Fitting that Darkrai puts you to sleep.

My main problem with it is that it feels like dark pulse should be activating much much faster but there’s such a crazy wait time between each hit of damage that it feels incredibly weak

We should be able to take rayquaza into the void

It's a speedster so why does the damage feel like it's closer to the damage numbers of support pokemons

The fact you can remotely activate the void punch after they sleep is cool

For a speedster it looks pretty sluggish. The fact the kit is to put things to sleep sort of indicates that, too. I think the potential for burst damage is there, but unless someone gets really good at landing those bursts, it will be a tough one to master. The ult is really cool, I think it just needs more tuning on the damage and make it feel more like an actual speedster with some mobility or increased attack damage. Maybe the attack items/attack speed would be beneficial given the CDR on moves are so long? When mons are sitting there waiting for dark pulse to end... that's painful.

The one who thought and designed Darkrai's moves should be fired

Shadow claw and Nasty plot seems like the combo to go with.

Ok so, I tried Darkrai in the PTS, and I gotta say it feels underwhelming, BUT, I think I’m onto something. I used Shadow Claw with Nasty Plot, and the items Muscle Band, Razor Claw, and Slick Spoon. Since basics hit with physical damage but abilities use magic damage (special atk), I decided to combine them both and it seems to work! The combo would be (for now) Nasty Plot -> Shadow Claw -> Ult -> Shadow Claw -> Basic. Late games becomes even better since Nasty Plot+ refreshes when enemy falls asleep and Shadow Claw does just that. I’m thinking on using double stack Atk Weight and Sp Atk Specs along with Resonant Guard, or Aeos Cookie for extra HP. There’s also Shell Bell for the CD. I will update any other finds I come across. UPDATE #1: Early game feels so much better now, but late game… it gets so rough.. Imma try Shell Bell next to see what changes, but so far double stacking isn’t that great compared to the first build I tried. I feel Darkrai NEEDS a buff, and a big one.. UPDATE #2: This time I used Resonant Guard, Shell Bell, and Slick Spoon. Gotta say survivability is pretty decent now, perhaps even good, but damage is still pretty mediocre. Considering how squishy Darkrai is, he should hit harder and have more mobility with his abilities, the classic glass cannon. But for now, he’s just glass..

Shedinja Doll is useless because it sets you up to instantly get KO'd and Dark Pulse isn't much better. It really needs to hide where you're targetting.

Tbh , he seems lacklustre. He just doesn't feel like a Speedster to me

such an iconic Pokemon ruined by such a bad gameplay

Also being OP and being boring aren’t mutually exclusive. Like Prime Mewtwos (especially Y)

12:05 The shadow claw dark pulse combo seems sick if this is true. Hit the first use of shadow claw to put a mark on Venu. Then use dark pulse and hit Venu with first use of dark pulse, activating the mark and putting Venu to sleep. Finally landing shadow claw on a sleeping opponent does increased damage dealing 1,780 damage to Venu compared to the 1,029 spragles did on the altaria a few seconds earlier. It seems overall reception of Darkrai is negative but I can't wait to try this.

Love the design of Darkrai and what he's supposed to do. Dark Pulse feels slow to me, especially as this is a Speedster, you are just stranded there while the enemies wait for you.

Should've been ranged. Auto attacks could be like Mewtwo Y and build up a Drowsiness meter or something, where after a certain amount of attacks, Darkrai puts the enemy to sleep. This could also affect nearby enemies

Idk if it's the lag, but Dark Pulse is the main disappointment to me.

It seems like this is one of the few times where the fantasy of the pokemon and the mechanics of it have NOT met in the middle well. It’ll definitely need some reworking or some REALLY good quality of life. Personally I think the moves should be reworked and its focus on sleep needs a quality of life change with how it’s triggered and works.

I feel like it is vital to try and confuse the enemies waiting in the dark pulse circles with the shadow claws so they don’t know when u are going to pop out. Still needs buffs

I think darkrai will be pretty good he seems a lot more team reliant like he can do okish dmg but would 1000% benefit from a wiggly or lax helping put people to sleep to get more use out of bad dreams even when his cds are up

jake seems to have been losing some weight, and i mean that in a healthy way. guy is a stud!

Damn idk. I personally like the first moveset I think the boosteds from the portals are very cool, the single target damage looks really good seems like you’ll be able to assassinate people pretty well and you could do some sweet combos if you manage your nasty plot counters and cooldowns well. I wish it was a bit flashier especially since this is a mythical pokemon though, maybe it will get better once they add the sound affects and stuff but the visual oomph just kinda isn’t there Now the 2nd moveset feels problematic, it looks clunky and doesn’t do enough damage for a speedster. I feel like shadow claw should do more damage but the main problem is Dark pulse. Dark pulse is both extremely telegraphed and does no damage, even if you hit both shadow claw and dark void hits (won’t happen often) it’s not enough to KO most things and even if you wanna do that little damage you need to have your shadow claw cooldown up before you use dark void. Dark pulse definitely needs either a rework or a huge damage buff. I suggest they have it reset the cooldown of shadow claw when the move ends and have the shadow claw you use during dark pulse be up always despite if shadow claw is on cooldown or not. That way you could do Shadow Claw-> Dark pulse -> The dark pulse version of shadow claw -> the dark pulse hits -> shadow claw

I hope they rework Nasty Plot's range or cooldown or some reset gimmick (other than the + version) so that you can dash around enemies and makes it feel more speedster-like

I really hope this is an early first look because this has the parts of a great Pokémon, but everything about it feels underbaked. Some changes I’d like to see to this: -if it’s gonna be a lvl 6 first move Pokémon, it needs some kind of increased effectiveness from its base moves, because as it stands it feels bad to farm and to gank. It’s burst damage is pretty good, so I’m tentative to say it needs a damage number increase. Maybe decrease it’s base cooldowns or, preferably, during the duration of calm mind, make it normal attacks scale off of its special attack stat as that would allow better usage of the damage items and emblems it would want to run for more consistent damage while its waiting for hypnosis to come back up. -Dark Pulse needs to be faster and when you pop leave Pokémon within that circle you pop out of either gets knocked away or gets put to sleep. -the nasty plot/dark void build needs healing. Either from Nasty Plot’s boosted attacks or using a boosted auto to wake up Pokémon put to sleep by Dark Void. -if you win your duel during the unite, you should be rewarded. Either you should be healed to full with unstoppable or you should have a brief invuln window and move speed increase so you can at least reposition without getting blown up by the enemy team. It feels really bad to be punished so hard with no counter play for yourself for winning in your own unite. It needs something.

I really expected dark void to bounce off targets as a multi hit, rather than just hitting once. His basic attacks just seem really boring like Miraidon and Mewtwo.

I’m really really REALLY hoping that it’s buffed before its release. I feel like, compared to heavy-hitters like Leafeon, Absol, and Talon that it’s not going to have that big damage burst that speedsters are expected to have. Right now it feels almost like a supporter.

But does his passive work with wiggly and snorlax putting Pokémon to sleep?

I was really hoping that dark void was going to have a move animation more similar to modern Pokémon games. Like a big pool of dark energy on the ground that puts enemies to sleep

I feel like for the idea of Darkrai coming to the game as the first Sp Attack Speedster since base Unite, the team couldve went harder with the way Darkrai feels. Maybe it needs a patch like Gyrados got where it just gets its move smoothed out and it makes a world of difference

it may shine best in a sleep team, as long as the ability works on other pokemon's sleeps (yawn, sing, etc)

I'm not going to lie. I think darkrai should have increased basic attack range for his boosted, it doesn't have to be far, i say about dragonite's basic attack range, but there definitely be more range to hit sleeping targets with your shadow.

They should add more inside the domain to mske it appealing other than just making it look like we were blinded by sandthrow or smoke screen Edit: Im mainly speaking about darkrai POV

Dude dark pulse is literally a broken (in a negative way) move. It looks like you cannot get out of it anytime you want and you have to wait until the whole duration is up making it a complete garbage. The enemies simply just have to walk away while you become a sitting duck with no more chasing potential whatsoever.

It seems like Bad Dreams also gives you a Boosted Attack. Darkrai wants to Dark Void / Shadow Claw then go in for a Basic Attack so they sleep, While they're taking damage over time you retreat and Boosted Attack from range.

Love darkrai really hope the dark pulse is the stronger build when it realeses

I feel like he's supposed to be a sneaky mon , getting in and getting out . If someone is on the dark pluse when its about to end don't appear there . Use nasty plot to get around and boost damage, to jump on unexpected players.

Ironically the nasty plot + dark void set is a lot better than the other(shadow claw + dark pulse). It has the mobility & burst this Pokémon DESPERATELY needs. But you should probably try Shadow claw + Nasty Plot It’s so underwhelming & I was hoping that Dakrai would be the speedster to make me play speedsters(the one class I dont play cuz I just don’t like the play style & dont wannna deal with jungle shenanigans)

Everything needs more synergy together and it needs to be faster, im a tad disappointed

By no means this feels as an speedster, they just thought it fit with the gengar archetype but on steroids and gave it a go...

I mean...i do like like that his basic boosted hits the pokemon as long as its on screen, kinda crazy the range but he sucks so bad they need to speed up his moves and reduce cd and boost that dmg up because hes so slow at everything and soooo weak too, this is a support the way it is now

I think you should lead with dark pulse then do you first hit from it and shadow claw twice then run or get the KO with the last hit

Man, Dark Void looks omega disappointing. Would have been much if it was an aimable small circle in an area like Rain Dance. And if it hit it gave you a follow up dash to approach the asleep target. And maybe make the Nasty Plot dash a little bigger.

Want to know if Dark Pulse and Dark Void have any unique interactions or are kinda useless together? Overall not the most interesting looking Pokemon gameplay wise to me either. Has potential though.

With the ult being an "arena", Dark Pulse will fill the arena. They are less likely to juke. Update: Woof, Dark Pulse just does not hit hard enough to justify taking yourself out of the game that long.

Dark Pulse seems like something youd use in a team fight. Theres no value in using it in a 1v1.

The only problem here is that darkrai is not fast, its moves are really slow, slower old t tar's stone edge, even the ult is slow and makes the user startled for a while when using ult, just increase damage a bit and do a real good buff on move speed and it will get good

I made a YT short about Darkrai. It's a Sp.Attacker. It's doesn't feel like a speedster to me. The moves seem too slow

Really don't know how can dark pulse be much usefull, in what situation will the enemy team be that spread out?

Ping is not helping with my observation, but darkrai feels so sloowww. Lots of standing around doing nothing, especially activating boosted basics. Darkrai should be able to move doing that. Dark pulse also seems extremely slow. We can see in the video how you are button mashing it and the moves dont come out because they are LOCKED for some time. The activation time takes forever for lackluster damage that isn't worth escaping from; not even a pikachu you had level lead over died from it. Being invulnerable during it doesn't matter when you do no damage, kind of a goodra syndrome. Also really not a fan of the current visuals for the ult. It's flashy and confusing when exiting which makes my head hurt.
