Hi Scott, you have to keep the trigger pulled in constantly if you try and pull the trigger for each screw the rpm’s are not high enough which causes misfires. Also you need to use good screw strips, cheap ones have thinner plastic which also causes misfires. Hope this helps.

I had the same issue with mine, what I found was set it to the next size screw up from the one you are using then adjust the depth to as deep as it will go and works like a dream and finishes the screw about 2mm under the surface. I've had similar issues with with different tools. My dewalt 20v framing nailer will sink its max diameter nail all day. But the min diameter nails(like paslode nails) misfire all the damn time. Those skinny paslode nails are engineered to be fired at a much higher velocity I think.

There's nothing more annoying than having to hand-screw something together ru-vid.comUgkx1McjgiqTNcTjrhvRvJWcrk5bzTeQW-Wn except for the pain in your wrist that is. This addition to my tool kit is great and I can get a lot done without all the pain and annoyance. The battery last's a long time and I have yet to run out of power when doing a small project (granted I am saying small project because I'm no construction worker). The only thing that I wish it had was an LED or pair of LEDs to indicate when it was charging and whether or not the charge was complete (or full).

Hi Scott, I have the same gun (mains powered). and had exaxctly the same problems. I took the whole collated mechanism apart, used some dry PTFE on all the moving parts, stopped using generic colleted screws and started using Senco screws. The difference is night and day, I used to get a jam at least once in every two strips, just drywalled the whole of my brothers extension and didn't suffer any jams. Thoroughly enjoying your channel, keep up the good work and keep safe and sane.

I got the 2500rpm standard style Makita drywall drill, battery with the auto power function, and paired it with the senco system. Gives you the option of normal pouch of screws or auto strips. Got the 2500rpm so I can comfortably drive 3" screws for decks, or put up drywall, cement board, etc. No real complaints, works well, and I love the versatility. The auto power really makes a battery last a looooong time.

You are right about that screwgun being rubbish, I've been boarding for over 20 years and used most of the big brand screwguns (Hilti, Senco, Makita, Dewalt) never had any trouble with any of them and the 110v makita screw gun was awesome but the cordless one was useless even from brand new, always spitting screws and skewing them to the side! I fixed it in the end putting a shorter head and bit off an older version onto it.

A sds is NOT a drill contrary to believe, it is a chisel that is why it has such a unique chuck system, it is designed to have the ability to bounce back and forth while retaining the ability to keep the fluted chisel("drill bit") spinning to clear the material...it also is a mistake putting excessive pressure on the drill because it is not needed it just over heats the chisel the only pressure required is just enough to activate the hammering action, as a tradesman it amazes me how many people do not know this some working with this tool for years....
@billybobjoe198

Impacts are better at putting screws in mostly because the impacting action helps reseat the bit in the fastener. It's really an anti cam out action for screws. It's not like the impact force helping to remove machine fasteners.

Blow the dust out of the head with the air compressor and use a small amount of lanolin of silicon spray but blow it out after you have applied it the dust sticks to the mechanism in the head. I use to have a dealt version of the screw gun. It gets clogged with plasterboard dust/crap so I bought some brake cleaner and gave it a good spray a couple off times a day (when using it all day) after I sprayed it I would also set it on fire to burn anything away. best way to get any unwanted particles gone. obviously I wouldn't do that indoors or with any screws inserted. 👍

Maintenance. That dirty gun needs it. If it still doesn't work after cleaning and lubing, it needs to be serviced like your paslode gas gun. It's like a real gun, they need some TLC for tip top performance. I doubt Makita would be happy to know their screw gun is not performing well enough for you Scott. I've seen other youtube drywall installers using the same makita drywall screwdriver. & they would scrape the grey lead of a pencil and put the dust in the front frame of the drywall gun as dry grease to help is slide better, as those guns are usually used on drywall & plaster dust can jam the mechanism up. Haven't used that trick yet but I do have a Milwaukee drywall screwdriver that works well, but you absolutely need to get the exact size of screw required & its metric where the makita is imperial, so finding the right size of screws that will perform well can be difficult. But my number 1 cause of jam has been because the screw size doesn't match the screw adjustments on the tool. So set the depth to match your screws on the tool & you should be good to go. Also, I have a feeling that for the screwdriver to start screwing well, it needs to start on drywall. If you're going directly into wood, it can't initiate fast enough & it's jam city again. Or at least that's my experience with the Milwaukee. But when it works, it's fabulous

The key to getting the best out of these tools is lubrication. Must be a dry lube we use GT85 spray maybe twice a day its a ptfe spray lube (basicly electrical component cleaner) don't use anything oil based. Also the gates at the front stick thats what causes the screw to kick off to the side usually ( we keep plenty of spares ) . Clean it , lube it all up , change the gate if needed and you'll be golden . I go through one maybe every year , they never same to be the same after you change the brushes on them so i just buy a new one . The makita DCO180Z rotary drywall cutter is a god send for cutting out sockets, switches ,windows etc. i would definitely recommend one. 0:58 not really a ratcheting, but hammering or impact system, it literally has a large spinning mass that hits an anvil when the normal motor torque can't screw the screw in any further. It works with impulse. Like hitting the end of arench when trying to get a nut or bolt off.

PBMS123 Aaah nope. A hammer drill has an "anvil" action. An impact driver has a spinning mass that acts like a ratchet.

I've owned one of those Makita belt fed guns. I found that if you go too fast with it that's when it messes up. Drive one in, give it a second for the motor to wind down and then repeat.

You are the man. I hope one day I can be as knowledgeable about building as you are. And you seem like a cool person.

Why no Insulation? Couple years ago, i replaced a Bathroom and didn't insulate between the walls. I have regretted it every since. Noise travels between walls and you can hear the shower etc.

I have 2 of those guns sitting around somewhere. They constantly jam which means they get thrown to the floor 😂then binned

check the drill bit isn't damaged and make shure the length is adjusted properly. failing that you need to buy better screws, cheap plastic strips are far too soft and they jam the gun.

For drywalling I've used the Makita one and it is terrible. Plus not super versatile. The DeWalt drywall gun and attachment is 100% worth it. It slays all the day long. Also, it can use collated or loose screws. Just my opinion, but I would rather versatility to a single use type of tool!

No plugs with the screws at the start?

I found that when using same string gun, if you spray the track where screw strip slides in with something very greasy (wd40 or better) it works much better. My experience is that due to the track being plastic - it wears off or cuts groves thus snagging or holding the strip while you press the gun, causing screws missaligned.

Take the doors off the end of the front nozzle. I find they jam with dust and knock the screws off centre as you are screwing. Always find those guns work better afterwards.

Use your words. The fourth device is NOT a drill. It IS a "rotary hammer". I burned up two mere hammer-drills because my boss (by phone in another state) kept telling me that 'BrandX' hammer drill was all I needed to drill anchor holes in a concrete slab. I finally insisted he tell me the complete name and model no. and when I went back to Lowes I discovered that it is was the $185 tool, not the $40 tool. Terminology IS everything.

Stupid question.. Have you set the gun to the correct depth for the length of the screw? When I get that problem is because I've forgot to change the depth of the strip twisted in the slot..

Depth might be the wrong wording... Om my 12v Bosch I have a thingies I have to adjust for the length of the screw

Um I use that gun almost daily out the box it's not going to come calibrate it, you have to mess around with the depth of the screw on every job inorder to get it consistent

My dad hax one of them, but the tip was bent, so it would always misfire like yours. Maybe if you get a new tip or try replacing the driver bit.
