Hi Friends! I have spent the better part of the last decade trying to meet a real-life cannibal, and I finally have completed my goal here in Varanasi, India. For real! His name is "Baba" and he is an Aghori man who lives on the banks of the Ganges River - the site where more than 300 bodies are cremated every day and their ashes are thrown into the river. Varanasi is the most spiritual place in India, and for Hindus, it's the holiest place to have their bodies burned.
Baba explained to me the various reasons why he eats humans (spoiler alert: he said the heart is the best part of the body) - and what I discovered will leave you speechless.

In Hinduism, ash is holy, mostly from scented wood, special herbs and flowers. These are Aghoris, using human ash is extreme for most Hindus but normal for them.

This is extremely uncommon and unpleasant for us Indians too, but this is common around the area where cremations are done. There are aghori babas in these areas who practice this rituals.

@@drewbinsky Also, Aghorism is not very open in other cities. Only in Varanasi they are this bold. As a lot of bodies there are of people who live outside of Varanasi, they are left unattended after rites as their family has left the city. Most people don't prefer their loved ones body being eaten.

Being a Hindu, and solely based on our scriptures, these acts of eating human flesh, drinking alcohol, smoking bad stuffs, even consuming flesh of other creatures is prohibited, but people choose to do these acts, Hinduism is quite broad but we do not commit any sort of acts like this, we strictly follow non violence. But different people believe different paths to explore their faiths.. I believe that applying the ashes signifies the detachment from this material world to symbolise that death is the ultimate reality and everything's temporary but the other acts i do not support personally.

New subscriber here Drew from South Carolina 🇺🇲! As uncomfortable as it is, especially the first few mins, the vlog is actually interesting in giving insights and knowledge to other culture/ritual. Also, it showcased how respectful people in India can be. I really give props to you and your team for putting together a video with a focus on a cannibal and cannibalism without a drop of sensationalism, but rather one which evokes curiosity and shows what are, to the great majority of people, seriously disturbing practices and unnerving individuals as more of an ancient and specific cultural occurrence practiced by people that are considerably closer to normal people than we think. Yes, he does stuff that's even frightening to most locals, but the way you interacted with him and how he was shown in this video barely even gave me a fraction of the horrible vibes other videos and documentaries about Aghori Babas I've seen before gave me. I don't know if I've expressed myself properly, but to sum it all up, you make amazing travel videos, ones that are really capable of showing things through different and more respectful perspectives :) Thanks a lot for that!

Definitely one of your edgiest videos yet. If I won the GoPro Hero 12, I’d use it for content on my journey of playing football in every country in the world. Mate stay away from dangerous places and you'll be fine,the thing is there very few safe spaces😂,trying visiting states like uttarakhand,Himachal,Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Sikkim and Goa probably the best places I have been to as an Indian myself,these states are also much safer and on par with international standards in terms of safety .

Hii Everyone! I am an Indian and I am Totally aware about aghoris ( not cannibals) and their intentions. Aghori path is a sort of spiritual practice to attain god realization. A aghor has to accept and do everything that the normal people call bad and uncivilized to go beyond duality of good and bad. The practices of eating human flesh, urine, and all that does not permit the aghori to kill somebody. They have to only eat what is already dead that is why they stay near cremation ground. So please Don't associate aghori with cannabis they are purely evil meanwhile a aghori has to become opposite of evil and leave his ego to reach God. Now, one might question that why someone has to choose such path to worship the goddess? because earlier some people questioned that why only sweet, angelic things lead to God. If God is beyond duality than we can achieve God through such practices too. Whatever a aghori do is only to serve the goddess and not to harm others. Nowdays there are many fake aghoris because a real aghori is so wise and clearly doesn't care what people think of him. He takes whatever is left- the ashes, flesh, bones to survive and prove to goddess that he is her true devotee who has gone beyond societal judgements. 🙏

Varanasi is not even close to being the world's oldest continually inhabited city. Varanasi is around 5000 years old. Some cities in Syria, such as Damascus or Aleppo, have been continuously inhabited for as long as 11.000 and 8000 years respectively. Byblos in Lebanon has also been continuously inhabited for 7000 years as well as other cities in Iraq and Iran.

he is reall.. the skulls etc the real aghoris only have. you need to have license from the police in varanasi to have it.. thats how you can see the real aghoris to. I met with this Baba to. Locals touched his feets etc when I took him out for dinner.. even his skulls was at the table haha. Watch my video if you like. we eat "humans" he drinks his urin and make a lot af rituals. but dont doubt he is real I also saw him at kumbh mela hindu festival with other aghoris.. and remember theres a difference between aghori babas and aghori sadhus.. Sadhus normally even more closedthan teh babas.. But not totally impossible if you get to know them good either . I couldnt get at video with aghori sadhus at this time. But i build up trust to some now and locals who knows them to. So next year I will have the chance with the Sadhus to. This aghori left his parents when he was 10 years old with a "teacher" (another adult aghori baba) and stayed at the cremation ground for 12 years and practiced all their stuff for all these years to become A REAL AGHORI. I know this by fact.
