That's not the first "Don't let the lawn die" death bed wish I have ever heard. Now I know that my neighbor wasn't the only lawn nut on Earth As far as I am concerned, if this was his "death bed wish".....it was time for him to go.
I did this to a house on my street that had an issue with the new owners being delayed in moving in (I learned that later as I told him I mowed his yard when I met him). I actually LOVED doing it because: A) his yard isn't that big. And B) I wanted to test the power of my new electric mower on THICK 9" tall grass!!! I was amazed how well my Greenworks mower did.....and it was funny to see the NEXT day a service come to "mow the grass" that was concrete level. LOL (We assumed the HOA president, a retired yard nut, called someone to complain, and possible fine them for having long grass) I watched the guy "mow the yard" shaking his head almost the whole time. You could tell he was saying "why am I here" to himself the whole time. Gotta give it to him....he went over the whole yard.
@@Sahadi420 the guy that cut the lawn anyway after it was already done is not an honest businessman and I would never do business with someone like that. I do this for a living by myself and I would NEVER do that. One cut's pay is not worth losing a customer forever because they saw you show up on their ring cam and basically take their money.
The home behind me was vacant for a year and I got tired of seeing the grass look like a redwood forest. I then took it upon myself to mow it but did not know that some latinos had purchased the home just not yet moved in. They came in and caught me mowing it one day and ran over asked me what the heck I was doing and I explained to them I was helping them out. They then painted my home for free and started bringing me home cooked meals LOL. The owner came over and said his painter crew was joking about how its the gringo that was mowing the hispanics lawn but we have become very good family friends LOL
We helped our Hispanic new neighbors get out of snow drifts the first year they moved in. Weve had the best pecan pies and desserts now for three years. We feel blessed and they are sweet people.
@@dougcooper5740 Does it or does it not? I feel I may have sniffed out a typo but I'm not sure. On either hand, I feel it's an interesting example well suited to the topic of moral particularism, where it can be considered right to help in some situations but not in others. Doth he presume to much? Am I to say? Either way
I was a single mother for ten years. I worked multiple jobs. Sometimes, I would come home to find that my retired neighbor had mowed my lawn when he did his. It was so appreciated!!!
Random Karen in HOA calling the cops “hello I’d like to report a stranger in my neighborhood “ “What is he doing “ “He’s just cutting the grass menacingly “
Man that’s what I was gonna say, if I came home and someone did my lawn I would have assumed that I accidentally received someone’s paid service. I did snow removal for a company and a few times neighbours would get free snow removal because we would get out and obviously end up at the house next door on accident.
Leave it to the mexicans my amigo!! Me and my vatos will do a better job for half the price...not even give us Change!! Were illegals holmes we accept anything because we do not wanna be deported!!
"Weren't you gonna mow a big heart and your marriage proposal in that lawn today, Jim?" - "Yea... not sure what happened there... Gotta be a sign right?"
Don’t get your tips from this guy. He makes sponsored videos/dies product reviews. If you want know how to cut a yard properly this is not the guy to watch. Nice guy that makes enjoyable videos. But he’s terrible at cutting grass.
As a teen I worked as a pool cleaner for a company. I drove from house to house and had about 8 pools to clean per day. One day I complete all my jobs and head home. Later that day I get a call from my boss about a complaint that I didn’t show up, I assured him I did. Turns out I cleaned the wrong houses pool. I’ve always wondered what they thought happened to their pool and how all the acorns and algae disappeared...
I worked in lawn care and aerated lawns one time i aerated an entire front and back yard while there was 2 contractors working on a patio and the owner of the house showed up about mid way. Nobody said anything to me so i kept working. At the end of the job when i walked up to the front door to give the guy his receipt, i looked at the adress on the house and the adress on the reciept and realized i had just aerated the entire property of the client's neighbor. What kills me is the guy came home to some random kid aerating his lawns and left
Last week I plowed the wrong driveway lol Texted the guy I was done and started mowing on to the next house, 2 minutes later he says no you didn’t. You did the house next to me. O Ooops!!😂😂😂
I lived in San Antonio for a year and when I slacked on my lawn care one of my neighbors would go do it for me just without saying anything. I think it secretly annoyed him when I didnt cut the grass so he'd do it while I was at school. And I didn't have a string trimmer so when I was done mowing he would take it upon himself to do the edging and trimming for me lol. Nice guy overall 👌
I'm in San Antonio too and my neighbor did that for me after we had our baby. I randomly cut his grass now too. I made the mistake of doing it while I was pregnant with #2. I just love cutting grass. He nearly fainted lol.
@@ChristinaQueenHeart 210 as well, I cut my neighbors one time because their landscapers were burning/scalping their grass. They never told me thank you or anything 🥴🥴
I mowed three neighbors lawns when they were on vacation so they wouldn't have an overgrown lawn. Did it several times. Went in for heart surgery triple bypass ....... No one even offered to do mine. Lesson learned. Never again
God knows. And it may come back to you in other unrelated ways. I did learn in my own life...do extra for others if you feel like it....that way if/when they don't reciprocate you wont be mad.
Meh. If you're voluntarily doing a nice thing you shouldn't necessarily expect something in return. It's nice but they didn't ask you for it, you should do it to be nice not because you want something back
I had a neighbor that lived across the street from me a couple of years ago at a house I was renting with my family when we were between selling a house and buying a new one. I noticed that he was going through a pretty tough time with what appeared to be a divorce or separation and listing the house for sale. He would come home just about everyday with a case of beer and head inside for the night. I think he was kind of depressed or just didn't care anymore because he had let his yard go. The neighborhood had an HOA too, so they were pretty hard on people not keeping up with their yards. I would go home at lunch and mow the yard over a couple days and his yard was so small I would just knock it our for him.
It is very worrying the direction some laws are taking, honestly. Laws that are technically made for the bad guys end up being applied in situations like this on a daily basis just to get some quick bucks to run the police departments and increase the stats.
This past summer I had to mow the lawn for the house I lived in with a really shoddy gutless mower. The grass was beyond over grown, it was a nightmare. The lawn itself wasn't very big but it took me twice as long because the mower kept bogging down from the thick, lush, green, wet Alaskan grass. It started off as me just trying to do something nice for the house and put down a couple in the process but man did turn into a job i'd pay someone else to deal with. Literally every push forward it would bog down, every other push the engine would die, and about every couple of yards i'd hit a nest of mosquitoes and get eaten alive. To make matters worse it had a bag on it but it wouldn't fill. I checked everything, and she just kept flinging cut grass all over the sidewalk and driveway.
A lot of people in florida have st. augustine grass and cut it way too fuckin short because they don't know any better, then it ends up looking like that neighbors.
I mowed my neighbors lawn for free all last year. Her husband did something stupid and went to jail for 18 months. Anyway, I did it for free without asking because she needed help.
Good to see you being a nice person. Is she capable of using a lawnmower or wanting pitty and acting like she is helpless? She probably has a lawnmower.
It looks greener and healthier than the ones on either side, because it has a strong deep root system with long blades to produce nutrients that have not been damaged by lawnmower blades. Also, the two on either side are cut to short, to often and guess what they turned brown.
@@abramg11 Yes, I like walking in a nice green soft yard not an ugly brown hard crunchy yard. The one he mowed was able to grow and produce longer roots and become healthier than the two others. 99% of the time grass is cut way to short and/or to often, in turn the grass is in shock and dies. Do you like green or brown grass?
Y YIII, I’ve cut my grass tall before and it always ends up yellowing/ browning and burning out and feels like you’re stepping on tree branches because tall grass has bigger stalks.. This year I’ve mowed low all year and the lawn is still green and thicker than it’s ever been. I’ll keep mowing low and you keep poking your feet with grass bud! Oh also it’s a proven fact that when you consistently cut short your grass develops a stronger root system than mowing high. Mowing low also helps keeps the weeds out.
@@abramg11 thats not exactly true. Although mow height is dictated by grass species. Warm season likes to be shorter, cool season likes to be taller. 2 common examples is Bermuda can thrive at 1-2 inches and fescue likes 31/2 to 4. Source former phc tech in MD and true green tech in NC
We had a good neighbour too that mowed our grass when we we're on vacation.. sadly they divorced and he moved away. Good man indeed, more neighbours like that.
When my next door neighbor lost their house a few years ago, I mowed the yard that whole summer before the house was resold by the bank. It just made my place look better. An empty house with a grown up yard attracts the wrong people, like squatters. Good job.....
I had a neighbor, well 2 blocks away, that was deployed. I think I cut it for over 3 months before his wife finally caught me doing it. I tried to always cut it early in the mornings before she got home from her nursing shift. Drive the mower over with the trimmer on my lap, knock it out, and sneak back home. Needless to say she was very appreciative.
"who's going to get mad that you're mowing grass for them?" Umm my neighbor, I knew that their mower caught on fire so I decided to help him and mow his lawn for him and he went and had our properties assessed and had flags put up and everything. Some people take that very personally. :-(
My neighbor . They have their own business and are very busy . They had been away on vacation for 2 weeks and I noticed the grass was getting tall ( weeds were about 2 feet tall ) and it was obvious nobody was home. So in order to try and help them out and not make it obvious to someone looking for a home to break into that they were gone , I cut their lawn for them . The husband said his wife didn't like me cutting the grass because she felt I was " encroaching on their property " .
@@Brett33 I believe it. You got to watch though because some people will try to say you hit their siding ect you never know people are out to get you these days.
That was nice of you to do that for free. I’ve done that before, didn’t ask and mowed a ladies yard. She was soo mad because I didn’t ask! I was just trying to be nice. Thanks, mom!!
My neighbors take turns to cut each others yard and sometimes will come over and cut my yard while they are doing theirs. I am absolutely not mad about them doing that and return the favor when I can, although since they are retired ,it's difficult to get ahead of them .
@@Brett33 that’s how it should be. Hmmm if only the world would apply this to every situation. People doing things because they needed to be done, taking care of each other’s like family. What a great dream.
You’re watching a channel about lawn maintenance and mowing and you don’t get excited about cutting your grass?? I love it when it rains because that means I get to cut more. Mowing grass RULES! Especially when your main work isn’t satisfying at all. There’s just something so nice and satisfying about keeping a really nice lawn. To me anyways.
@@JonBecker81 I love the feeling of satisfaction I get AFTER I'm done mowing the lawn and trimming around my new shrubs. WHILE I'm doing it, though, I'm wishing I could trust a service to come in and not mow down all of the desirable plants I have in unexpected places. Mowing when it's almost 90 degrees sucks, and that's all there is to it.
When I was a teenager, our next door neighbor was a elderly lady who was in her late 80s. My brother and I often mowed her postage stamp sized front yard when we did ours. At the time, there was no dividing wall and she never said anything about it. We were not sneaky about it and it added only a few minutes of lawn care time for us. 😊 As for you, you are a sneaky lawn trimming ninja! 😂
@@CopperCreekCuts I've got two epic stories about the same house: Back when I was a teen, this guy lived next door, and for years kept his lawn nice. But, one summer he was away for a few weeks and the HOA fined him for the grass being too high. As a form of "protest", he decided to not cut it and waged a war against the HOA (which he lost in court). That didn't deter him, however, and the next summer he decided to let it get out of control intentionally. My other neighbor (HOA president) got so pissed that he cut the grass so low that it took chunks out of the dirt and basically scalped the lawn. It was priceless watching this guy driving the mower and whisking the weed-eater in a purple-faced rage ;)
@@CopperCreekCuts The other story isn't about rage-cutting, but it deals with the lawn of the same house. The crappy neighbor moved out and the house was sold to this woman. The lawn was over-grown (not as bad as before), and when the lady came by to meet a guy for some estimates on a new swimming pool, we met her for the first time and she seemed nice. She did mention the bad state of the lawn, and said that she dreaded trying to get it cut when she moved in. Well, my dad and I decided to cut it the next day (cut the grass, do the trimming, weed the mulch beds and do the edging) as an act of neighborly kindness to give her one less thing to worry about, as we understood the stress of moving. We actually didn't plan to tell her it was us...just let it be anonymous. BIG MISTAKE. She apparently had activated the security cameras, and she called the police and had my dad and I trespassed from her property because she didn't feel "safe" that we took it upon ourselves to illegally enter her property, and that we could be potential k i l l e r s. Yeah, she was, and still is, a psychopath who has called the police so often on her neighbors that the police just roll their eyes.
ive mowed with my dad for the past 3 years and it really does make you think about yards differently😂 i thought i was the only one that just wanted to make them look nice
It's so sad how, in our society, someone has to be scared to do such a selfless and generous act of kindness such as yours (victimless as you called it) because it would be considered 'trespassing' to mow a lawn for a house that is on sale. We shouldn't have to be so afraid to want to help eachother out and or any living being on this planet! You should be able to mow that lawn for the hour (however long) it took you to mow it without being in fear that you may get noticed and get in trouble. I personally thank you, that was very sweet and selfless of you!♡
Well, the only problem is that in certain situations it isn't victimless. I would hope that in this case there weren't any downsides for the homeowner, and there probably weren't, but there is still a chance. The best way to go about something like this is to ask the person you're trying to help. An analogy: Unless you ask, you could be trying to help a toad by putting it in the water.
It's okay guys, it is just grass and it will grow back incredibly fast. No one is going to get hurt by his lawn mowing actions. Some of your comments is exactly what I was saying people are afraid of when they shouldn't be, from the repercussions of societies norms, to think something as non-damaging and helpful as this has some kind of (or is 'supposed to' have some kind of) of negative reaction. I mean come on people! Thank you for proving my point to anyone who disagreed with my saying what he did was selfless and victimless. Relax, chill out. There are much more important things to worry about and or comment on than cutting four inches off of resilient and quick-growing grass in front of a house of which is uninhabited. He makes many videos all of the time that all seem to be quite successful, so this video wouldn't have been missed if he decided not to help out and mow the lawn. Other than maybe soothing his "OCD" (so to say) by finally cutting one of these overgrown lawns, his actions were completely selfless, I believe. -Anyways, have a wonderful day🙏🏼.
So empathize with you, Brad. I've told my wife several times when we went out somewhere that in my retirement I'd buy a small trailer to carry my mower and whacker, and do to our medians around here what the city and county won't. I fail to see how city officials can move about the city and find all the weeds and overgrowth in public spaces acceptable. Makes me wonder what their own places look like. And yeah, there's a couple properties I'd like to have a whack too, just for the satisfaction of making it look better. Well played.
It all comes down to money, are u going to pay to have it done no and pay to have weed killer down no. Although it don't look pretty its not the end of the world. Trust me i get it i hate it too.
@ChuckD59 this is exactly why I decided to buy electric yard tools. I knew I’d be walking around cutting everything I could access. I gotta say the limitation has proven me right on many occasions. 🤦🏻♀️🤔
@@drakewesterman9798 I think it's a lot more than looking pretty. I think people are affected by how their surroundings look and are maintained by their tax dollars. Not everyone, there'll always be a segment who will cause mayhem anyway. But keeping the weeds cut from the traffic barriers, mowing the medians, just making the place look respected can have a subliminal effect on people.
@@TheKing2606 Yep I always cut my grass to 4-4.5” no more than once per week and it’s very resilient and green, don’t need to treat with weed killer or pesticides, and it requires way less water in droughts. I’ve tried to use a few lawn cutting services in the past, but even when I tell them my height preference they still scalp it because they’re “trying to make it even with the neighborhood.” 😑
I'll bet if you go get tested for allergies you'll have more than hay fever. I was allergic to almost everything under the sun when I got tested. I took allergy immunotherapy shots for 5 years and am almost symptom free except on days when people without allergies are having respiratory problems. I gave the shots to myself one in each arm as often as 3 times a week when starting a new serum vile, then it tapered down to twice and then once a week for a specific amount of time. Then back up to three times a week when starting another new vial of a stronger serum and repeat the schedule. It really worked for me, if you have allergy problems bad enough that you have to wear a mask or take allergy mess before you start mowing, this immunotherapy may be something for you to look into.i had to dose up with Ned's before I could get on the mower, I don't need to do that at all now.
Not a professional just a homeowner the other day I ended up mowing three large homes, but I always ask never know when someone has just had their yard sprayed or seeded as some other people have mentioned I also don't want to hurt anyone's feelings so I always ask now when my neighbors can't mow due to illness or money I call them and ask would they like me to do it sometimes they stop by and ask if I can I do it for them. the same with my snowblower. Lately my new neighbors have been from Bosnia and turkey and they have been very grateful when I could help them out I get free vegetables and pastries they know I'm watching out for them and their kids and I get invited to BBQs Etc. It's really cool because I get to learn about their cultures and they know that they have been welcomed to The neighborhood I never charged but if they want to give me some gas I don't turn them down cuz I know it makes them feel better. I always make sure if one of my neighbors goes on vacation that their lawn is taken care of the day before they come back that way they can come home and relax. I guess maybe I should turn it into a business but I like not being required to do the yards. Our only kids are our German Shepherds but now we are being adopted by multiple youngsters. it is wonderful to see the neighborhood turn young again and it will be nice to know as I get too old to do this that may be one of those youngsters will help us out. I can testify that it's a great way to meet your neighbors. Best wishes Simon.
simon kenton * Thank you, sir. 😊 Pretty sure wherever you live it is also great! I 💜 my city too much to leave it... the city earns $1 billion a year off of tourism alone (pre-virus) so we’ve not had any real estate tax increase in a decade, we have awesome schools, suburban feel... tourists stay there by the beach and don’t bother us. It’s a win-win. 😉 Have a great week.
My husband and I bought our first house last May but didn't move in until July while we did some updates and waited out our apartment lease. If someone mowed my lawn for free I would have never complained! 😂 I think this is an excellent gesture and hopefully inspires more to pay it forward and do acts and services of kindness ❤
My neighbor was trying to cut our grass but we had to stop him because we had just thrown out seed and was trying to let the grass spread and fill in the dead spots
yeah i put seed down this year same issue... unfortunately my neighbor did the same. the grass still took root and filled in nicely but it was NOT ready for that first mow. we both laughed it off and i even filled in some bare spots in his lawn with leftover seed.
i know almost 95% of you people didn't go to youtube and searched "I Mowed A Complete Stranger's Overgrown Yard Without Permission (It Was Oddly Satisfying)"
My dissertation for a PHD in wildlife covered the topic of letting the grass grow for a year and the affects on wildlife/environment. This favor would have destroyed my lives work basically lmao
A few years back a neighbor who lived alone died . After the stuff was moved out house sat abandoned. Until its papers ended on the “court steps” to the highest bidder. It took maybe 2 years for that. During that time myself and few other would at least mow the yard to make it looked like it wasn’t abandoned.
@@justincasey_grabbederpussy6756 No, a 12 pack. He got home and saw I cut it and then went to the store down the road and got bought it for me. We stayed up all night drinking and he played the guitar and singing for a few of us. He plays a lot of old country music. Good times.
Suggestion for all those other peeps with mowers at home: Take half deck width passes when the grass is that long. Stops you from having to do the lift and re-mow action he was doing. Yes, it takes slightly longer but your mow will be cleaner, keeps the blade speed up for a cleaner grass blade cut, grass will be healthier.
@[Redacted] Semi true. The HP and torque of electric motors is quickly starting to outperform gas motors. So this issue isn't really a problem. Second, I learned the "half of a pass" technique while mowing with my gas mower. The point of the technique is to save your grass. Faster blade speed = cleaner cuts. Clean cuts damage the grass less and doesn't leave clumps of grass behind.
[Redacted] With that much grass, the deck of a mulching mower will be filled so quickly that the mower doesn’t have a chance to chop the clippings and drop them back to the lawn. Better case scenario, it is hard to push the mower forward for have a huge clump under; worst case scenario, the gas motor stalls, or the electric motor overheats
I’m sure most states have their respective laws for trespassing. In Texas, passing through a locked gate or over a fence is enough, posted signs or not.
When I lived in snow country I used to "sneak" over to the two houses with single senior women living there and shovel their snow. One of them asked me if it was me on a summer day, totally out of the blue. I said it must be Santa's little helpers and gave her a little wink. She was an awesome neighbor.
