For what it’s worth, I’ll always remember you as the guy who heard “say something gay”, jumped from the countertop and said “I’m gay”. Genuinely peak of comedy.

Because all his other content has done oh so well...... Yeah, super funny dude. For all the tards responding; the rest of his videos barely manage 10% of the views his content cops received. I don't care how you slice it. All other forms of your content receiving anywhere from 80-95% less viewership is not good.
If you told me like 3 or so years ago that iDubbbz would change from "everything is okay" to "none of it's okay" over the coming year(s), I would've laughed thinking it was a joke
I believe he implied that it was just more nuanced than believing those kind of concepts are as black and white as “all or nothing”. He’s obviously been dealing with a lot since then thats hard to articulate in a short video, but his “empathy bar” getting filled the way it did evidently has a lot to do with him coming face-to-face with his viewership. Something pretty intense has obviously happened to him.

Maybe I’m too low class but I loved you calling out internet assholes and lazy hacks. As long as I live I will never ever understand how these people have the popularity that they do or really how they have any audience at all. It was nice to have someone call it out.
I don't think that's what he's talking about, although I doubt he'll go back to that anyways. I definitely wish he would every once in a while. But this seems more that he has grown up and stopped shitting on people in tasteless ways. I'm sure Ian would absolutely still shit on asian Jake Paul, he just wouldn't be racist about it and focus on the actual shitty parts more.
I think it's not like they don't deserv to be called out for their shitty behavior, it's more like the *way* he went about calling them out. It was aggressive, antagonistic, openly hate-filled, just sorta made him similar to the people he was criticizing and contributed to the negative culture rather than a calm, collected exposure of bad things people haven't answered for
He's not saying they don't deserve to get called out, it's more about how he went about it. He actively encouraged harassment and in a lot of cases that lead to threats of violence and racism.
@Caleb Rohn he was literally only racist because that's exactly what Ricegum wanted he wanted him to only roast him based on his race and it tells me you didn't understand that content cop. Ian said slurs to show him he didn't give a fuck and that the flaws Ian had with him weren't based on his race. He said them to "prove him right" so ricegum could say "look he called me the bad words see! He's racist!" But in all actuality if you listened to any other part of the video youd see the flaws with ricegums personality, content, and behavior we're what he was actually critiquing. Ian systematically took away Ricegums racial argument by giving it to him and immediately throwing it to the side.
8:20 I hate how he doesn’t realise the net positive the content cop videos had made, he called out the most BS content creators and humbled them, showed the world the things that those creators did were stupid and helped us make them change. Because of him people have started to question what content creators were releasing and how to act on it rather than just sit and be mindless consumers
Yeah but he did it in the wrong way when he harassed Tana (which may had been funny at the time) it was wrong and unnecessary plus idubbbbz is basically saying who is he to judge someone when he isn't that great of a person either.
Well I thinks it's more of a moral issue - the train paradox. Don't touch the leaver and passively let 10 people die, or touch it and actively save them but also actively kill one person. He sees the net positive I think, but he has his issues of how he got there. He thinks, and I think he's right, the way he conveyed his message was too hurtful. You don't have to be this mean and make fun of his personal appearance to criticize leafy for example. Even tho he was a pretty bad actor. There's always an alternative.
I actually think the squirrel videos you made were some of my favorite videos. They were funny, it was interesting to see what worked on trapping them, and it was nice to see them relocated to a park at the end. I still sometimes rewatch them. I don’t remember the last time I thought about the content cop series or watched one.
I do miss the content cops that were on the worst of the worst. Keem and rice gum for sure. Living up to the cop part of the title. The depths you went to line up the objections to that person being on the platform was nice. I totally didn’t have to search “Asian Jake Paul” to figure out ricegum’s name.
Your Content Cop videos were fun and mostly justifiable. Your dunk on Keemstar, Leafy and Ricegum were glorious and fun to watch because they made youtube dramas back then fun and opening segments were funny. Edit: Also, I am okay if you decided to stop making Content Cop. I just think your newer videos aren't interesting or fun enough. You even "work" with a grifter.
The Leafy one was justified, but the video was quite shit. Instead of focusing on issues, he was just chin shaming. Which is why exactly he was having a content cop on leafy. The rest were great though.
To act as if there is no nuance to life or language or behaviour is just a pathetic attempt to mask inappropriate behaviour. The way I always describe it is that you might make a 9/11 joke between your friends, but everyone would agree that making one at the funeral of someone who died in 9/11 isn't an appropriate or nice thing to do. To accept that fact, is to accept that there is nuance to every situation depending on the people you're with, the words you're saying, the intention of the words etc.
that content was just as edgy as his content cop's though. Half the punchlines were slurs or bigotry which is antithetical to Ian's point about how he wants to apologize for his bigoted content which just so happens to be 99% of his catalogue before Full Force and youtuber boxing. His success was being edgy and he wants to kick the ladder out from getting big doing content cops now that he has youtuber boxing to carry his income.
@@Groovieboneslmao what? He changed way before boxing, I’d say right after the last content cop is when his content started changing, the man was making videos on how to save squirrels and find coins in his yard, maybe full force and boxing were the popular videos that brought it to your attention, but they were definitely not the turning point to say that all the content before it was “99%” edgy
@@Grooviebones the only way you can describe this as "kicking the ladder out" is if you misunderstand what is going on here at a very fundamental level
"I made mean, cruel, hurtful content" On self centered assholes who needed a wake up call, I don't see why idubbbz thinks he was such a bad guy for calling out click bait narcissists or literal scams on kickstarter
@Survival Tips and Tricks I get that but he said it because he had a reason to, she acted like she never said that shit when there were multiple videos of her saying the hard R, it's just dumb to go back on your own beliefs and values, I do believe "either it's all ok, or none of it is ok" because it's bull shit that one slur has more power over another, either we can say them all or none of them
Well the actual cruel and hurtful stuff he was talking about was more to the degree of the Tana video wich to any adult watching with hindsight would be considered cruel and just weird. Like if you really think about it it was literally just a harassment campaign on an 18 year old girl. Like that is kinda fucked up
@@ghost8487 its really interesting to see that this is how people percieve his changes. i think it says a lot more about those still stuck in the past than about ian himself
Doubt it. In comedy usually Someone at some point is the butt of the joke. If all you do is hyper fixate on not offending anyone then your comedy days are done. I think he’s done. He’ll just upload apology vids for ad rev every now and again.
I know this video is sincere but the ‘I’m sorry to everyone I made a content cop video on, I still don’t like the majority of you’ made me piss myself. Your a funny guy Ian always have been
It is funny but I honestly think it demonstrates a lot of maturity. You don't have to like someone to take responsibility for what you did wrong. Disliking someone doesn't give you a free pass to do whatever the hell you want. Not if you're an adult.
@@lordgoogoo69 strange how a man can show humility and apologize, and idiots on the internet will look at a general human value and because YOU don't like it. You have to attack him personally. I'm not sure he's the hurt one here.

I get Ian was very loose with slurs in the old vids, but content cops are harsh videos on people with shitty behaviour on the internet. Ranting on about keemstar, tana, ricegum, leafy is bigotry? Honestly I think how toxic idubbbz's community is has made him overstate how bad the actual content of his old videos were.
It wasn’t the videos themselves the criticisms were fine but some of the things he’s said (especially with the tana one) that was just too much. He can criticize ppl without calling them the r-word or the n-word.
See when I was younger and watching Idubbbz content I was, not on the same level I think, but more in the camp of being like his more toxic fan base. The years have turned me into a hard far leftist. I still am edgy and value edginess. I still see a lot of value in his older content. Plus I feel like a lot of his arguments for things that haven't aged the best still have a sliver of correctness in them.
there's a lot of polarizing things you've said in the past, and some of it hasn't aged well, much like many things from that era of RU-vid. But, amidst the questionable content, there were moments of pure gold. You were the first to call out Keemstar and Leafy, who caused significant harm online. You created brilliant content like the Kickstarter stuff, the Save the Squirrels initiative, the parody of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, legit food reviews, and so many more. While there were damaging aspects associated with your online image, don’t forget the abundant moments of greatness sprinkled throughout your videos. Embracing who you are in front of so many people and keeping it real in different phases of your life is what makes you iDubbbz.
Yeah cause yelling Ni**er on video and then telling fans it’s okay to do that is Definitely him doing a lot to fight racism huh? Yeah I feel real supported.
cruelty is endemic to the internet, as I get older I retreat more and more from internet culture and realise how, destructive, insecure and insane it is. This is the kind of self-reflection and "human" perspective that's sorely missing from, just about anything that happens in online communities.
I feel the endemic internet culture of cruelty and hate gets replaced with younger people who cycle through it the same way we did as young teens. I'm glad this video brings up the self growth of people like I have went through.
I feel the same way…I barley try finding any streamers and RU-vid communities to join now compared to when I was in high school. I realize how cringe some of the stuff I said made me look as a person and I eventually grew up and even had to let go of friends that just wouldn’t grow up. And what makes me even more sad is that is that this is going to be a repeat cycle of mental damage to future generations of teenagers…we were part of a cycle and there is no way to stop it and society won’t do anything about mental health and we need to fix this. It’s ok to laugh at something dark humor once in awhile, but to make it your whole personality and sit and devote your life to one content creator who spreads misinformation and toxicity is just not right and I hope we can change as people eventually
Looking back at idubbbz content I completely understand where the cringe comes from but the videos i watched more were the Anything4views, max and filthy frank content which was just insane and the ridiculousness of it was what kept me coming back. Seeing the 4 of them transition into something more has been a journey. Even if its music, boxing or drunk podcasts seeing you guys make content you actually feel proud of is the best part.
You're still (and always will be) the guy who jumped off the counter in a green morph suit with a creepy smile on his face and said "i'M gAy" while looking into the camera.
Sadly he can't see the humor in that and CERTAINLY doesn't appreciate the very process that made him a multi millionaire.... That succubus absolutely ravaged this man's life and he'll never be the same again.
The current generation is soft and thinks any critique is considered “harassment” these days. Although we can thank RU-vid in part for that. Basically banned him from making content cop. Instead of being himself (or within some framework that’s still possible on RU-vid) he’s going on the apology tour because that’s what the audience wants to see now.
The idea that everyone is amazing and we're all beautiful is decent in theory but doesn't work irl. When he said his audience needs to experience the real world to be empathetic, That's actually the opposite of what happens because you will get eaten alive by people if you're naive like current Ian. This is just sad on so many levels. Just treat people with respect unless they give you a reason not to. Edgy humor is fine as long as it's in the context of humor. The people who do criminality will do criminality regardless of whether or not you're "influencing" the audience like he said. Content creators are absolutely not responsible for their audiences unless they explicitly advocate for criminal behavior which very rarely happens anyway. The idea that growth in the day and age means being a spineless person is the actual red flag. I lost all my respect for Ian. This is my opinion.
@@shaytanszenith887 isn't it funny that he started becoming soft when he saw the "real world", when ironically his "Real world" is a rich LA stereotype not anything like the real world everyone else lives in

@@charlietraynor-croft6393 Seeing all the "he's censoring us" conspiracies on a video where he openly invites criticism and literally criticizes himself for 90% of the duration is honestly hilarious. Peak lack of self awareness and vilifying a RU-vidr because they don't make the kinds of videos you want. I've seen a couple dozen popular comments constructively and non-constructively criticizing Ian that have been there since the video was uploaded, you guys just like to assume the worst of everything.
So you apologize to all the RU-vidrs (with money/voice/support) you content copped but never mention a word of kickstarter crap? Why exclude them? Why does Tana out of all people deserve apology but not CQuaffine, Pisces, Leusick, or Dayron? Who got more damage from those videos? Them or Tana?
i think the vigilante justice was the main draw for Content Cop, not the slurs or occasional weak joke. if it wasnt for those videos, we wouldnt have seen the transition to documentary style videos that have been a huge hit. when "Full Force" came out, I immediately saw how it very well could have been a CC video. you took your outsider looking in approach that made the vigilante justice so appealing to another level by humanizing your subjects and peeling back the layers of their character. the slower pacing and longer run time that lends itself to the yourube algorithm today along with youtube moderation suppressing videos that are considered harrassment or are vulgar definitely is the reason for the transition, and you might not have made Content Cop if it was not for that style of videos being pushed by the algorithms of yesteryear. we're all shaped by the environment we inhabit and that needs to be acknowledged. i hope this doesnt mean future videos dont push the envelope 😢
Maybe he is also tired. I know for sure that judging others, even if it's fair, is just mentally demanding over time. So, i totally get his change of mind bc i really regret how i expressed myself in the past and the harm is made. I can only go forward now, i'm really trying to be better, for my sake and others.
Bad unboxing was always worse than content cop as far as offensive shit goes, if woke twitter wanted to cancel him they coulda done it when he ripped a quran in half
You can be funny and classic without going around saying slurs and getting naked and barfing on yourself, my favorite part of your old content is the wild ass ideas. Trapping squirrels, going into storm drains, opening up random ass packages and combining them into an amalgamation, it was unique and fun. Throw out the gay jokes and getting naked in sewer water and you'll still be able to be unique. Your ability to make any random event a comedy moment is something you're good at.
Well the sewer pickle video was hilarious imo, theres not much negative I can say about that bc it was creative and funny. But him saying the two slurs back to back was extremely cringy and something he absolutely should not have said. I laughed at the time but looking back, that was an awful thing to say.
He was funny before he met that prostitute and yeah I know it was all an act. He's Jewish and his early work was a parody of a straight white male, he even joked about it when he said "I'm just a straight White male" and blurred his nose out (a reference to being Jewish). Since he started acting more like himself his content went awful, he will never beat bad unboxing and he "nose" that and I think that's what bothers him, the fact that Jewish Ian is NOT funny or entertaining and the crazy White guy iDubbbz is a more likeable and funny guy. That's what eats him up inside.
I do think there was merit to those old vids. Particularly the keemstar one. There is value is fighting back against a figure like that. But once edubz got the reputation as a destroyer of worlds the vids became less about calling out bad content and more just personal attacks.
YES EXACTLY! People like Keem and Leafy were genuinely deplorable, but then after that it was mainly just run of the mill cringe youtubers he called out, which was excessive. Like, NOBODY was calling out Leafy and Keem, and idubbz singlehandedly swung the hammer and killed their channels (well keemstar's a fucking cockroach so he always squirms his way out). The reason why many of the subsequence content copped people survived is because it's more just personal taste and petty drama imo, not an actual cancer to the platform
My favorite videos were the Kickstarter Crap videos just because it was interesting looking at all these Kickstarters that were doomed to fail. Not because you were making fun of them necessarily, but just the idea of the product being so ridiculous or whatever and your comedic input made the videos fun to watch. I still go back and watch them every now and again. I can relate to changing over the years. I grew up in an area that is almost completely white people and in rural farm land. I grew up around racists and that's just how it was. Using a word to be funny but not to be offensive BECAUSE the word was offensive; the kind of ridiculous loopholes you justify to yourself why you use certain words. Since then I've grown as a person and look back on my past knowing I'm a better person now. That's what happens though when we get older, we grow and learn and hopefully improve. I'm gonna be 32 as well this year in a few months. I wouldn't say I identify with Ian in some major way, but I think there's some things I think we all go through and it's nice to know you're not alone in the growth you undergo as a person. I don't miss the old idubbbz, but I do miss the more regular uploads.
He will never be the person he was in those videos. He can say he was only funny and knew how to make content when he was hating on others, yet the unboxing series and stand-alone videos with frank and max, show he had so much more and he knew it. Max didn’t change, look at how well cold ones is doing. Idubbbz has completely fallen from grace, and it sucks. Was one his biggest fans at one point, now I can’t stand to even hear the name. I seriously doubt anyone ACTUALLY thought he hated black people or trans, he was clearly a character. Idubbbz has indoctrinated himself into the idea that he has to bow down to everyone else, and act in the way we’re told. I think words are words, and when done right, you can say anything. The n word worked better than anything else with tana, because Ian could see she was so touchy around the word, despite using it herself. He was proving how two faced these liberal social warriors are. And now he is one. Rest in piss, idubbbz.
Honestly i think what was fun and funny about content cop was you just setting up and writing hilarious joke about something your passionate about. If ya did content cops on like some of the stuff from the idubz complains series but not directed at one person just kinda at whatever niche thing you are complaining about just with over the top bits and jokes. But yea im definitely on board with your current stance although i will miss content cop. Just a replacement series with as much effort put into it would be amazing.
She definitely did that on her own, she runs the relationship not him, that's why he has her last name. He's just selling out to get sponsorships and brand deals.
Man, you really are overstating your impact on the life of others and the internet. Don't get me wrong, you are an alright dude and make neat content, specially with the doc stuff. But you need to stop this whole "it is my fault, i brought evil on this planet, i am responsible for so much negativity" attitude. And if you really feel like you have damaged someone else, maybe try making a direct apology instead of making videos that will please no one but yourself and the people you seek to impress
Honestly, I loved your stuff back in the day even as an almost stereotypical SJW tumblr girl. I think it was because you made it pretty clear that your edgy jokes didn't come from a place of hate, and I respected that you stuck to your principles- even if your principles just kind of amounted to pushing boundaries for the sake of pushing boundaries. I'm happy to have seen you grow as a person over the years, and really enjoyed hearing your conversation with Anthony Padilla. If that growth involves unlisting videos, more power to you dude!
It was only clear if you also weren't hateful, which is kind of his point. He wants to avoid the ambiguity because especially on the internet it's easy to gather the wrong crowd who thinks you're funny for the wrong reasons. You can be edgy and be funny if you're laughing with the people you're mocking but it's hard to toe that line, it's easier to be ambiguous and just dismiss responsibility when you do cross the line. If he wants to avoid doing the latter by not doing the former, that's alright with me.
I'm the same (SJW tumblr girl) and honestly I just found it really funny when he, Frank and Max would do shit like eat hair cake. The slurs and offensive humour were something I had to tolerate in order to see the other funny stuff. Didn't necessarily enjoy it but at the same time it's not like he joined the KKK or anything so I could put up with it.

Definitely matters how you go about making that kind of video. Gotta be sure it’s someone who undeniably deserves the hate, cause he can’t control his audience to an extent. Like, does a guy making lazy react videos deserve it? Ehhh probably not
The hate Tana got was seriously harmful and unlike anything I’ve seen. Tana’s video was particularly hateful and Ian harassed her in person. I’ve never even personally liked Tana but I do remember the tana content cop left a bitter taste in my mouth. It felt particularly mean spirited
I think he agrees that a lot of the people he made content cops on did bad things but it comes down to: does the punishment fit the crime or in the context of content cop, does the harassment/hate produced by Idubbz and his community fit whatever the person did wrong and the answer to that is usually no. So I do not think a lot of the people "had it coming" because they got over punished in the form of hate from the mob of people in Idubbz old community. I think if you disagree on what I've said then you have a naive concept on justice and fuel hate online.
He absolutely had it coming... If he's not the same guy then why is he still enjoying all of the benefits and money and fame and views and everything else that comes along with having a huge RU-vid channel, if that channel was literally built by that awful content. @@dsbmcel he didnt influence anyone lol 12 year olds probably shouldnt even BE on youtube. and youtubers aren’t your personal babysitters, and he never told anyone to shout the n word from the rooftops at all. people should take responsibility for their own actions instead of blaming others. idubbbz never told any of his fans to idolize him.
