You know, the concept behind that first level was kinda cool, as it’s emulating a D&D dungeon crawl. Like how having the boot as a thief allows you to bypass (I.e. sneak pass) that first boss. And then upon defeating the lich you get access to the dungeon’s treasure room at the end.
Thanks dude, my idea was that each power trivializes one of the three routes and both bosses if you can hang on to it long enough. Ryu's right about dark levels, I just really wanted to stick to the theme despite making hot garbage hahah! Watching this made making that level worth it though :)
@MPDeity Thank you! I still had a ton of fun watching Ryu play it even if he didn't like it. I'm pretty glad all the tabletop fans in the comments get what I was doing.
@@OscarHernandez-gt7xv Seconding this sentiment, amazing level. Fire flower = wizard because of fireball spells, and tail = fighter so Mario has to get into enemies' faces to fight. Super clever, man.
"So what you wanna do is get the Fire Flower.." ... "So what you wanna do is get the Fire Flower.." ... "So what you wanna do is get the Fire Flower.."
The mere fact he used to clear horrible Dashie levels, I'm not surprised that he has remained calm. I'm just waiting for the inevitable legit rage. (Though he did drop the controller out of frustration, once or twice)
@@frostburnwoof Well he is human after all so it's allright to feel frustrated by what is close to mind torture (I dont understand how some people enjoy he suffering like that, they should be ashamed of themselves), but he is the calmest human in the world IMO and probably will continue to be in my eyes for a long time.
@@Willowisp927 No doubt he is the calmest. That controller drop I'm talking about was obviously a futile attempt to "show rage" because he still looked really calm. lol He came in just the right time too. While every single RU-vidr out there was screaming their balls through the camera, Ryu just laughed at every single thing. I also like how he records, it's as if there's a live audience. I also really like how he would explain inside Mario community jokes.
hey ryu, you didn't need to jump of the cloud you can just hold up to break pows and blocks, you can however get stuck above the bridge under the pows.
Yeah, the first pow column was for the 10's place and the second was for the 1's place. I'm just confused how no one else seemed to understand it. Seemed pretty straightforward to me
It even had a 'tutorial' question where it showed you the answer, and let you climb up to see how you breaking the right number of pows created a path. The level creator couldn't have made it more obvious if they tried.
The puzzle level would actually have been fun if it was just the first 3 or 4 challenges. It was a classic "here is every variation on the idea, crammed into a single level" with no thought for pacing
@MPDeity I know that you copied his format, no need for name calling. I was trying to go along with it but add something to it, but I see it didn't really work out, sorry. And if you were also joking with your reply I apologize again.
@@pembertr0n the level was pretty good, what I loved the most is how the thief path has a "trap" that opens up, but playing as the thief "disarms" the trap.
The coin level is a genuinely cool idea, but it just takes it too far. The creator would've really benefited from having his level playtested and rebalanced. Shame that Mario Maker doesn't really have a strong feedback and development system.
It dragged on too long, and then added a whole new rule near the end. As well as the extremely tight end. A second checkpoint would have helped quite a bit, probably during the section you go back to the same room multiple times or even right before the final room, but maybe they didn't add it either to be cruel or because they didn't want to play test it again.
@@loopstratos4619 I have to agree, a little tight in places but not completely awful upto that point. But after that it got real bad. And the ending was just wrong on so many levels.
That sudden change of rule is super confusing, like no one would easily figure out what to do with those pows. Also, that Bowser room simply sucks... That creator simply doesn't pit himself into the players' perspective, and expects everyone to know as much about the level as he does, despite the fact that it's simply impossible to count those scattered coins with a Bowser and Bowser junior in a dark room
9:05 This level would be DGR's equivalent to hell. You think Elmo's Counting is a challenge, while you just got upgraded to Elmo's Counting for Professors. 12:59 The POW formula was in the 1-up room showing you that the left side represents the 10s column in a decimal system, and the 1s column is on the right side of the decimal system. Basic Counting...
The level's gimmick of counting coins wasn't a bad idea but it was ruined by the needless difficulty, the change on how you pick the right answer and that ending that requires perfect timing. That and some of it felt trolly like the limited tries on reading the screen, to having to wait til you hit the first checkpoint to encounter anything but a normal coin , to well the Bowser room and that ending. I was liking it at first but oh boy that turned into hot garbage quickly.
RedSunFX It's faster to take a picture with your phone than using the screenshot button if you want to edit it on your phone. Otherwise you have to insert a MicroSD card, save the screenshot there, turn the Nintendo Switch off (and thus close the game), take out the MicroSD card, insert it in your phone and import the screenshot to your phone. Using your phone is better for situations like these anyways. I already did the MicroSD thing for the video for DGR and I'll do it for the 1.1.0 Black Hole glitch video as well as these are/ will be uploaded to RU-vid on my alt. account and I want quality, unlike the videos I have on this account. They're just garbage and ready to be deleted.
@@contentdeleted1621 You could take a photo of the screen shot? It would still be easier because you wouldn't have to juggle the controller and the phone at the same time. Also Ryukahr is recording the footage with an capture card to his PC. He could just interrupt the recording and look at his already recorded footage.
Go&MiiGudd dude you’re overthinking this. Just screenshot it on the switch and then take a photo of that screenshot. Much easier since you don’t have to worry about setting your controller down and grabbing your phone during the gameplay.
Rewatching this cuz its my favorite. I love around 16:45 when most others would throw in the towel… ryu goes “i have to get pictures of the entire room… its the only way” 😆
@@wholesomebaker5410 Basically Ryukahr is well liked and charismatic so he's getting a pass for booing a level based off the experience of a different one. But if someone that is highly disliked like Logan had done the same thing, the comments section would be calling him out on it.
@@smpiano6605 it's also worth noting that he called himself out. I think he regretted it immediately and did it without thinking, but you can't unboo. But yeah, that be the world, and Ryu's track record is relatively clean (though I think he does act unfair sometimes)
@@OscarHernandez-gt7xv :3 I love rpgs, and this reminded a bit of like Salt and Sanctuary or Unepic. With the dark vibe to it, and classes. The pathing difference too was awesome.
I honestly don't know how you kept it together so well for that puzzle level ending. I'm a pretty laid back guy, but I would have smashed everything within reach.
the final comment is pure gold. (sorry about the loss you took in gsa. oh and also still waiting ryuvenge on that trampoline level from the last episode btw!)
Ryu: ~gets tablet to "take pic with phone" when switch has screenshot feature~ If this wasnt a clearer sign of a calm gamer slowly going insane, idk what is! -
Ryu the pow thing represented how many coins there were because the first column represented the first digit with how many POWs left there were, and the second column represented the second digit.
llucllumador true, but the way the creator went about upping the challenge was interesting. the bowser room sucked for sure, but until then. and brute forcing besides just looking at the hint (pows on left is the tens digit, pows on the right is the ones digit) was lame
Mr Spaghetti the counting coins level was good until the end. The additional rule is not too bad but that bowser room was not designed from a players perspective. As ryu mentioned, the creator knew how many coins there were so they didn’t even have to worry about actually trying to count (same is true for all the rooms really), completely bypassing the difficulty of the room.
llucllumador but i more meant themed levels, like the first one where the guy recreated like an old school Gauntlet game. Ryu never complimented the creativity at work, the way he used MM to attempt a different genre. just a bunch of “cmon man!” and “ugh”s until he was finished
Having a neat or original theme doesn't necessarily mean it's a good level, especially when it's all in the dark. Not being able to see the hazards around you sucks.
Ryu: "So what you want to do is get the fire flower..." falls down pit. Ryu:"So what you want to do is get the fire flower..." takes damage. Me: "Poor Ryu".😭
The thumbnail... I’m crying. Literally the first add was Black Media covering “Last Kiss” I’m not sure what that means but, I’m staying inside for the rest of the night.
The counting level reminded me of the Extraordinarily Hard Games series, especially how Ryu started talking about the level: "did they have to make it so treacherous"?
Dark levels are a good amount of these types of levels because most folks don't have the patience to go through something they can't see. Also, in some cases the level may be impossible if you can't see the hidden dev pipe in the dark.
That's the thing with 0 clear experts. They *could* be super experts, but enough people haven't played the levels enough to know that. Wild ass crapshoot
