Maybe I missed this in the video, how did you find/apply for the allotment?
@SpicyMoustache
@SpicyMoustache Год назад
Kind of a random story. I was tending to my front garden when an old guy named Alf stopped by to admire it so I showed him my backyard garden (as I usually do that when I see people passionate about growing food or curious). He was really impressed and he asked me to stop by on a Sunday at the local plots to apply for one. I heard of people waiting in the queue to get one for many years but once I explained my project and assured them that I would have worked hard to make it look great, I managed to get it in 4 months

I’m in the desert Southwest of the US. 5000’ elevation in the upper Chihuahuan desert. I’m trying to turn desert geology, good dirt, into living soil. I’m 5 years in and just getting started. A friend donated some greenhouse frames of varying sizes, one of which is gonna provide 2 raised beds about 20’ long. I’m being forced into redesigning my garden to accommodate my wheelchair with wider paths.

@@dr.froghopper6711"water is life" is the mantra where I live too. Central California where so much of the world's food is grown. Technically a desert, without water and irrigation systems it would be a dustbowl here. I appreciate what you need to adapt for your mobility issues. I have multiple types of arthritis and am needing to adapt for them. Raised beds, tools that are light weight and have fat handles as well as shorter handled shovels and hoes so I can work seated. There are so many great children's tools available now that I am getting well equipped again. Happy gardening friend.

Did you cement the bricks together or are they free standing? Did you add a lining on the inside to prevent the compost leaking out? I have a load of old bricks and roof tiles. I was thinking of doing something similar, but using the tiles as a lining as they have a slight curve. It truly is a wonderful idea. It's making me look at everything I have to see if I can use it. I Poland you can buy a plot or rather a share in a society that owns number of plots. You become a member, everyone has the same rights and you can sell allotment later on if you wish. Usually sizes of these are 200-400 square meters. You got electricity there and water in each allotment. You pay for electricity whatever you use and you pay membership fee which is usually around 20p per square meter per year. Also you are allowed to raise a proper building on your plot up to 35m measured around the building walls + 12m2 of decking.
