I'm just a hobbyist so I'm not trained in illustration, but I found myself repeatedly thinking "hmm, this is missing something but I don't know what" and I was impressed with how intuitively he seemed to find the solution and how he executed it so tastefully; including things that worked out *much* better than I expected like the long shadow on the Spotify icon.

Yes, Discord is primarily used for communication while gaming but I am pretty sure he just made up thsi part about the logo, or is just claiming his own interpretation is the actual story behind it. (it is not.)

@@JamesR624 It took me 2 minutes to look up the history of Discord's logo and find that the icon indeed resembles a game controller. All it took was a little over 100 seconds to instantly prove your bs wrong 💀

​​@@TheEepyMagiThis video kinda shows the downfalls of those kinds of logos. They're well designed but that spotify one for example looks awful. And the more details a logo has the less versatile it is at any resolution; that's the main reason for the transition

i disagree! theres a much larger reason at play. the reason we used realistic icons at the beginning is to draw everybody in. familiarity does wonders, especially for older audiences which was their main goal. the elderly could have looked at an icon with a microphone and go "hey, this records!" at the time this WAS simplicity. theres videos out there that explain it better than i did, but thats the gist and the goal of things like fruitiger aero and skeumorphism. the reason we switched to minimalism is because fruitiger aero and similar things envoke *emotion.* minimalism for the most part does not. now that everybody is aware on how to use a phone and apps, how do they keep them on? simple, neutral designs that evoke little emotion. its a similar reason to why doomscrolling is such a problem. its numbing, it doesnt envoke much in you so you continue to use it. its literally just a tactic to keep you on longer

@@pasousam I'm no hater. And I'd myself love to see it happen, but i don't think the sponsor would have permitted him to alter their logo, which is their brand identity and the one they had spent money on to create for themselves.
