The first time I saw that truck was out near Utah. I actually thought it was some kind of custom b model Mack. I saw the fella driving it and he made me think of a Santa Claus who was able to still kick my butt! I believe he said it is a 55 but for sure an international. He also told me he built that truck from a junk yard and he did every bit of the work himself! Pretty amazing piece of work. Wasn’t to long later I saw him out around Tennessee. Keep a look out because that fella don’t mind working!
First time viewing a video from this channel. Makes me miss even more my best friend Duke who ran the road with me for 5 1/2 years of his six year life. He died way too young. He was truly the best 😞
Man he is a loyal dog. He's doing what he can and he'll keep doing what he can for you cuz he loves you you treated him well! I love that! Keep being you!!
I’m a breakdown agent for a company out of Kansas, been in it since 1979, you are a refreshing departure from what I normally see , happy trails driver
Thoroughly enjoy your quiet windshield time. 👍 Listening to the whirl of the turbo, hum of the tires- and looking out at the road and countryside. Thank you for sharing. 😃
I loved seeing all those Kansas towns in the middle of the night. It's nice that there are still places where people sleep at night instead of being out getting into trouble.
You have one of the best trucking channels on RU-vid, always enjoy following you along. Take special care of Opie he looks like he's getting arthritis..
Opie is showing signs of dysplasia in his right front leg. My GSD had signs in her hind legs. I've been giving her NOOTIE brand ADVANCED HIP & JOINT SOFT CHEWS from Amazon. I doubled the recommended amount and it was like magic how she responded. She plays with my younger GSD now, climbs the stairs to the deck and jumps into and out of the car. Losing some weight would help him to. My Vet says its best to show some waistline behind their rib cage. He's your buddy. Keep him healthy as he ages.
+ Just had a genius idea 💡 for Opie's up and down the truck ; instead of stairs; a ramp ; four 2' X 3' sliding panels: when closed you carry them like a bag when in use you open them to form a ramp that the dog would just walk it up or down, no more jumping. Glued on fabric for traction. 😊
Kurt thanks you for showing us the old International, what a cool old truck. The first truck I drove in 1980 when I was just learning was a 1959 International, it had a 220 Cummins with a 5 speed main and a 3 speed browny. The seat was spring ride, when you hit a bump the springs would compress then try to eject you out through the cab. I will never forget that old truck, and the hood on it seemed like it was 50 feet long.
Opie is so beautiful. Glad you treat him like a king he deserves every bit of it. I’ve had several dogs throughout my life and one of the favorite ones was a German shepherd. Happy trails you two.
Thanks for the ride along. Glad your CB is working.... Hope Opie is feeling better. Safe travels & 🙏✌️❤️ to you both & the family & other critters. Pam
i really enjoyed the part of the vid where u and opie were enjoying the sunsun on America's great plains. you have a great buddy in opie and he loves you very much. drive safe.😊
Living in New England, it is just a dream to think of sun and warmth. I love your channel for calming and relaxing videos. I'm not a trucker, dream of it sometimes. You channel helps so much.
Hi Mr. Schmidt, As always just watching your videos and seeing how you enjoy everything you do on the road while you´re driving and videoing, greetings from Dolores Hidalgo Guanajuato México.
My family had a hard freeze January 15 that lasted a week. Now the crocuses are coming up. Hope they can make it to April without another freeze. You and Opie have safe travels.
I've driven 55 Brockway and the last one I drove was a 88 mack cabover before I started driving garbage truck and trailer it was a 2010 Pete great video keep up the good work God bless from GA stay safe
I have a 1973 long nose Kenworth (dump truck/pup/belly dump/and on the weekends I hauled a walking floor trailer hauling peat moss from Canada to Oregon). I have since converted her to haul my LQ Horsetrailer. There is something special about these old girls loping down the road taking care of us. She still purrs;). Be safe and Love your truck! Classic at her best!
I enjoy seeing that old metal on the highways and byways. Didn't happen often enough in years past, certainly not at all nowadays, retirement does that to me. For a while I drove an International 4300, might have been 1972 model, don't recall but it pulled pretty good with a 350 Cummins and a ten speed. Your W900 is a really decent semi, I do admire it and the way it's driven. Thanks for the really swell drive through mostly rural Kansas. Liked that a lot. Be well.
🍭SWEET🍭Wow! Thanks for sharing that old International rig. I’m sure my dad worked on ones like that. He was a diesel mechanic for United Van Lines out of Riverside California. I remember him complaining about working on those “dog gone Internationals”!! LOL😂 He was a Mack/Peterbilt man. His boss had a few Internationals in his fleet. This was back in the 50’s, 60’s. He retired in 1976. God Bless🙏🏼💖👍🏻🌞
I’m late again, nice to see you guys together, opie looks like he is still hurting, give him a hug for all of us we feel like we know him to,so keep our adventure going, be safe
Hi Kurt & Opie, I guess the morning commuters are always in a hurry as they probably hit the snooze button one too many times and are running late. 😎🇬🇧
Really good video! I retired in 2015 from 38 years cross country…3 time owner operator until I finally woke up the third time to the fact I could make a really good living driving for a company and not have all the financial headaches. Been a long time since I was able to gander down a long hood, so, I thank you! Safe travels my friend and God bless! ~Jim in Houston,Texas~
I’ve been meaning to comment for a while… Kurt you are BY far the BEST manual shifting driver on your tube … no one better sir Safe travels Roland in NY
I remember when i took my last load to Janesville,WI to the GM plant and seeing the assembly workers crying cause there plant was closing.I grew close to these people when i delivered there engines and transfer cases...just appreciate on what u have today cause theres no guarantee on where ur life will go..
Nice recovery Kurt. The Warden better be the highlight of your day, week, month, year and life. You qualified by saying the international was your highlight of the day on the road.
I think unless you're from that part of the country you really can't see the sheer beauty of the plains. Oh, it's really not as flat as people think. Great presentation.
FYI-in the Truck Paper from Dec. 22 2023 there was an ad for a 1954 International 405-Cummins power-4speed main with a 4 speed aux-4.63 rears. He did adapt air leaf to it. It's down there in Iowa. Gorgeous ol girl.
Hello 👋 Hey HI and Howdy Kurt , i seen that truck the other day. But it was headed in opposite direction... very super coool 😎 indeed... Cleveland Tenn Waivin a Hand 🖐 in Union Mississip...
You may have seen this truck on the road. I was in El Paso in the back row, Pete's and KW's. There was a 50's KW needle nose with 160" sleeper. Color, all white. He had a blue tarp under the front of the truck and a wheelbarrow beside it. Went down to see what's up and could I lend a hand. He was doing a bottom end rebuild in the parking lot, a 400 Cummins. Moved the parts in the wheelbarrow and the tarp for excess oil dripping catcher. Times have changed, there are very few left. I had a 98 W900 72" sleeper,500hp Detroit and 18 spd. pulled lowbed. Best truck I ever owned, and yes I had a 379 6nz.
You can get help for Opie and his arthritis thru your vet. I think it was called Rimadyl and about a buck a pill thru my vet. Helped my 130lb. Dobie/Rottweiler alot.
I remember the Sinclair stations were everywhere. The big green dinosaur out front. I thought they were all gone. That Corn binder was a mid 50s to mid 60s.
Yum... That fried pie looks really good. We don't have places that sell those here in central Oregon. Opie really is a handsome boy. It's amazing that even though dogs can't talk, they say a lot just by the expression on their face and the look in their eyes. That's a neat little rest area that you pulled over at. Yeah that's a cool old cornbinder. Pretty sure you are right that there is some crusty old timer drivin that beast. It would be funny if one of the current generation of "drivers" showed up for their first day on the job and the boss walked them out to that thing and handed them the keys... Oh, by the way, there's no power steering, no a/c, no computer, and you'll notice that there is an extra shift lever LOL....
Have always heard if fog rises rain in three days. If it falls nothing will come. Also didn’t know they would sell one fried pie, I usually end up with a dozen! But the coconut, chocolate, and pecan all good choices.
That fried apple pie looked delicious. How many did you buy? That was a cool looking old International. Thanks for identifying the towns and cities that you travel thru. I have been thru many of them. Safe travels. 😊
im 62 now and had a german shepard when i was 15 like opie now i have a 9 year old b1 male goldendoodle standard.hes a big old baby but strong and fast for his age hes 70 percent poodle and rest golden retriever.he is so gentle and nice till you let him out on cable unwatched he turns into the loudest dog i have ever heard he barks so loud his voice box is starting to sound like a wolf.if i rap on walls he stops for a few minutes then starts it again lol
The reason the morning commute is crazier then evening because American people are always running late for work. A Japanese fellow told me that long ago. I tend to believe that as well. Enjoy your videos and the company you get from the dog. Im long retired from the road, 1993 and had a small dog with me a couple times. The company of a dog is the best therapy. Mans best friend. That international that you seen was nice but not quite as old as you speculated. I have some black and white photos of a couple dad drove right after WWII. Be safe out there and hope your dog treats you well.
First visits to the channel, Love your rig, love your dog, That truck at 18:55 is quite the looker for sure, even the classics still have to work ya know? Or that was a custom order build, either way it is a very cool and unique rig for sure.
