 2 года назад
Not exactly. Electric motors make more torque the closer you get to 0 rpms with a given current input. Basically, the more load on the motor, the more powerful it gets. If a motor stalls, max torque has been reached and is acting on the load. It's why electric cars are so quick off the line but top out at lower speeds. This concept isn't really relevant to what he's doing, but it's still interesting.
@19Daantje98
@19Daantje98 2 года назад
@@jacobg5122 I'm not talking about the power of a motor, but the rotational speed. If you use gears to decrease the speed of output, then yes there is more torque, but less speed. Vice versa is the same, use gears for higher output speed means less torque.

That was awsome. I'm building an eight motor engine myself but in V shape and it has tremendous power. I like seeing videos like this because pushing the limits of Lego technic is something incredible. Great idea is the biggest step. Like you said you could build a real car with those motors. They already did, lifesize Bugatti chiron. It was incredible and it's only limitation is that parts were made out of plastic. But imagine to build a lifesize technic car made out of metal parts and all other materials that are used to build a regular vehicle. That would be the top of what Lego technic is capable of. I think that kind of car could reach 100+ km per hour easily.
