the issues people have with rush is; 1) the first few episodes called out the standard format and people took that PERSONALLY. 2) the first few sets didn't really add any new viable strategies, the 2 starter decks combined were the meta for a long time and even now the 2 boss monsters are meta staples. 3) you can't shut down your opponent, you can stall them but there are no Negates, so you are forced to actually play a back and forth game, their are cards which shut down certain decks for a few turns, but they will play a out normally and drawing up to 5 cards a turn makes it easier to find those cards. 4) playing off of 3, they don't have long combo turns, you have combos but they don't go as hard and are generally simpler to learn. 5) different play style to most meta standard format decks, it's more about resource management, recycling and knowing you will most likely need to rebuild after your opponents turn, so adjusting your mindset to grind and push for game. i like rush because; 1) Going second doesn't mean auto-loss even if your opponent draws well. 2) Power creep is happening but not to the point the game is any faster or slower, but is feeling more like fleshing out certain strategies. 3) Each deck has its own strategy, dragons are beat down, Spell-caster is graveyard set-up and draw power, Warrior is stun, Insect is DNA change the deck with monster stealing. Which means you know what type of play style you are against from looking at what they are playing. 4) Even tho each monster type has its own over arching style the archetype makes them play slightly differently. i.e Harpies is control, draw power, recursion and the max monster, Lighting Condor is similar however instead of a max monster it wants to change attributes to lower opponents monster attack.
