I am from Grenada and went to the UK for university at 16. I kid you not I cried everyday for 3 months straight. I stuck with it because I got a scholarship from my country and didn't want to disappoint my parents. The culture shock was real and the subtle racism was so disheartening. Thank God for his mercies I graduated 3 years ago and was adamant that I was staying in the Caribbean to do my masters, which I did. Graduating in Novemeber with my MSC.

I am Nigerian and moved to the US for college at the age of 16. Completely relate to your story of financial difficulties ( tears whenever my friends would ask about classes and I would have to be like not registered) and plagiarism(😅 Jesus ohh) and microbiology the class that stressed me out the most last semester. This is my third year in college now. Thanks for sharing your story, inspirational and makes me feel like am not the only one😊

I can so relate. The financial aspect for me was a huge burden. I was not prepared. The one thing that saved me was going to community college. It was cheaper and I was able to get refunds.

@@enowetenneng9787 you can take some credits at a community college and transfer to a 4 year university. Basically after the second year at a community college, you can transfer to a university. Community college is like the first two years of a university. I recommend starting off at a community college because it’s far cheaper. For example, in California, it would cost about $45/ unit and so for a 3 unit class, you would pay $135 and for a four unit class you’d pay $180. The equivalent at a four year would be about $600-$800. If you use financial aid, you’d pay nothing. You may even get some money back which you may not have to pay back- if it’s a grant and not a loan. Of course if you’re a non citizen of the US, you would be paying international prices. I still strongly suggest community college for those who are just starting out. It’s the same education you’re getting for cheaper. Forget what you’re told about community college. I was told the same and I graduated from a community college with a degree in nursing.

@@enowetenneng9787 nursing is definitely a great idea! Don’t worry about what you did in high school. In fact, if you have a Nigerian degree, don’t even bring it up because it may affect your financial aid. I didn’t do sciences in secondary school/ besides bio which was compulsory. For nursing, please don’t kill yourself trying to get into a big name school. All you need to do is pass your NCLEX. If you go to a community college, you can get your associates in nursing and you can still work as a nurse. It’s cheaper that way. You can go on an get your bachelors degree completely online while working as a nurse. Anybody can become a nurse. Is it stressful, yes I won’t lie. The course can be tiring. Hopefully you have family in the US who can accommodate you while you study. I have a suggestion, try and work as a CNA because not only will you be making money, in some nursing schools, they require you have your CNA while some work on a point system and give priority to those who have their CNA. CNA is a certificate. Don’t do it at a community college because it takes maybe four months. In private schools, you can do it in as little as four weeks.

Am also the oldest you never wanna watch your parents struggle to make ends meet simply because you what to go to school. I love you the more sis ❤️

You keep doing great work!!! I have had a professor try some madness like that. My Degree is in Criminology. First, she love all my papers until she asked the class to discuss rather women of color are policed different from white women. I gave references and facts she gave me a C on that paper. I emailed her telling her I would be to her office the next morning, then to the Dean's office. She emailed me back and changed the grade of my paper to a B+.. Yes, lil Sis God is always working!

My best friend dealt with something similar going to college in the US coming from the Islands. She's had to figure life out for herself all the while staying on top of things with college. She had to do 5 years instead of the regular 4 because they didn't take her previous credits from her college on island. 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️She's on her last semester now so she'll make it through. Maybe international students will do better online, bcuz they will be able to read the information and not have to decipher the Canadian accent and local vernacular. I was born and raised in Canada 🇨🇦 from Haitian 🇭🇹 parents, but I live in the US now. I salute your courage and I must say I love all your videos. I definitely can relate with you studying abroad is not easy especially being by yourself with no one to give you adequate information is not fun either in the classrooms or online. I had a similar experience when I relocated to the U.S, after I started school , I didn't understand a thing that was taught as a matter of fact I still struggle with some classes where you will be wondering what the professor was teaching but I must say that your school was really super strict on the plagiarism issue what you did was not enough to want to expel you or even give you zero after all the hard work. I also can relate with the fact that you had to take a year off I had to take more than a year and right now its like my seventh year for a four year course I had to go on maternity leave and change jobs here and there but hoping to graduate next year spring by God's grace. It is really not easy for Nigerians studing abroad but with hard work and never giving up we always achieve our goals. Congratulations girl! Thanks for sharing your experience keep soaring in all your endeavors.

Something similar happened to me recently we take the whole plagiarism/sharing materials differently in Nigeria, you need to be in a place like Canada to understand it is no Joke,we are alike in a sense I am also terrified of exams😅 but we strong😁 good Job girl..

I can tell you there are students who schooled in Nigeria that never fell guilty of plagiarism. It's a serious issue all over the world. I know a lecturer in a Nigerian university who lost his PhD as a result. You don't need to live in canada to know how serious it is. You just need to jam a lecturer who doesn't tolerate it. All over the world, it's a crime.

I remember one day we had classes all day...your baby girl did not have money for lunch..I just went to library and hid in one corner...remove my garri and suger put in a bowl..add my water...👌🤤

❤️❤️💯 everyone's route is definitely not the same. Atm I'm taking a year maybe two off to work and continue my education while everyone I started with is continuing. I just know that I'm going to look back at times like these in the future and be like yes God I did THAT!! I finished studying 😊😊 thnxx sis for the motivation

However I am planning on it very soon. Thank you for saying what you said we may start together but all of our journeys are different but it's alright where you are in life.
