I need to clarify that the show is OPEN TO ALL. The parking lot is organized a certain way and certain kinds of cars are placed in specific sections (Muscle, JDM, Americana, Exotic, Sports cars, German/Euro cars, etc). But unfortunately, if a car comes in and has peeling paint, rusting, completely lacks care and demands to park next to a whole bunch of pristine builds, exotics, show cars, classics, etc, then I have to politely decline and ask they park at general attendance. The only exceptions to patina'd cars are classics and ratrods. Follow me: IG: @windermerecarscoffee IG: @locking_diff
explanation really isn't necessary. its kind of an obvious thing. I don't even know how someone can drive a 100k car around town, I would be shitting my pants the whole time. Let alone parking near people's beaters and life long dented and neglected pos. They know who they are and should respect other people's rides even if they don't care about their own. Their basic insurance wouldnt even be enough to repair minor damage to cars of that caliber. Anyone bitching is a trouble maker anyway. Don't be jealous because someone has nicer stuff than you, someone always will. Just appreciate being able to see something so nice, some cars at these kind of shows are once in a lifetime rare
@@plap. It SHOULDN’T be necessary for further explication, but these days people don’t get a clue. They want “content” for their burnout channel on TikTok. I wish it was illegal to post exhibitions of speed, drifting, donuts on anything other than privately owned property. Such is life.
Well, I think the clarification indeed seems necessary but it ist still hard to believe for me as the undertone of the video is that the whole thing is more about money and proud of place than about loving cars which is a pity.
Totally understand your frustration. We had a similar occurrence in Columbus Ohio where a venue for a popular local cars and coffee did not allow us to return because of two consecutive weeks of reckless exits. A red Evo lost control and went into on-coming traffic, and one week later a blue Mustang spun out onto a curb. I hope more people see your video and understand that it is a privilege to attend these events.
People forget (or don't care) that 90% of shows are on someone else's property and should be treated with respect. Reckless activity should be prohibited due to principle alone. Imagine you invite people over to your house for dinner/backyard bbq and two assholes run around your house naked with a 40 in their hands. It's the same level of disrespect and obnoxiousness. And don't forget that they put pedestrians, bystanders, and drivers in danger by swinging a 3500 lb brick full of fuel around them.
I know exactly what you’re talking about. I used to go to this C&C with my friend on Saturday mornings and his dad would also come sometimes. We were pretty bummed when it ended because of a couple douchebags who feel like they have something to prove.
we are a newly formed college car club and we’ve already experienced with this in our first couple of official meets. A guy in a lifted Tacoma refused to undergo our sign-in procedure and basically forced himself thru our officers and parked at the meet, saying “I don’t fuck wit yall” and we are somehow snitching by recording his license plate? Anyway, thank you for sharing your thoughts, cheers from bay area!
I have a technique for you to find out : 1. Go to a Dodge dealership 2. Ask to test drive a 392 or higher 3. Turn off all assists 4. First thing when you exit the parking lot, before you've even full left, floor it. You'll quickly understand, after those years of driving sub 200hp FWD (no offense, I don't know honda btw so that might be wrong assumption too) that it's a different world, and while it's not particularly difficult to handle, it's something that requires experience or easing into if you don't have the experience. But kids at the meet just got the car, don't know how to countersteer or anything, go to meets and try to impress by flooring them with the wheels still turned and then they're shocked when the car steps out, they don't know what to do about it and boom. Plus leaving meets is never really straight lines, actually most people that crash do because they think it's just a straight pull, nothing can happen, because that's how FWD or AWD is, but if you got a torquey RWD car even just leaving at an angle and still having the wheel slightly turned can lead to bad result if you can't handle it. Another common mistake is too high wheelspeed, if you've ever been in a really powerful rwd car you know what I mean, spinning wheels is one thing, easily controllable, but if the rear wheels get a lot of speed difference with the actual ground speed it becomes sketchy, which is why you need to modulate the throttle even if your goal is to spin the wheels, and it's not something most unexperienced people expect, they just floor the damn thing, next thing that happens is 120mph wheel speed on a 40mph car and they get suprised when the only thing the rear end wants to do is to go in front lol I know people on the internet like to act all though and say they're beast at driving (not saying that's your case) but I've yet to see anyone IRL that went from FWD or AWD and switched to RWD and didn't get surprised the first time they did an aggressive manoeuver, amongst some people I know there's even one guy that used to track FWD cars and is very fast, I was passenger in his new BMW and he almost spun the thing out in the middle of the road (he caught it too late, but was able to slow it down and straighten it when it was basically at walking speed) because he thought it was fun to step on it on pulling out of lots or on corner exits of slow corners, he had done it successfully a few times and his general driving skills gave him a lot of confidence but he quickly found out that he indeed did not know perfectly how to handle RWD cars yet LOL
"I gotta do a burn out to impress everyone" "I've never done this before, but I know how to turn traction control off, let's start there" "Oh, hey, this car is doing something I've never had it do before! What the hell is happening?!?!? What do I do!?!?!" And there you have it in a nutshell. Those of us that grew up with cars from the 60's and 70s that made horsepower we know you let off the gas and deal with it. Those with newer cars have not been aware of traction/stability control doing work for them on a daily basis keeping them from running into stuff. It's a sudden surprise when the car starts to wind off in a different direction than where they're pointing it. But let's go deeper -- doing stuff like drifting and burn-outs in a public area like the one above is not only rude -- it's dangerous. You don't know who you're going to affect if you lose it. It's not a track condition, in other words -- you're in public. This not the place for this kind of demonstration. You're being rude to the people in the neighborhood and the person hosting the event. Just ... don't do it. You want to embarrass yourself, do it in your own neighborhood on your own time or better yet, in a safe location like a track. I am helping a friend host a weekly event and we have the problem shown above. Everyone wants to leave the event making a statement but most have heard the owner of the establishment (also the guy generously donating his location for the event) tell everyone "don't do a burn-out leaving the show". He now has cameras set up in both directions and people that violate the rule will be purposely not invited back -- and likely will be getting a ticket if things go the way we're planning. The other thing I'd suggest if you have something this popular -- put out the word to some of the people attending the event that you're looking for volunteers to help you run it. As you scale up the event, scale up the volunteers. Be careful who you ask for help. Get the more mature, saner minds to help you in other words, and as your event grows you won't be so overwhelmed. Hope this helps.
@@DFMurray In the event I attended, the "exit" where the crowd gathered was still within private property and there was a sharp 90* turn at the end, so all cars had to slow down before the turn, and after the turn, the cars aren't even visible to the crowd, so the acceleration and show off stopped before the part where it turns to a public road. There was an event were a meet member on the way to the area got stuck in a concrete median and was getting a pickup truck to pull him out(lowered car). People took pictures and made a meme where it shows his car grinding a rail like a skateboard in the meet group chat, lol.
I used to also organize car/coffee events for Porsches and german cars in Malibu back in 2000. I also started with 20 cars, then ended up with 400 and more. Then the A-holes showed up and ruined it for everyone. Burning rubber. crashing , show boating. I bowed out and let a local car dealership take over.....Good thing I did. Because, a year after some show off tried to burn out when leaving and lost control and ran over some people on a side walk....Dealership sued into oblivion......So happy I no longer had a connection to the event.
I have 22 years experience putting on shows, cruise in's, etc. You can't stop all of it. But, let's be honest, a lot of car owners want to show off for the crowd. And the crowd eggs the car owners on. So, in other words...peer pressure. I've seen drivers jeered and heckled because they refuse to do a burnout. As much as car owners need to be reminded of proper decorum, so do the spectators.
As a fellow show organizer, I understand this pain. A way to deter the actions is by promoting more purposeful track builds on flyers, maybe showcasing footage of the cars that attend the events at the track if they have media of it or even compiling crash footage at events in a somewhat mocking way to entertain and educate against it. Those two things help break egos and can even set a standard of behavior for the audience. This approach helped weed out the clout chasers as my own event started to grow so it might work for yours too.
Mate I am an X instructor. I taught people how to drive at the track and advanced road courses. People cannot drive it's that simple. They all want to go out and play Chris Harris. What they don't realize is that if your not doing it all day every day you lose your edge. You grip the wheel too tight to react fast enough and your focus is shit. It's plain stupidity and those of us who are true car fanatics and drivers get cast in the same stone as these tossers. It sucks. The really sad part is they take out others with them.
I agree. It takes a lot of time driving near the limit to get comfortable. And as with anything you need to keep doing it to stay sharp. You don't just pull your performance car out once in a while and immediately take it to the limit.
They only way to learn about a cars limits is to push it to get past them but you’d want to do it in a safe space. People like this just don’t know anything about their cars and ego takes over.
Everyone driving at 6/10ths thinks they are Max Verstappen or Lewis Hamilton. They reck at 7/10ths and have never been on a track with a PRO such as yourself. Riding on the limit in a honda civic on track w a PRO is eye opening and scary.
Hey no worries, i just recognise the shape and don't know about the different models.. I do like French cars though and just bought another Citroën xantia :)
Bahahahaha 😂Take a look a few videos back. This car is a project car that I've been restoring over the past 6 months. It's been running great and I just filmed part 3 with a couple of well known guests critiquing the car. I'll put that out sometime within a week.
I run a group Chitown Exotics car group, we host charity supercar shows in the Chicagoland area, we’ve seen many events come and go due to bad apples and it’s always very sad to see! We’ve been lucky so far, glad to see someone spreading awareness to what these bad apples are doing not just to events but the hosts themselves who work tirelessly to get these events perfect.
I remember that Alfa Romeo crash. Sorry that happened man. But glad you got things back on track! The Dezerland venue is awesome! Keep up the good work! 👌
A good way to have cars and coffee or car meets is an invite only but posted a couple days before or day of "Invites" would be sent the location prior to the event and would be sent to people you immediately know. #SaveTheCarMeets has done this in success And cars and coffee setup from 7-11AM tend to sift bad apples on a Sunday
Happens here all the time. A couple idiots show up, and then it gets shut down for good. I'm sorry this happened to you, repeatedly, but very cool that you got the Orlando space
I'm guessing people reached out to you to help because you were so forward, honest and up-front about the issues you were having and had already put in preventative measures that others would not have considered. Thanks for putting this together.
Hey man it’s chaser media and I wanted to say that this video is well needed and hopefully people will be more respectful and responsible during these car shows. Love the effort and stay strong👍🏼🔥
Congratulations for not giving up!! I would definitely attend if I lived over in America!! Keep up the great work & keep the faith, Peace From London. 🙏🙏🙏
Every big meet I've been a part of in Chicago going back 30+ years eventually gets ruined. The only one I was a part of that lasted a while was quiet, private, invite-only. Sadly, that got taken over by somebody else who decided to publicize it... and within a year: gone. Kids showed up, burnouts, revving, etc... The best meets are private with just a few friends. And if you do them early in the morning (where you're wrapping it up by 8:30-9a) then most of the "kids" are just rolling out of bed when you're leaving.
Your shows are the best! I stopped going to the other monthly ones around town because they are to rowdy and I bring my 3 year old who LOVES the cars. Keep up the great work! I can’t wait to bring my restored Spitfire in a years time.
It must be so difficult for you when these incidents occur as you ( as the organiser ) must feel responsible. And its not your fault. I salute you for persevering and keeping things going in such a difficult to control situation. One of ( if not the largest ) Sunday car meets in Scotland at a place called Strathclyde Country Park, drawing in hundreds upon hundreds of cars ended after over a decade of incredible weekends due to more and more wanna-bee Rally drivers wasting it for everyone. Really enjoyed your insight in this video and you have a new Subscriber. Keep up the good work and I hope you keep getting the respect you deserve 👍🏼
Yeah, it's getting harder to find events anymore, we are in Delaware, and have lost 3 or 4 Cars and Coffee's because once they get bigger and more well known the outliers show up and do stupid stuff. It's not just kids either. Keep up the good work!
I was in a Mopar car club while in the Army. We would roll in 12-15 deep to most Cars and Coffee events around the Fayetteville, NC area. I have since moved on, but I still really miss doing it
I went to visit Diddly Squat here in the U.K. a couple of weekends back and there were some drivers doing similar show boating, it was embarrassing and so cringe.
i use to organize some car shows in houston texas area, it takes a tremendous amount of work to pull it off. Kudos to you and your crew for organizing these events all of us car nuts thank you
I started a cars and coffee where I live. Same thing. 10 became 20 then 40 etc. ended up with over 100 cars and on good days over 150 cars. Then came the problems with wreckless driving. I publicly announced I was stepping down as organiser because I was worried about liability if someone got hurt. It still runs to this day on its own, people just won’t stop turning up.
It's really awesome that you didn't give up and drop the show. It would've been very unfortunate for these events to be take away from hundreds of people for the actions of just a few. I also hate how great cars like Mopar and Mustangs have bad reps due to the terrible personalities and impulse control of their drivers.
Amen. I’ll never understand it either. People have no idea how much work goes into planning these things and at the end of the day, just think the rules just don’t apply to them. Our quarterly show, we have a bit of a natural deterrence for people doing pulls on exit due to really short run to a stop light. So far we’ve had no problems but I always use your show as an example when we tell folks don’t do stupid sh*t. Still haven’t had a chance to make it to your new location, but will get there soon!
Had a good time today at the Brownsburg, IN cars and coffee with my 2016 Roush blown 5.0, as I was leaving an M4 took a tight right turn into the main entrance then floored it to do a burn out.....he fish tailed wildly, he didn't hit anything but there were 100s of humans and cars tightly packed at that entrance. I feel you. Guys let's just rev the engine in neutral from time to time and just have fun.
Oh man! Literally live right next to that parking lot where you guys used to do the show and remember when that Alfa hit the wall. Such a shame, but I guess it’s all good since you guys moved to a better location as a result. Keep up the good work! Always love coming out to the events
It's a shame. This is very difficult to stop because some people are just born too stupid! I belong to a car community also here in Portugal. For us it's Rust & Coffe because we're more into old shit boxes up to 1990. This type of incident rarely happens at our shows even with a few hundreds of people. It does happen more often with super cars unfortunately 🤷♂️
Easiest solution- open it to only cars that were built/restored by the owner. Harder to justify being reckless with your shit when you’ve had to put hundreds of hours into it yourself.
I get how much work it is and how stressful it would be when people are naughty, but unfortunately I’ve never seen someone crash leaving a car show and I still want to 😂
i’ve never minded when guys do a quick rev or two because it lets the spectators hear these cars that they otherwise never would, but the drifting, burnouts, and hard launches can get people seriously hurt and can get shows shut down
Here in San Antonio Texas there is good C&C once a month in the Six Flags parking lot. I don’t know what other shows pull, but this one has exotics, muscle cars, military vehicles, sport bikes, VWs, old British sports cars, antiques, Vettes, rat rods, lead sleds, low riders and on and on. Y’all are invited!
I assure you Ryan, it's proper English. There's this amazing thing out there called an "idiom" which allows you to speak about things in a non-literal manner. A manner, in fact, often better understood by others.
The people that should watch this will never watch it. But interesting nethertheless and sad for the ppl that have manners and of course for people like you, having a lot of work organising and finding places etc.
Other than moving to bigger locations as the event grows, did you make other operating changes over the years, like having participants pre-register, or charge for spectators or vendor tables ?
The show has always been free to all attendees, and will continue to be. This is purely for the sake of bringing the car community together, and not money. There are some cars that pre-register to ensure a spot is reserved for them, that's usually for the very high end display vehicles like F40s, Carrera GTs, Enzo, etc.
People do what they want you can't control them. Getting upset about folks crashing their cars on their own actions, isn't worth the energy brother. Sorry this happens, but it is what it is man. Hope you have a great day regardless and hope you keep setting up events. Cheers
I love the laughter in the background when a bad driver can't handle his car... I'm that guy that can barely stand because I'm laughing so hard. The more damage the better.
I really appreciate your openness with this video. As someone who is new to this and interested in using events to promote careers in auto and new energy system systems, these (show off) moments are not helpful. I have heard some interesting things about Dezerland, sounds like a great loaction for you and them
Very informative! I feel safer knowing rules apply. I am happiest leaving in second gear idle lol chill and relaxed keep everyone safe. Have so much road to pull on after.
Big shout-out to Cars and Coffee held at Tampa Armature Works there are zero knuckleheads not to mention a badass venue. Keep doing what youre doing bro!
Love the video, and I'm glad that more people are speaking out on this behavior. I have one question for you, How do you financially manage an event like this? You mentioned paying Police Officers for their presence, do you also have to pay the venue, concessions, stands, etc? Do you collect any fees from any vendors or concessions that are at your meets due to the size of it? Just curious, as my local area used to have C&C sponsored by the local College, but this sort of behavior got it barred from happening again. So now there's no real organized group and it's just kids on Saturday nights with their clapped out civics in the supermarket parking lot...
I make virtually nothing on this show considering how much time I put into it. I probably can't go into the specifics with my sponsorship agreements, but believe me the money is exceptionally little and in some cases none. I don't do this for monetary gain and for years, I didn't even want sponsors because I was worried about the show looking 'commercial'. But a few friends with some automotive related businesses asked if they could sponsor and I was okay with that because I could vouch for their work. These days, the auto museum covers my police expenses, which were about $50 an hour (3 hours total).
I remember back when my dad first started taking me to shows, you'd have most guys giving it some gas when leaving, and the odd controlled burnout but that was about it. I don't remember people trying to be the next Tokyo Drift star. Plus with the days of stuff being really high HP out of the box, there's alot of inexperience with power behind the wheels.
The number one thing you forgot is old tire and cold tires. Tires are probably a few years old and they don’t even warm them up before really putting some power down. Be careful out there.
Of course. The M4 I believe was a cooler day, with some dampness earlier on. The Alfa was warm. And the Ferrari was an actually cold Florida day (40-degrees F).
I feel for you man. Here in Australia we get the same kind of stupid, selfish people whose need for attention far outweighs their driving skill... And it is those few that ruin and cause events to get shutdown. Hope your new venue appreciates that it is not people you welcome to your event that are doing these stupid acts....
EXACTLY straight pulls are what people they want to hear the exhausts not see burnouts or "drifting" hell I've talked to cops at these shows in the Dallas area and they've said the same thing they don't care unless you get reckless and dangerous
Not that I ever really did, but thanks for the reminder to not be a dick when leaving. People forget an actual person organizes these and their reputation with the parking lot owner is on the line.
I’ve hosted a great amount of Honda only meet ups and they have been great I’ve had about 300 cars pull up it was a great event and not many people did anything dumb or something to ruin the spot it’s still going strong. 3 years later
I enjoy going to a cars and coffee that is about the size of your first location with several hundreds of cars. The show organizer is very strict about the no hooliganism rule and thankfully keeps the show running and tells people that act up not to come back.
I'm afraid our local C&C is getting far too crowded. And every other person is trying to stream the event and creating bottlenecks. Just enjoy it, folks. I miss the days of a few dozen cars.
Very entertaining video Arnold, was always intrigued as to what it takes to organize such an event. And props for driving around and showing us all the locations!! I actually went to the original location many many years ago
Yea these people ruin the events for sure. I do appreciate a nice straight pull to hear engines but don't drift and push the car until you lose control. Thank god there weren't people walking where the cars hit
There will always be that 1 asshole that will screw things up! Good luck and your shows are great I got to attend a couple of them. kids car selections are really awesome.
I host one in Katy Texas. My rule is NO screwing around when you leave. It is currently in the middle of our community. I fully expect to deal with this as we grow and move to a new shopping center being finished near our community.
I don't know how you can get this many people with fast cars together without having at least one yo yo. Honestly surprised it doesn't happen every time.
Glad to know you’ve been able to keep the meets growing despite the circumstances and the actions of some idiots. I would love to organize one of these in my town in South Carolina. Would love to get some info on how to start. Thanks!
Start by joining local FB groups of a bunch of car makes (BMWs, Audis, Civics, Zs, etc). Make an FB group/page and create a public event and share it in the local FB groups you've joined. Hopefully the word spreads and the show grows. Being in a larger or populated area helps A LOT. My meets in New York City were always well attended because of the large population, and they were usually a single make event (for Nissans, primarily).
Been to a few of your events and they were all excellent. Please keep doing it. Just moved to Conway area and don't know the scene ad I did in dr. Phillips area. Do you know of any good events on the east side of Orlando?
I really enjoy cars and coffee since 2000 when I bought my first 911 (993 TT) but yea some guys just have to show off and crash. And it’s not always young kids either. We had a 70+ guy come in in a million dollar AMG race car that had a one day permit to drive up to Button Willow to track it that afternoon. He came flying in the parking lot and dumped the clutch and hit a curb. He mashed all the carbon fiber along the door sills. Probably 10k-50,000 worth of damage
I just learned of Cars and Coffee. I had never heard of it. I just found one up here by me in North Carolina. I can't wait to go as a spectator until I get my car done. I don't have anything like a supercar or anything. I have seen a bunch of over eager adult adolescence leaving car shows and wrecking. They arr ruining it for everyone. The car culture was a nuisance long ago and its become a nuisance again because of a few undesirables. Thank you for the video.
