i am thinking to get an i-MiEV... how does the battery perform in winter compare to normal weather? (like spring or summer) i test drove one and it seemed like the range would decrease quite a bit on highway drive. do you agree?
Yes, the range goes down a bit during the winter but there are ways to mitigate this problem. I only recharge the car late at night and time it so the charging ends just as I need to use it the next morning. This keeps the batteries warm. Next I use the heat very little, even in the cold where I live it's doable with a warm coat and gloves. Next, I just drive slower, I've learned to live with it. I'm able to get to work on 2 extra kilowatts of electricity in the winter. I have a plug at my garage that I use, it helps.
