Very important share. A grinder with abrasive wheel is a fast way to get the glue off. I really like your customer commitment. You will likely get more projects because of it. I do repairs of my own mistakes as well. The best glue I've used is PL Premium.

Yeah I should have brought my grinder along with me. Thanks John!

PL Premium is The Shit, I’ve also been able to use the SRW brand and I think they’re the same? Both work the same for me at least but tried and true is the PL

Grinder is a great way to get the old glue off but another tool that I’ve had really good luck with is an oscillating tool with a flat scraper blade, it’s almost like a spatula and the biggest upside is it reduces the amount of dust and dirt you create to almost none compared to the gross toxic cloud you’ll kick up grinding it off

without telling me what to avoid I don't find this very useful. Please at least show the tube that you recommend.

We have used Alliance glue and some SEK glue that have worked excellent. But our favorite is Platinum. You should always check with your local supplier because they may or may not have any of those and see what they recommend

Way to be truthful about a fail. Spread the adhesive in a short bead rather than dots you will have much better results. I have been a Stone setter for 50 years I feel your pain.
@iamahardscaper
@iamahardscaper Год назад
Definitely! Good advice. However with these wall units they have ribs so if you do beads it would be wasteful. We do beads where there is full contact.

Call backs are a bitch but I'm glad you honoured your guarantee. Glue is amazing stuff. Every application has its specific requirements and it's good to know that the glue you replaced it with is flexible. The person who sold you the original glue may not have known the caps were for a flexible system so that's why vendors need to know their products and communication between all parties is a must.

What brand of a adhesive are you using now?
@iamahardscaper
@iamahardscaper 3 месяца назад
I was using Platinum but it is now not available. Though I believe it is the same as TechniSeals sticky stone. I will probably start using Alliance XP

I have never used hlue for any type on masonry. Why does it have to flex . I set in Florida, I understand frost heave but madonry and pavers have been used for thousands of years without that need?
@iamahardscaper
@iamahardscaper Год назад
The whole idea behind interlocking concrete pavement and segmental retaining walls is that they can flex and still remain rigid. That's why if you pour concrete, it cracks under that same movement. So that is why there are adhesives on the market that bond to concrete and also provide the flexibility necessary.

5 inch grinders and abrasion discs , i use them to flat grind burrs on concrete blocks and ive used it on that glue before . works like a charm

Thanks for the video. I am wondering what brand of glue is being used in this video? The caulk tube has the word "PLATINUM" on the side of it, but I can't tell what brand it is. It seems to be very flexible and that is what I am looking for. I have used the PL500 Landscape Adhesive before, but it lacks flexibility. Thanks!

The only supplier of platinum that I know is great north Hardscape. I don’t know where you are located and if you could get it

@@iamahardscaper Thank you very much for getting back to me on this! I am located in the state of NY. I see that Great Northern Hardscape is in Canada. It will be difficult for me to get product from them. I am wondering if you are aware of any other landscape adhesives that remain flexible after they are fully cured? Thank you. Joe
@iamahardscaper
@iamahardscaper Год назад
I think the best bet is to find a landscape supplier near you and see what they carry. I honestly don’t know another adhesive that is as flexible. I like Paver Bond. And Alliance makes good adhesives as far as I hear as well.

I found PL Premium to be the best adhesive. It comes in a blue tube yellow lettering and the glue itself has a tan color to it. Ive found for whatever reason the white adhesive has more of a lightweight property to it and doesnt bond as well. Im no adhesive expert by no means but over the years using several different types ive found the PL Premium to work very well

Unfortunately it’s not really competitively available so unless your willing to pay $30 a tube plus shipping you can’t get it. I think they do that because they are one of a few foam based adhesive for Hardscaping on the market since DAP stopped selling theirs makes you wonder why there are not really any foam based products because they seam to really lay the flattest.

I use loctite PL 500. but I have heard of another caled "structure bond" by techniseal, do you know if it's any good? especially for Northern climate?
@iamahardscaper
@iamahardscaper 2 года назад
It is really good. I don’t use it because I don’t take good care of things and the gun that comes with it needs constant cleaning after use or it becomes clogged. It also needs direct contact, so caps or walls with small variances in heights are more difficult to shim if necessary because it is more of a liquid / foam.
