After a long time away, I am back to working in the Captains Quarters! I finally was able to focus on making my own miniature model ships! Also if you have any ship knowledge at all... this might be painful!😄😄 Sorry!

As a Swede who grew up in Stockholm and been to the Wasa museum countless times it was pretty unexpected but fun to hear you talk about it and fun to see how great the project turned out. It’s a very beautiful and impressive ship. It’s extremely well preserved with more or less all of the sculptures and art pieces still intact and the ship is super big in person. And I recommend other viewers to read a little about it, and if you ever get the chance to go see it. The tours are loads of fun and very good. No military history involved. Just a pretty hilarious story of what was supposed to be the kings crown ship and pride in the navy be a utter failure. Sinking on it’s maiden voyage right in front of the crowd of thousands of people with foreign diplomats among them, while trying to making it out of harbour. It sank to the bottom of the ocean right in Stockholm in front of everyone and stayed there for 333 years. It’s pretty fun the read about how overconfidence, pride and a need to please the court lead to the huge design flaws. But also about all the craftsmanship, work and stories about the people who built the ship and was crew aboard the ship. A lot of people’s personal belongings and other details were found on the ship. And you know public humiliation of a monarch is pretty funny no matter when it happens on the timeline, and Sweden had a pretty strong and powerful navy at that time, so reading about how their smugness sort of came to bite them in in the ass with a very very very expensive mistake is pretty satisfying.

Omg that’s hilarious. Thank you so much for the story! Here I thought it was so noble and regal 😂. They were so embarrassed that they just left it down there over 300 years!!! Wow. History is amazing.

Love these little ships! Great job! What you are calling the "Flying Jib" (the piece of wood that you attach the mainsail) is called the Boom. The forward sail (the one you attached to the string) is the flying jib. Keep up the great work! Have a better day!

I have loved those old sailing ships ever since I was 4 years old and my dad made sailing boats from balsa wood and thread rigging when he was a boy and he showed me the ones he made. Plus dad was in the Navy from age 17 to 21 during WWII so I wore dresses in everything navy with sailor collars and braid growing up. I had more navy coats and dresses than you could ever imagine. I never got to wear any other color other the blue. So I just love your captains quarters and your model boats. You do such wonderful work.

One authentic way you could keep the books in the shelves without gluing them in is to put a small railing along the front, many ships did this to stop books sliding off the shelves in big seas. I recently discovered your videos and love the details you put into your work!

To secure books and other things without permanently gluing them in place, go online and search for "Tacky Wax" and "Museum Putty." (Similar items go by different names.) These materials can be used to attach miniatures temporarily to a surface. Museums use these non-permanent adhesives to prevent pieces from moving or falling over inside their display cases. The wax and putty are both non-staining and easily removed from whatever they are stuck to without damage. The wax is simply sticky clear wax. The putty has the consistancy of chewed bubble gum. And a little of either goes a long way.

These turned out very nice! However, carving rule #1: NEVER cut in the direction of yourself. Always cut away from your body. That way you won't get hurt if there should be a sudden obstacle like a knot, you use too much pressure and the knife should slide. It's mostly for situations where you cut uncontrolled, but it's safer nonetheless. I'm not a professional but I did love to carve as a child and teenager when I went camping.

Lovely, Ara! The "flying jib", however, is incorrect (but, I loved the reference). The toothpick at the bottom (horizontal) would be the boom...and the sail would be the mains'l. Jibs are in the front and attach to the forestay.

Very effective work on the ship. Nice choices on where to simplify to get the effect you're looking for. A few things I've done with small wood projects that have helped me: When drilling small holes in small parts, I never use a power drill. Instead I use a pin vise. I also will often drill a pilot hole even for quite small holes, because they further reduce the chance of damage and poor hole placement. It can be useful to soak small wood pieces in wood glue thinned with alcohol or acetone to stabilize them before cutting or drilling. You can set them on baker's parchment to cure. This increases stiffness and also reduces the chance of dimensional changes caused by changes in the moisture content of the wood. For setting the profile of a block of wood, I usually start with a saw (jigsaw or razor saw, depending on what kind of cut I need) rather than a knife. Then refine the final outline with knives and/or chisels and finish with sandpaper. (A bench grinder can sometimes be useful as well.)

Hia Ara! You did an incredible job with the ship miniatures! As for the sails - the triangular sails on ships are usually just taken off and stowed away. They might have smaller sails for stronger winds that they will swap out (so the wind doesn't tear the sails). Modern yachts sometime have special rolling mechanisms that roll the sail aroun the "rope" going to the front of the yacht.

I just finished converting a Cutty Sark into a pirate vessel, just slightly larger than your Vasa. I used pieces of black lace cut to shape for rat lines, and doll hair for rigging. Great job Ara.

On ships they often but a single rail to prevent things from falling out as the ship rolled. Could be good idea for cabins book case and ship display.

Brava! Brava to you for the amazing miniature ships! And Bravo to all of those viewers/members who created some truly astounding pieces and contributed them to your project, marrying your personality with a wilder world of similarly interested artisans. I am green with envy, but in a curious way, also proud of my association with all of you! In closing, allow me to say: Gimme more............Gimme MORE................Gimme, Gimme, GIMME MORE, GIMME MORE of your wonderful projects and the inspiration they invoke........

Ayra. you have over 51K subs. I love your work and the way you closed off the Addams Family project brought me to tears. I haven' made any mini's yet because I am newly unemployed and trying to stay sane with crafting. Having watched you (from South Africa - East London) for the past 7 months (subscribing from my very very first time), I know that you have another job outside of miniatures. My question is, do you make money from your passion? I'm only asking because I believe that - with your talent - you should be rolling in it! Love you!

Thank you for your kind words Celest and for watching💖 I do get paid for the videos that I make (from YT adsense) and I have a shop where I sell miniature kits. I also have Patreon that brings in money each month. It's not a full time living yet but it's growing!😊 Thank you!

The tiny little sail boat is adorable. Thanks for the muslin and glue tip. I've mentally filed it away for later use. Well done, my dear. 🤗 It's perfect. I'm so enchanted. :) The second ship has so much detail, and I love that you used different materials to create the details. So very cool. "You go girl"!! Your work is fantastic!

The ‘fin’ is the ship’s Keel My married name is Kelson, which is the part of the ship that holds the keel (my wife and I merged our names to create our married name and were delighted to discover it was also one of the strongest parts of a ship). 25 years and counting :)
