We are moving again! This time, we are moving from New Jersey back to New York City, as we suffered from a sort of eviction by our landlord, due to negligence. It became impossible to live in our apartment because of the noise, flooding, no heat and no cold or hot water. So, we decided to move to Brooklyn and stay with mummy Georgia.
As we are in a pandemic, we are not allowed to commute to work in offices. So Simas is working from home and needs peace and quiet to focus and get work done. Avri commutes to her internship at a Manhattan hospital. Coming from Brooklyn, the trip is longer and she needs to get a ride or take the bus to the train station. In Jersey City, we live within walking distance to the train so Avri has more freedom and it's easier to figure out the commute.

For those of you who may be wondering why we don't just suck it up and deal with it, these are the types of issues we've dealt with in the past few months: no heat, no cold/hot water, smoking, pests, noise, construction, mold, bad windows/draft, electrical problems, sewer clog, lack of cleaning in the common spaces and much more. This is unacceptable.

All reasons to break your lease. Take them to court.I know,the first thing people say is,they don't have the time and money. This is why it keeps happening. My husband does property management,glad he's no a slum lord or only care about collecting rent.

Love you Georgia, original Jamaican/Portland mama. You took good care of your daughter and son-in-law and always does that. No spoken words of hospitality, but the action shows..its the culture. Simas get accustomed to it, that's how she shows her love, nevertheless she means well. From a Portlander and past student of Titchfield.

It’s nice to have your mom close by! My mother in law lives in Texas and we haven’t been able to see her since our wedding in Jamaica, which was March 2019. So we’re hitting the two year mark! We miss her so much! She’s been trying to come for a visit, but we’re in Canada and our boarders are closed due to Covid!

Their's law that protect tenants. The landlord should have provided a place for you to stay,and notify you of the work/noise. If you haven't, you should look up your rights.

Sorry to hear you had to go through that with your apartment! Hope gets sorted soon. I must say though- whilst watching this video, there seemed to be some kind of ungreatfulness for Georgia/ mom's compassion and care! She is a great mom! All I saw was her kindness in this all. I could tell Avri, that your mom was kind of getting fed-up with some of the questions you were asking her(esp on camera). Such a shame, you both see Gerogia like that(or gave such a negative impression)....I think she is very caring and kind. BTW, I rate her for always keeping the place clean & tidy! God bless your mom/mom-in-law. Keep doing what you are doing Georgia!

When I watched this video I was laughing. Why? Because it Avris' Mum eminds me of myself. That's how we Jamaican women operate in the house 🏠 🤪! We love our independence but we will never turn our kids away if they want to come and stay in times of need. And you know what? Our children don't mind "katchin" because they will get good food to eat.
