I'm in hot, humid north central Arkansas. I've not had any luck with Roma tomato plants also. They struggle and get blossom end rot. Good job on the tomato structures, they are doing quite well.

Re blueberries: I live in and grew up in Canada. Blueberries grow wild here in both Ontario and east of Ontario and on the Pacific West Coast. There are two basic kinds of blueberries that I have encountered in the wild in my ramblings. The short/low bush blueberries grow mostly in Eastern Canada and do best after a burn-through forest wild fire. Not the kind of forest fire that devistates the landscape, but the kind that burns the low lying brush and returns those nutrients to the soil. After a brush clearing wildfire you get a really good flush of blueberries in the next 2 or 3 years. And you have to keep track of where the black bears are- they love them too. So for that short little bush you have I would look up the elements that are left behind after a hardwood (maples, birch, etc) type forest. You are looking for the minerals etc left after a burn of the undergrowth. The other kind of blueberries, the high bush blueberries, are generally found on the West (Wet) Coast often on the mountains (not at the feet of the mountains but about half way up) and not generally after a burn through. You don't want burn throughs in an evergreen forest. These tend to be the ones used to develop the commercial varieties because they produce more berries at an easy picking height and are just easier to 'farm'.But you are looking at soil created by evergreens about midway up the mountains, so somewhat acidic soil. What you would find in a rain forest that goes bone dry in the summer. So, acidic. That is the kind of natural feed for the taller wild blueberry bushes. There are also a number of medium to high bush blueberries that have been modified from tall bush varieties to do well down into the southern US. They have different nutrition needs. You have to know the variety and where it actually comes from to feed the bush properly. That's a rough look at the feeding of blueberries, but knowing where they come from will get you started. And of course proper feeding means resiliance. Blueberries in general should be highly tolerant of large varients in temperature and weather. They come from the wild in a cold and variable climate. Hope this helps.

Tomatoes do not have enough calcium, so the leaves curl and top rot appears. It is necessary to feed the plants with calcium nitrate, for example. I also suggest trying large varieties of tomatoes. We call them a bull heart, they grow to the size of two fists.
@breugel1
@breugel1 3 года назад
Yes this calcium Deficiency common where I live… you mix the solution and apply to the whole plant when the blossoms are on. Also peppers get it to. I also save egg shells an crush them and put them in the soil.
@ИванИванов-ъ1д6н
@ИванИванов-ъ1д6н 3 года назад
@@breugel1 Eggshells will only help on acidic soils, and after a few months until the shells dissolve. And tomatoes need calcium right now, so it needs to be added to the soil in a soluble form. Calcium nitrate dissolved in water is best suited for this. These problems could have been avoided if the soil had the correct composition from the beginning to suit the tomato.

I add the egg shells in the fall for the next year. Here at the garden center you can buy a calcium solution where toy dilute it ad water the plants with it when they are setting fruit.

In Germany a lot of gardeners all over the country suffer from blight (Braunfäule) on their tomatoes due to the high humidity. If you have this fungus-like microorganism that causes the serious potato and tomato disease, you should burn all infected leaves and never throw them on your beds or compost. Usually tomatoes don't like rain from above and grow better with a roof over them.

I find that roma tomatos do suffer more from rot than other kinds, maybe the soil isn't acidic enough ?

Slugs have been an issue for me this year and I'm in upstate New York. Do you have cabbage moth issues on your kale, sprouts and broccoli? Try Amish paste tomatoes instead of Roma they are delicious.

Yeah Roma tomatoes are a very temperamental plant. They do well in dryer hot weather where they only get controlled water. They would probably do well in the greenhouse. Edit sorry I didn't see that they are struggling in your greenhouse as well.

I’m growing Romas in 7 gallon container. They’re doing very well. The key is consistent watering. Don’t let the soil dry out or you will get blossom end rot. One way to correct it is use Tums (it has calcium) and mix with water in a 1 gallon container and pour it around the base of plant. Best of luck to you both your plant.
@phildo87
@phildo87 3 года назад
@@zaria5785 yeah my aunt loves growing them on her patio. But for me where I grow about 50 plants at a time they require to much focus for me to bother with. I grow jubilee tomatoes instead and they require the same levels as the other tomatoes I grow.

Blossom end rot is caused by depleted soil. Poor drainage can also cause it. Don't just pick off the ugly fruit and drop back onto the soil. Dispose of them. You want to get rid of the problem, not keep its spores hanging around in their favorite environment to wreak havoc the next season. 🌱
