the chocolate raspberry cake I would give five stars 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟 for the flavor on design I would give it one star 🌟 since it looks like a bird crashed into the cake and died on it with the feathers 🪶 or rather plants that look like feathers 🪶 put all over it lol 😆 . The lemon raspberry cake i would give four stars 🌟 🌟🌟🌟 on the lemon raspberry flavor and three stars 🌟 🌟🌟 for the design as does look off balance but it's hard to see due to all the flowers 💐.
The feather looking stuff on the second cake is pampas grass, it's not considered toxic, but the edges can be sharp, I would not recommend putting it on a cake

You are giving these two businesses too much credit. Two layers of STROFOAM that is just tilted to the side and hidden with fondant...and one single flat tiny layer of cake for 800 bucks. That first cake crumbled so bad that it was literal crumbs on your plate. I've seen you be way harsher on cake that are stunning and beautiful that cost much less. I dont get it.
i do agree that she was honestly rlly forgiving, at the same time it’s easier to expect more from a someone who is known to give more and do good, whereas you don’t expect much from something like a 1 star bakery, its easy to be way less harsh and grateful due to the fact that there wasn’t much to expect anyways
I agree. I think she's letting her feelings get in the way of objective criticism based on the price. I paid so much it should be higher rated... right? That is probably the 'feelings'. Not for me. The higher the price the more I expect.
And not just one square, but the TINIEST square. If that was the bottom layer then it’d be more reasonable, but didn’t she specifically say she ordered a cake to feed 30 people? That cake could maybe feed half that.
Maybe next time you do an “x” star-rated bakery vs a “y” star-rated bakery you let Kevin set them up beside each other without you knowing which is which and you can rate them fairly based on quality. Then Kevin can do a big “reveal” which is which blinded.
But the price factors in to the rating. Part of the rating is the value for money. If you paid $50 for an OK cake you're going to be much happier than if you paid $500.
Problems is an understatement. If I’m paying THAT much for a cake ATLEAST 90% of it should be edible. I don’t care if it’s rice crispies, cake, cookies, whatever. But to get mostly STYROFOAM?! Oh noooooo I’d be BLASTING them.

Yes its a big difference. Especially if ur charged for fondant, and that was a thick layer. Ultimately u dont have to eat it though, its eady to not eat fondant on a cake, usually (i would say always) theres another layer of icing under the fondant, plys icing between layers. You simply dont eat the fondant if u dont like fondant

Lorrie, my wedding cake was a soccer ball with zombie hands coming out of the grass. Then off to the side, there was a bride and groom pigs. When my husband and I cut into the cake, blood was gushing out. It was pretty awesome😂😂. He is a huge soccer fan, and we were both into the show The Walking Dead at the time😂
@@grreeno Everyone at the reception thought it was a cool idea! We are not the type of people into flowers and lacy stuff😂 In fact, we had our reception at a park pavilion, and on our wedding invites, we put to have people dress casual. That they didn’t have to dress up. I wasn’t even in my wedding dress, I wore a sun dress. My husband was in shorts and a T-shirt. Everyone was saying that this was the best reception they had ever been to! And in June, my husband and I will be celebrating our 11th wedding anniversary😃!

have you considered doing a you vs 1 star vs 5 star bakery? kevin picks the design, and you and the other two bakeries make it in your styles. Id love to see your takes on some of these super complex/structural designs!
For the first one, getting fondant when you thought you were getting buttercream is an automatic 2 stars off for me personally. And $600 is what I would personally consider expensive. And to not taste good?! Negative stars 😂
@kt-cn2rq for that price and only having one small edible part is crazy. Wedding cakes are usually expensive because of the amount of servings and of course the wedding tax. But again one small square and 90% Styrofoam is pure insanity. I'd be so upset
OMG! You are my T-Rex armed sister. I have never met anyone with arms as short as mine. If I wear a 3/4 sleeve, it goes all the way to my wrists. The struggle is real!
I think that's why I started off with such a critical review!! I mean for the price, they really raised my expectations! But they 100% should join forces!
My mom did a Topsy tervy cake for my Nieces wedding and a side sheet cake for the second flavor. Her brother started his toast by welcoming everyone to the "birthday party" my Niece had the cake decorated in green and blue with stripes and poka dots. My brother made the top piece with Palmer clay. My mom must have made 2-3 mock up cakes to practice before doing the real one. She had done many cakes before having owned a cake bakery that specialized in wedding cakes for 5 years. But she didn't have much experience with fondant. She did use marshmallow fondant though, much easier and tastyier.😮
At first I thought, how unfair to expect a bakery, rated 1 star, to pull off a topsy turvy cake! As the video went on, I was stunned at the outcome for each order. The ONLY redeeming quality was the dollar store flowers. WOW! You really held it together with your reaction. I would have been dead on the floor or screaming at the top of my lungs!
I think you were more than fair with the reviews. Very expensive disappointment if it was your wedding day. As for Archie… what a sweetheart!!! He wins the 5 stars today ❤⭐
That first cake was absolutely gorgeous. HOWEVER, only the first layer is cake??????? The rest is Styrofoam?????? And they had the nerve to charge over $650 for 1 small square cake???? That's ridiculous. I would be livid. Such a shame because I think it's such a beautiful cake.
Just a quick question. What is the point of inedible cake and fake flowers? It it is not edible, it is not a cake. And how can one be sure that the inedible parts are well-cleaned to be exposed to the edible parts?
I kinda get the inedible cake part. It'd be more difficult and expensive to make it out of something edible. But the fake flowers I definitely agree with. It was hammered into my brain to not decorate food with something you cannot eat. Why are we using plastic flowers and not edible or sugar ones???
Here's my amateur-baker's POV. I would keep the chocolate with raspberry combination for the top cake and make classic vanilla and lemon for the bottom. Only the middle part will be faux cake because I'm not a pro. But a working bakery should be able to make the whole thing edible so no excuses there. Both of the prices were way high given the amount of cake you received. The dollar store flowers I agree with. They don't have to be super fancy, they just have to look good. And yes, because you gave an inage, they should have used a wooden board or just cover it with wood imitating contact paper. But thats just my amateur opinion.
Here's my viewer's POV: Throw both of these disgusting piles of plastic into the trash. Apologize to your audience for your lacking common sense in paying for any such nonsense. Resolve to return to some level of professionalism in the creation of lovely bakery items.

Ha! when you said what you both paid for the first cake I thought wait is that $666 . then I thought I just read too many Good Omens fanfics. and then you put the $666 price on the screen and it was just way too funny to me. So, thanks for that. The inspo cake was beautiful.
Watching this video reminds me that there are fools out there everyday-both customers and so-called bakers. What a ridiculous price for a piece of cake-plus plastic and fake flowers. The standards and common sense in much of this country have sure gone to hell.
It's important to keep in mind that these are WEDDING CAKES, specifically for an entire WEDDING to share😭 No excuses for filling space with inedible materials. I would be so mad if my wedding left guests eating styrofoam.
Ma’am, I cannot. That cake was a hot mess and 2.5 is a lie don’t be so nice. This is a rip off and would’ve destroyed somebody’s wedding. You would never do this to anyone under any circumstances and be OK with it I would love to see you, judge based on what you would do, because then this would’ve got the 1 that it deserved.
My son and daughter had wedding cakes from bakeries in Germany. Both 3 layers , butter creams , fruits, decorations, very tasty, maybe about 200 € enough for a lot of people and 100% edible ❤
I worked in catering and we didn’t cut wedding cakes because they were ordered from someplace other than the caterer. If requested we’d cut a cake, but first trash the fondant.
I get using Styrofoam to add support or extra details, I used Styrofoam when making a Princess castle cake to build it up, but when two out of the three squares are Styrofoam it kinda feels like you're cheated out of Cake. Especially for like 600 and 800 bucks.

Years ago, lil' ol' amateur baker me made a wedding cake, for approx. 35 people. Nothing extravagant, two-tier, vanilla/strawberry/white chocloate filling, a thin fondant layer and decorated with edible plantlife. Caviat: everything had to be, if possible organic. I charged them 300 bucks, including -in home concepting & taste testing -full ingredient list incl. vendors -delivery to the venue We're talking fresh flowers, vines made from both marzipane and white chocolate, flower-shaped fruit slices, roses... and I still think, I overcharged them
They look DRY. I'm out of touch with wedding cake prices. I'd make my own before paying more than $300 for an amazing cake. I hate fondant. I do light buttercream basecoat then colored whipped cream oe merengue icing. I've done 7 layer cakes with no bases in between. Light, fluffy & moist. There is never much left at parties.
They both strike me as girls tea party themed birthday party cakes. Where you're going more for the color and drama than you are wedding, elegant, nicely somewhat adult themed.

As a baker this is painful, something i always secure for my clients is the colours cuz that’s everything!! Decorations and theme everything has to be the same!!
It would seriously be cool if you did some cakes from like Facebook marketplace and from like people that have bakeries out of their home or you know meaning like a small place where you just order online There's some really talented artists out there especially the ones that do cupcakes wow it's insane The stuff on them looks like real freaking flowers just done with buttercream. Some of them do cakes too and don't even think they look good and don't sell them for much and they look freaking amazing much better than one star bakeries.
Every place for standard round 3-tier cake with only pearls on it no flowers is roughly $1,200-$2,500 in my area. 2024 county taxes in Milwaukee sky rocketed and I noticed the cost of everything has more than doubled in price
This is so funny, when I was married, my mother in law recommended this lady for the cake, we make and appointment and she showed up with a photo album, this was way before internet, I wanted something simple, white cake with natural flowers. After I chose the look I asked “how it tastes?” She said “what ever you want: chocolate, vanilla …” “no, no, no I mean I want to know how it tastes” she had to come back with a sample of the cake for me to try, apparently nobody else asked that question before 😂 I mean for me it’s more important the taste than the look, and I really care for the look 🤣

Archie is so bloody cute! 😍 I have a two year old Jack Russell, she's a really picky eater too. If you placed a bowl of fresh chicken in front of her and a bowl of carrots, she would opt for the carrots every time!
I'd love to see what5 star bakers would do with this design!! I'm surprised both bakeries did such bright pinks instead of the neutral pink clearly represented in the photo. And those feathery wheat things on the second cake look like caterpillars!!!
lol my mom made fun of me for my short arms too. She was like why are you all the way in the cabinet, over half your body has disappeared… I was like it’s it the back of the cabinet and I can’t reach 😂
