Good luck with the move guys... I spent 7 weeks in Uruguay and absolutely loved it. Now I'm back in Australia and enjoy Uruguay through your videos. What a great place to live, Montevideo was incredible and ciudad de la costa was something else too. Awesome lifestyle in Uruguay, good on you guys for having a go and living the dream. Cheers from Down under... 🇦🇺🇺🇾

thanks for the comment! can i ask what your favourite part was? and what points do you think our chanel is still lacking / what types of videos do you want to see? i'm dedicating more of 2024 to content creation and hoping to post at least monthly to this account! so let me know what you want to see and i'll make it

I love these kind of videos because they authenically show what it's like actually living in Uruguay (like the challenges etc.). Thanks for sharing your experiences with us Maddie & Ale!

thanks for the comments, thats truly our main goal, to help others to see what it's like here, and hopefully avoid some of the struggles that we went through :P any video requests? i'm making a list and plan for 2024, so many ideas but i don't know where to start!
@jonathank6126

@@MaddieAle Awesome! In terms of video requests, if you haven't already covered these in older videos) - 1. Gringo pricing in Uruguay (Is it prevelant etc?). 2. Hair and skincare products in Uruguay (are international brands available? Is there a wide variety sold locally?) Also, (if possible) maybe interview or get info from a black/POC living in Uruguay on sourcing suitable hair & skincare products for that demographic in Uruguay. Like, is it difficult? (I've been looking for this info everywhere but it's been super hard to find. I guess it's probably because of the small population in Uruguay). 3. Is buying a car in Uruguay relatively easy? Also, what's it like driving there? Are many drivers hostile on the roads or have road rage? Do they adhere to the driving rules/laws/traffic lights etc? So, those are my suggestions for future videos. Look forward to your new content in 2024! :)
@MaddieAle
@MaddieAle 9 месяцев назад
thankyou these are excelent suggestions! to be honest, there are very few black people / POC, most are either US tourists or Brazilians. I have heard clubs can be racist about letting people in which is really awful, but i don't know much else so interviewing someone would be great. I would say as far as products, there are many brazilian brands available in uruguay and those are the ones i would trust regarding curly hair textures etc, just because of the much greater diversity in the brazilian population! but I will add these to our video list and see what we can come up with!

@@MaddieAle Hi, now seeing your response. Thanks so much for the info! I appreciate it!
@agusguti

@@jonathank6126 hi! In Uruguay you have brands from around the world. The black community is large, maybe you're not looking at the right place or is there a language barrier. Sometimes sadly you find racist people but is not normal, we are a society built with people and that's it. We have a small population yes but we have refugees from several countries, they get documents and jobs and the kids are in the schools. So we have extremely huge variety of cultures and how we look like. Usually in Uruguay the rules while driving are well followed but gradually each year's we have more and more cars and that create problems. But a red light is a red-light!!! In terms of rage, well, sometimes you find someone who wants to say a few things but just look to the opposite direction. They are not gonna take a gun here. Buy a car is easy of 0km and it depends if it is used. It's my understanding that cars are more expensive here!!

Dang what a journey!!!! It’s so difficult to find a place that checks all the boxes and is in budget, but I didn’t know it was this hard! Loved the additions of maps and Info about each area and the pros and cons of each place!

30000 pesos was a two-bedroom house in Montevideo?!!! My goodness. I heard it can get pretty pricey out there. I'm looking at the Philippines and Uruguay as my new homes, so this is great information.
@MaddieLucaMalan
@MaddieLucaMalan 9 месяцев назад
30.000 was a 2 bed, 2 bath in lomas de solymar, you can technically find 2 bedrooms at the same price (or less) in montevideo but the size will be halved. the "second bedroom" is usually about 2.5m2 so good luck using it for anything except a desk and a laptop!

well then you will definitley be ok in montevideo, truly our main reason was wanting space for our pets, but without pets or if you just had one, there are plenty of places in montevideo that are nice, especially pocitos / punta carettas / malvin or carrasco, they are more expensive but i think its worth it!

It's just going to be me with no kids or pets or anything, AND I live like a minimalist. All I need is safety, INTERNET, convenience to get my necessities, and a little nightlife to truly immerse into the culture. @@MaddieAle
@MaddieAle
@MaddieAle 9 месяцев назад
perfect then i'd look for apartments in these areas i mentioned. pocitos is my favourite, punta carettas is also really nice and you can get beachfront apartments with great views for the same price we paid for our houses, they are jsut smaller! a monoambiente is basically a studio apartment, or you can find plenty of 1 or 2 bedroom apartments for reasonable prices if compared to other countries. just if you are living off of a uruguayan salary, these neighbhourhoods are expensive, but if you have dolars, you'll probably be fine! check out infocasas or mercado libre for options

First time seeing one of your videos.. Not trying to be mean, just a little filming/YT advice, it'd be nice to have some parts of the video with only images and music, maybe a time lapse of the house you are visiting, or something like that. I'm in the minute 10 and it was 10' of you just speaking non stop. Thats not very YTing, it felt like a class of house hunting.. it's needed to have a break with music. Cheers.

Looks like we are neighbours, I am English living in El Pinar, been here for 20 years this year. Only moved once from Lagomar to El Pinar. Good luck with what ever it is your up to down here. Challenging place to live but worth it. x

Beautiful area. When i lived there as a young kid they didn't call it Ciudad de la Costa. It was a collection of small neighbourhoods Shangrila, Solimar, Lagomar, El Pinar. My parents had a lovely place in nearby Parque de Miramar. My family decided to migrate to Australia in 1974 and sadly i had to say goodbye to the place i spent part of my childhood in. I have beautiful memories of going swimming in the lakes and beaches in the area, riding my bike through the nearby Franklin D Roosevelt national Park....it was the most joyous time of my life If I return one day to live there i would certainly be looking at Ciudad de la Costa. Enjoy your stay Cheers 🇺🇾🇦🇺

yea i really don't know who would have paid that monthly to live there, there was a good size yard but the fence was falling apart, i think just because it was a couple hundred metres from la rambla, they thought they could bump the prices :P

I love your RU-vid videos Maddie. I’ve been following you for years now. Just out of curiosity, could you tell me what is that thing at 11:34? I cannot figure out what it is. It looks like an oven.
@MaddieAle
@MaddieAle 9 месяцев назад
hahah great question! it does look like an old fashioned oven, it is the heater for the house! It's an old fashioned wood burning heater or here you could call it a "estufa" i've never seen one before in person but it is supposed to be quite energy efficient because of how thick the whole thing is! It isn't as aesthetic as an open fireplace where you can watch the flames, but it will be a lot more efficient! :)

To my humble standards, which of course are not the highest as you can find among demanding or rich people, all of the houses you showed us are awful, a psycho torture as soon as you step in, more appropriate for terror movies than for any other use. It creates an artistic huge contrast, an absurd mismatch between your outstanding beauty and that terrible stuff.
@MaddieAle
@MaddieAle 7 месяцев назад
... It doesn't sound like you have very humble standards. Obviously the houses have their issues, because we are looking at houses that are less than 800 USD/month, so they are mid range here, not the worst, but far from the nicest. If you think this is horrendous then Uruguay is probably not the country for you :P

the exchange changes quite regularly, but currently it's about 1USD=39 uy pesos, so today 19,000 pesos = $486.40 USD or the house we are renting, 20,000 pesos = $512.20 USD per month! crazy compared to US or Australia prices, and still a good price for Uruguay, mid to low range :)
