The Trogly's Guitar Show You had the backplate on backwards. That’s why the holes didn’t match up. Those other holes are to match up on your spring claw tension screws. You should find it matches up once you turn it around.
don't dig the satin finish though on this one, on any guitar actually, to me it just looks cheap. Not everyone likes a metallic or simple solid finish either I guess. Rececntly saw a Jackson Soloist in that purple metallic finish, whick looks fantastic.
Yeah if ya homosexual or something! I agree with max on this one, the bright iridescent pink and green is iconic of that kinda era, as well as a timelessness and tackyness that is cool, this is just tacky and fucking gay, period.
@@randymarsh7898 I would never tell anyone to buy a Gibson, but paying anything more then 500$ for a guitar with those 1 dollar pots and a cheep tremolo is ridicules. When a 340$ Harley Benton can have stainless steel frets and a better tremolo, they need to up their game.
The guitar tech back in my old GC days used to say Schecter was his favorite brand right out of the box. Because there was usually nothing he had to do to them. Gibson on the other hand usually required a complete set up from start to finish. That was 10+ years ago and I know Gibson has somewhat stepped up their game recently.
Just so you know when dealing with EMG pickups the color of the font will tell you what kind of pick up it is. So silver is ceramic emg. Gold emg is alnico. Copper letter is coil split.
You had the backplate on backwards. That’s why the holes didn’t match up. Those other holes are to match up on your spring claw tension screws. You should find it matches up once you turn it around.
Awesome to see a Schecter on here. Schecter is hands down my favorite brand and as much as I appreciate Gibsons and Fender, it would be great to see a little more love given to these guitars on this channel. Great video, keep up the good work.
As a bass player using Schecter basses for the last 15+ years, I will say I am a big fan of theirs. For overseas instruments, and for the price I think you will have a hard time finding better quality of build and components. The biggest thing I am always impressed on is the set up they do on all of their instruments. They are usually right on the money, or need very minor adjustments from being shipped. Compared to instruments costing 2-3x the price that have terrible set ups, that is saying a LOT!
Schecter guitars is a fine brand name. I first heard about them in the late 1970s or maybe early 1980s. They made replacement parts that were getting popular for folks fixing Fenders. And - then - Pete Townshend chose to replace his tried and true Les Pauls on the road with Telecaster style Schecters. Even though I'm not a real guitar player, that spoke volumes to me and my brother's fellow guitar playing buffs. It seems that after about 15 years or so, the brand name kind of quieted down by the late 1990s (to me anyways). It's nice to see that they're still around and sounding fine. Thanks.
I've been a made-in-USA guitar snob for decades, but Schecter's bang for the buck and QC are fantastic. I found a great deal on a used Hellraiser Hybrid last year and I would not hesitate to buy another Schecter.
The Schecters in the $800-1000 price range are very solid. I work part-time in a guitar shop, and we've never had an issues with any of them. I've always had a secret love with the Avenger shape. This Banshee with a Hipshot, and ditch the stripes...it'll be 💯
@@TroyShahanMusic it’s been a solid guitar for the the few years that I’ve owned. The only problem I’ve ever had with it was a couple of nights ago one of the locking tuners jammed up on me but I got it fixed quickly. I’ve only put locking tuners on it, nothing else to miss with really. I’ve been thinking about putting some graph tech saddles but it’s really only for aesthetics reasons since I don’t break strings.
It’s not exactly a floyd rose Special, it’s the schecter exclusive floyd rose special hot rod. Basically it’s a special with the parts that usually end up troublesome do to it being made out of zinc upgraded to stainless steel + a push-in arm. The baseplate on all specials is steel, same as the higher end ones.
I'm really glad that you are doing other guitar brand on your channel. Schecter makes amazing instruments and this variation appeals to other audiences. Keep it up!
I've always been a huge huge shecter fan. Every single bass and guitar I've played of theirs has been perfectly factory set up, free of defects and looking hella slick.
Austin! You gotta check out the Kiesel guitars! Very high quality, high value, very customizable American made guitars. Jeff Kiesel is a cool dude, I’d bet he’d send you a demo.
I agree. I have 2 older Carvin models, a 1984 V220T and a 1996 DC127, and I just got a Kiesel Type X. Great guitars. Trogly should compare a Kiesel Cali to a Les Paul.
Just picked up a Reaper 6 fr-s like 2 days ago. I'd never purchased a guitar that retailed for over $1k before this, and now I understand why it costs that much. It is BY FAR the most comfortable guitar I have ever played, the tone from the stock pup is great, the setup is perfect, and the things you can do with a sustainiac and a floyd rose are freaking amazing. I never really considered a Schecter guitar before this, but I am now definitely a fan and future customer.
Coming back to this after a couple years. I’m starting to hope trogly will start a collect with esp-ltd/Jackson/schecter/Ibanez and any other over the seas guitar makers. They always have some cool stuff that’s a bit cheaper than the American guitars. And I think it would be fun to learn some history and cool crazy guitars from them that trogly could find.
Great job with this review! I originally said that I wasn't a fan of the new format, and maybe it was just the first one. Much more fan now, as this review seemed much more of the old review pace. I'm converted to the new style of unboxing, review and ship in the same episode. Keep up the nice work! Love the channel!
I have a Schecter Banshee Extreme HSS hardtail and it's a great guitar. It too came factory set up really well. A little over half the price of this one. Definitely a brand worth checking out.
Hey Austin, at the 12:17 mark you said the screws were drilled crooked but I think you might’ve had the back plate on backwards. Usually those holes would be facing the other way so you can adjust spring tension without having to remove the plate entirely. Big fan and love the videos! :)
I have a Schecter S1 Elite and love that guitar! When I bought it I bought it off a friend. I played it once and thought it felt great. When it came time to buy it I thought it was a C1, like a Super Strat with a set Gibson neck. The S1 is more like a Gibson Les Paul double cutaway. I did change the speed knobs to Tele style knobs in the smoky chrome. I moved the strap button to the back where you would find on an SG. I'm changing the pots to individual coil taps (the tone knob taps both at the same time as stock) with a Shadow killpot on the tone. The stock Duncan Designed pickups are great if you take the time to adjust the pickup height and screw height. It's a bit beefier than a SG and not as beefy as Les Paul. Seriously the Diamond Series can be great guitars.
EMG uses different colored logos to help identify the magnets within the pickup; they are normally black, silver, gold, and bronze, but I’m not too educated beyond that point. In addition, the hot rod special is a modded special bridge with a pop-in bar, stainless steel hardware, and modded saddles, which basically makes the hot rod equivalent to a 1000 series, maybe even a bit better tbh.
Hi, Austin! I bought 2 Schecter Hellraisers a couple of years ago. They came all the way to Brazil and they were still in tune. It's amazing!! Cheers!!
Love Schecter axes... not a shredder but they play and feel great! I changed out my.pups to Bill Lawrence rails and love the sound!!! Gr8 review format Austin!!! Really like it!
The differance between the regular floyd rose special and the one Schecter uses is the crome parts. The chrome parts are made of stronger materials so they do not strip out during adjustments. The original non chrome parts were made of a very soft metal and they were prone to stripping (even on the first use).
I have purchased many guitars in my life and have always overlooked Schecters. I started playing some Metallica and decided to get a more metal like guitar in my herd. After a lot of research and comparison, I decided on getting a Schecter and I was not disappointed. My first Schecter was a Synyster Custom S and I was so impressed with it that I caught a Reaper 6 FR on sale and got one of those. I have several Gibsons, Fenders, Gretsch, Ibanez and Epiphones that I love also, but things like the carbon fiber rods in the ebony necks, with a real Floyd Rose Trem 1500 that is a 1000 with updated non-rusting adjusment nuts and screws. The frets are perfect! well dressed and polished. You get a LOT of guitar for the money!
Havent bought a guitar in a few years, FINALLY STOPPED AFTER 30 YEARS, but if I di I will find your reviews. I wish I had this quality of review way back when. As for this guitar it reminds me of a Nuno N24 that I used to have. Its the headstock I think. But I like the guitar and even the color.
I found your channel via a comment someone made on another guitar related channel. I was looking at a demo of the 2020 inspired by Gibson Epiphones and someone mentioned you hoping they did not have as bad luck as you :).
I have two Schecters: an E-1 FR S Special Edition (Explorer-style with a Floyd and Sustainiac in trans purple burst with a flame maple top) and a Sun Valley Super Shredder (neon green Super Strat with a Floyd and Sustainiac). I love them! That said, I got the SVSS used, but the E-1 I bought new came with the worst factory setup I've ever had. The Floyd was about 5º out of parallel with the body (should be straight), the bridge height was stupid high, and the neck didn't have the truss rod adjusted (but it was dead nuts in tune!!!). I spent about 4 hours getting it somewhere close to playable.
the Schecter omen extreme 6 is a great beginner's guitar for the $400 price range. The used ones can be had from $250 at some places to $300 and reverb has some reverse burst omens
Schecter was contracted to make the Prince "Cloud" guitars that were only sold through New Power Generation club and one tour. From the Schecter website: We truly appreciate your interest in Prince and his Schecter Guitars. Unfortunately, we have never publicly sold guitars that we made for Prince. He has always custom ordered them from us exclusively for his own use. Only one time during the "Hit and Run Tour" did he have Schecter create a production run of guitars that he sold exclusively at his shows. This was the one and only time this was done and was with the “Cloud" style guitar. All guitars shown on our website are purely to commemorate the works that we created for him. We have always respected his wishes to not recreate the guitars and resell them, and we will continue to do so. We thank you and appreciate your understanding.
The cool thing about the truss rod "thumb" wheel. It actually was used first by Eddie Van Halen way back in the 90s when Earny Ball made the Music Man for Eddie. I think it was one of Eddies ideas. Don't quote me on that though. Shoot the neck was modeled after his 5150 red white and black fake Kramer. Around the 3rd fret side on the low E there was a groove worn by Eddies thumb. Those necks were digitally made by Earny Ball even. All the Wolfgangs have them. So does all the EVH line up except the $20,000.00 replicas that Fender made. They also have a fixed bridge line also with thumb screws like the Floyd Rose models. Way back when I first started playing in about 88 or 89. I accidentally ran into a Strat shaped WarMoth unfinished neck. Well I did put the Murphy's oil soap floor wood stuff on it. I bolted that thing on everything even sanded off the few necks that really felt good. Those necks are unfinished. The USA made ones now are I think. And the 5150 ones made in Mexico I think they are also. You should one of the EVH ones. It doesn't have to be the $4,000 one either even the $499. Ones feel amazing. Great shows by the way.
Love the show and love the purple Schecter guitar. My son wanted a guitar for his birthday so we got him one. He then asked me to take lessons with him. I have never played before but always wanted to, so I thought why not, some great father and son bonding time. I have a very cheap guitar but had a lot of fun on our lessons. I am now wanting a nicer one, but nothing to break the bank, I love Gibsons, but that is way out of what I wanted to spend. What would you suggest? Keep up the awesome work. I love your channel.
You finally bought a real guitar. Wow. Now you can see what quality looks like. My first first was a Schecter and I've been disappointed every guitar since. Schecter guitars are the best quality, best value, best sounding guitars on the market. You won't have all the setup issues, fret problems etc with that guitar.
Been playing guitar for 30+ years. Always liked framus, fender and prs.... had the chance to play a schecter about a year ago.... now I own 3 of them and just ordered a silver mountain 8 string schecter. One of the best guitars nowadays. Sounds and plays way better than almost all my other guitars (Gibson, Dean, bc rich, even fender ). My framus and prs are better sounding. But wow. What an amazing guitars are schecter. Great video buddy.
I heard schecter has amazing quality, I've only ever played heavily used ones and they were some cheap diamond series. They were players. Every thing had a player friendly function.
For the money, Schecter is hard to beat. Craftsmanship has always been really good on models I’ve owned. My schecter E1-FRS is one of the fastest guitars I own. It’s up there with my Japan ESP. And the build quality is stellar. I own 4 Gibson Les Pauls (2 custom shop), and my Schecter sits proudly amongst them. For a beginner or intermediate guitar player, Schecter has really awesome guitars at all price points. I would consider a lot of them as “pro use” guitars easily.
Schecter hot rod models for the Floyd's have the push in trem instead of the screw on style. The adjustment screws are also chrome titanium rather then black oxidized steel.
I think that truss rod adjustment wheel is a Music Man innovation -- or at least that's the first place I saw it. I've had my Stingray bass since '03, and it features a wheel like that.
YO Trogman are you ever going to review any guitars that are new brands not just new guitars. I would really like to see that on your show 😎 thank you 💗 ps review some ones under the $300 price too 😀
You upload videos so quickly I can barely keep up with you lol! Question: have you ever made an unboxing video of a left-handed guitar? As a lefty myself I want some representation for the community lol
I used to ignore and dismiss Schecters as just ok, mediocre. Then, about five years ago I played a friend's. And then another. And another. I now am a very happy owner of a Schecter JL - 7. The Jeff Loomis signature 7 string, his signature Seymour Duncan pickups, from his last year as a Schecter signature artist, as he has moved over to the Charvel now. I have been building handmade, custom guitars and basses for about 25 years now, and can build myself, really, just about anything I would want to play. But, this guitar was given to me as a gift by a family friend, and I really enjoy playing it so much that I don't see myself getting rid of it anytime soon. They really do make consistently good quality instruments, far above average quality that's for sure, they have good to great components, the raw materials, as far as the woods they use, the fret wire they use, is as good or better than you could expect in the price range that you're paying for thee instruments. They feel great, they sound great. But that's just my opinion. One thing I can tell you with confidence, is that if you bought this guitar and it has a jack issue, or any issue, they are great people to work with, and they definitely do seem to care about the instruments they sell, care about the customer experience, and care about the satisfaction of the customer. I have heard a lot of complaints about a lot of guitar and bass building companies over many years, and there being a lack of proper customer relations, or poor customer service. In some cases an unwillingness to resolve an issue that, in my view, should be taken care of by the builder. But again just my opinion.
Schecters quality to price ratio is unparalleled. I have an Omen Extreme 6 that was going to be a project guitar but turned into my number 1 passive guitar. I added a jb/59 set with lots of options etc. But the stck pickups I saved cause for stock pups they are excellent. Anyways my next humbucker equipt guitar will be a Schecter C1 elite probably. I've had the omen extreme for about 5 years and I've played it at least 5 hours a week minimum since I got it and it's still in excellent condition. Again they are excellent guitars. And again active pickups are fucking wonderful of your not a jackass and take the time to get the most out of them. My fishman fluency modern 7's have become favorite pickups. I still like passives but if I could only use one set on all my guitars for the rest of my life it would likely be fishman fluence moderns. People get actives and don't take the time to set the guitar up for the actives and try different String gauges/tunings to find the ideal set up. There's a reason so many great guitar players are going to fishman and loving them. Just like there's a reason morons get Fishmans and don't like them but don't acknowledge it's their poor playing and setup/other gear that makes them sound like shit. Pretty much ever guitar, pedal, and amp out there can sound good if your willing to learn how to get the most out of it. And as is the case with Fishmans there's likely a huge payoff in taking the time to figure out how to get the most out of it rather than playing it once and writing it off cause it magically didn't work perfectly right away. Anyways I really don't like bad guitar players pretending their inability to get a good sound out of something is really just their "preference" for something else. It's not the gear you don't like, it's your inability to make it sound good that you don't like.
Despite it missing a string (from my view) that is a beautiful axe. Checks all my other boxes- Reverse headstock Ebony fretboard (hnnnng) EMG pickups; if you don't like EMGs try them at 18 volts- they are so much better @ 18v. Manufacturers really need to start shipping them with 18 volts because they suck at 9 If you have a floyd rose guitar you owe it to yourself to install a tremol-no. They are great.
Seems weird to have an episode where you don't need to mention tooling marks all over the fretboard. I'd like to see more Schecters in the future. Great video!
Not chrome, stainless on the FR bolts, and the allen bolt doesn't "lock in" the arm, it adjusts the friction so you can have it tight, and stay where you put it, or loose, and it will swing.
I love all your videos. Such a great guy. And an ohio guy. And I'm just in toledo. So I'm not far away either. Keep up the good work. And look to do business with you on getting another guitar.
Schecter makes some good stuff. A couple months ago I bought myself a C-1 FR-S SLS Elite in the Antique Fade Burst. Now, I'm not a shredder by any means but I just had to! Yeah, with the FR and the Sustainiac, it's a bit crazy. First Floyd Rose...kind of did that on purpose just because I wanted to see what it was all about and maybe learn a thing or two. Changing strings isn't too bad with a few hints as long as you're not changing the string gauge! Fit and finish was awesome and digging the stainless steel frets. You'd love the back of the neck on this beast! But man, if they'd have had it in purple, that would have been insane! Enjoyed the review
I dig the SS racing stripes, not a girly guitar. Keep up the cool Paul, Strat, Rg, and coolness. And also looking to get one of those rad guitar stands from Gibson.
the schecter's have never really appealed to me...until now....that is definitely a nice guitar and I would finally buy one after 20 years of not being a fan. The purple pickups are perfect for this precise puppy....putting green ones in it would seem to be making a mockery of it, rather that showcasing its beauty.
This would be much better if it came with a 'proper' FR (think 1000 etc)-personally speaking , that FR kills it for me. You & your family stay safe trogly ;)
Yeah. I don't think they made it to beat the decades, I guess it's something to look cool now. Looks like a muscle car. Yamaha did something alike with the revstars some time ago, but it was more subtle.
Yes i get the racing stripes but with that wood looking incredible, don't put me those things haha maybe if the finnish was satin and no wood grain it's ok, but look at that wood i'm still amazed
