...and got a response?! Publishing moves slow until it doesn't.
I got notes back from my beta readers on the middle grade mystery and they were so motivating that I buckled down and knocked this revision out in record time...and then I may have gotten a little eager and sent an email. To an agent.
So it begins.

Brother laser printer. I won’t lie, this thing is a behemoth. But I’ve had it since 2017 and I think I’ve had maybe one paper jam? It works great, it’s super consistent, A++ for printing manuscripts. amzn.to/3tzIvZE
Alphasmart Neo2. Highly highly recommend. amzn.to/3cStKui

Dont apologise, Michelle! It's a good problem to have (probably bad for the RU-vid algorithm but I digress). Congrats on your query! How exciting :-) Can't wait for more updates like these. Have a great weekend, Michelle! Hi Rosa :-)

Don't worry about your vlogs being "worse" than before (I don't feel they are bad in any way btw), we go through periodes where we need to focus on certain stuff, and focus less on other to make life go around! I still enjoy your vlogs, they are short and sweet, but still pack a punch if that makes sence! 😁

I love it when feedback clicks like that - when someone else is able to pinpoint exactly what was nagging a bit in the back of your head :) One of the most exciting things for me about editing has been seeing the comments go from more structural/motivation things...to small easy fixes (a line here, a line there etc!) Also cool to hear how you "process" the feedback -> combining the docs, adding your own thoughts...I'm in a mentoring program right now and getting tons of amazing feedback, but it can be tricky to keep track of the before docs, the feedback docs, my own versions Thanks for the great and motivating vlog!!

It's the best feeling, isn't it?? Thanks, Nicole! And yeah, getting feedback from multiple people is awesome, but it can really get overwhelming (for me at least) if I don't figure out how to get it all organized. I hope your project is going well!!

I totally feel you on querying when you write in different age groups and/or genres. My main WIP is a middle grade fantasy, but I actually see the majority of my career being in adult fiction. MG was a pleasant surprise that I never expected to get into but then I had an idea that just wouldn't let me go. The advice I got from published writers was to focus on finding representation for my best book and worry about getting a second agent later (if necessary).
@MichelleSchustermanAuthor
@MichelleSchustermanAuthor Год назад
It definitely complicates things - but that is excellent advice! Also, it makes me happy that you discovered you love MG :)

[Internally screaming in happiness for you😆] regardless of which positive response (request for full/partial or simply glowing praise) I'm so happy for you! I don't want to jinx it by saying anything further, so just know I'm rooting for you. 💜 On my own query front, I came to the same conclusion as yours, knowing I might need to just query agents that rep adult fiction rather than seeking the shockingly elusive YA/Adult agents. (I'd've thought there'd be loads, but the ones I've found don't rep the genres I write, or they rep only YA or only Adult in a set of genres but not both.) But for the moment I've taken a step back from querying to finish (at least in rough draft) the trilogy I'm querying so that I can have a concrete idea of what I'm offering them. (Both for a series synopsis and because I realised querying it as a potential duology or trilogy would mess me over in the long run if I couldn't fit the end chunk into one book. Which it turns out I can't. This thing needs a solid 3 books to work, which wouldn't have been good if I miraculously got an offer and contracted to a duology.) The sucky thing about taking time to finish this series is that it'll be back to the end of the year agent inbox clear out I'd been dreading getting stuck in. (One agent actively tweeting that they had several thousand queries after returning from summer holidays, which they just outright deleted unread so that they'd have a clean in box for the new year. I was not impressed with that, especially since you don't know if you should requery them or move on.) Anyway, thank you for the update, and don't worry about not getting to your blogs as much as you want. You've got a hell of a lot going on, so it's expected that you need to prioritize work, life, and family first. (I do like that you're co-streaming the Live. I finally managed to catch one because of it, though apparently only the last two sprints' worth. I did find it odd, though, that depending on whose channel you're on, you only get to see a select few comments rather than the whole. So I kept skipping between channels to try and get the bigger picture, community-wise) Anyway, best of luck to you, and I hope your weekend is amazing. 💜💜💜

Thank you SO much, K!!! I really appreciate the support and all the encouragement (not just here, but over the last few years!!) I really think your patience is going to pay off. So many authors jump the gun with querying, but you're putting the quality of your projects first, and that's what's going to get you there in the long run. Also - WOW re: that agent deleting queries. It's pretty easy to just say you're closed to queries for a period of time - which is clearly what they should have done! It was great to see you at the livestream! I always look forward to Wednesday mornings. It's so nice to feel social for a change, haha. But Streamyard definitely needs to fix the weird comment/chat issue!
