Pine Cones are everywhere in the Sierra Nevada foothills where we live. We use them in our wood stoves as kindling, but I've never really stopped to think about what they really are, what their purpose is or why they're so dang sharp. Today, I learned more than any one person should about the common Pine Cone. Turns out they're actually very interesting.

Our channel is amazing. It's true because I wrote this statement and I also make the videos. The channel is all about ditching the comforts of home for adventure, travel, outdoors, and life lived in whatever way suites you best. We (my wife and 3 kids) sold everything we owned a while back to travel full-time in a small travel trailer. After that we moved back into a regular home to find more adventures in new ways.

I noticed this, when I put open pine cones into my aquarium. After a couple of days, they absorbed the water, closed, and sank. Never knew that before 😊🌲🍦

heres some interesting facts about pinecones that ive only recently found out, if you hold it pointy side up and count the spirals going to the left there will be 8 then if you count the spirals going right there will be 13 then if you count two of the rows starting from the bottom when you reach the middle stem on top youll be at 21, so just like most other things in nature the fibonacci sequence is visible, it blew my mind when i figured this out......1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34,55,89,144,233,377,600

Also, you can make a very tasty and healthy syrup out of them if you harvest the young red-ish cones, it's something that's done only in parts of Romania from what I know, the syrup can help with sore throats and colds being high in vitamin C.

Pine cones have lots of syrup sap on them. Even some have some white stuff on it whatever it os & parts are shiny sap.

Does anybody ever realize that pine trees are the only trees that stay green during the winter time The pine tree is so underestimated not appreciated I realized that as a little boy I just came to share that since nobody talks about it

You can make wreaths with them. Paint them and hot glue them to make anything.

I just got educated. thank you. this morning I noticed hundreds of little cones showing on the tree's and became curious cause I haven't noticed them on the ground for a long while. Some years we have had thousands around us and others not. now i know why and the seeds? i always wonder what those cute little whirly things were. now i know. thank you once again.

Never knew those things I threw in the air as a kid were the pinecone seeds. My dad told me they are called helicopters because of how they fall like that in the air. I never thought much of a pinecone. And I have em everywhere where I live in Washington state. I also found out from a video you can eat the seeds. Im gonna check this out next time I see a pinecone.

Most people don’t know that pine cones have cash value. You get a bag of dry pine cones from the forest, and then toss them into a kettle of melted wax. It doesn’t matter which kind. Then you pull the pine cones out, and let them cool. That’s a pile of fire starters. I suppose they’d be worth about ten dollars a dozen. The nice thing is that they’re waterproof.

Hey I am here looking for information on the tree of life and the fruit from this ancient tree. Legend has it if you eat the fruit from the tree of life that looks like a pine cone you will gain immortality. Gilgemesh or Noah from the ark story went in search of this tree and is mentioned in the bible and other cultures around the world. Do you have any info you could offer?

So i went up close to a pine tree and there were two pinecones so beautifully opened, and so i hurried up to get to then and i quickly graved a hold of them and OMG this were so thorny/sharp it was painful, but i could let go because there were some people watching like ‘why is that guy reaching out for those pinecones’ and so i didn’t want them to know that i was in pain LOL 🤣😂🤣😂😭(pain)

The ones you had open up seed fallen out .we found one in nZ as big as rugby ball any ideas what it is.yes hence reason it oprned up in front of fire dropped seeds.strp dad plsnted it.would tweezers workwe got it in 1983-4then in 1993,-4it let its seeds out.ten xesrs.

I have never given much thought to a pine cone except to use them as a fire starter and worrying they might fall on my head during a windy day. Very educational. Great Information!

You can actually eat this when it is still on the trees and gets a red/brown color. You will need to remove them from the cone and put all in a pot with water, boil it for 30 min or so. You can do in the instant pot as well.

When they are still full of seed you can throw them into areas where the ground is bare. You will spread pine seed all over the place as the cone flys through the air. If you give the cones plenty of arc you can plant a small forest just by chucking a few cones.

We just visited Tallahassee and my 6 year old picked up a fallen pine cone and it was completely open, about an hour later of driving, he notice part of pine cone was closed and I honestly did not know the reason why so we went researching and found this video. We enjoyed it. Now we both know why. Lol

When I was growing up in Bellevue, Wa. I would practice catching fly balls by standing under a Douglas fir and catch the cones that squirrels would drop off the tree.

I gathered pinecones at my grandparents grave and going to decorate with my granddaughter!! Her great great grandparents! She is 10 so these pinecones fell just in time for her to decorate. No coincidence. God is always nearby. 9.12.21
