The law is very clear for the rights of photography in public space. The example is often used with ‘Google Street-view’. however these rights do not extend to putting one’s feet onto a property or into a business premises to take photographic content without permission . Such permission is at the discretion of the authority for private properties. In this instance you are on the property of the Nation Trust and their representative has politely requested that you do not film him on site… It’s a fair call and with his added advised suggestions for the appropriate and ethical approach to seeking permission. Your approach is a tad dingo…

They don't want a drone flying over "The Mansion" in case it damages precious stained glass windows etc, but if you pay us that problem will disapear. They keep saying our land, our property, all this was donated to the nation (the people of the UK) so in effect it is "Our" property. At one of the other sites the lady in charge suggested that DJE give a percentage of what he would earn from RU-vid to the NT eleviating any type of damage, children and vulnerable people being caught in the video etc. What argument would they have if DJE said it was just a hobby and he would make no money out of his visit, would they say "OK, just crack on" taking pics and video just like the other thousands of visitors.

I have sent an email and they have responded to me and have sent out an updated info to all sites and employees that NT can not stop drone flights over their land if the flight is from public land. They have said that they can not stop flights over the land but would ask the flyer to respect the wishes of the land owner and not infringe on the life of a private person. This is not a legal request but a request of the drone flyer to be aware of the nature of the flight and use common sense and value the properties status....bylaws when in use will be used against anyone using a drone outside of the law.

I have been watching some of these videos to see some of these places I may visit when I come to the Uk but the National Trust is putting me off.

DJE.Really enjoy the aerial footage of these properties. Think I will join the NT to see them in person. I am thinking of getting a drone and been looking at the drone code. I don't really understand the rules on orange SSSI's , FRZ and NOTAMs and when you can fly notwithstanding these items indicated on Drone Assist. I was intrigued as to how you could still fly after the helicopter flew over and I think I saw a small plane at altitude. Maybe someone can help me out here before I make the final decision to buy a drone, or not.
