I actually worked on an evolution based game in college. It used a Space Invaders gameplay style with the creatures evolving every round based on your play style. I believe it's still on Steam as Darwin's Demons.

3:01 that tree is what I'd imagine spruce trees to look like in that one old version of minecraft. you've probably seen the old oak trees before. the trunk is normal but for the leaves it would be a line up, right, left, front, and back. if we had spruce trees in that version and it wasn't limited to cubes I'd imagine a spruce sapling to look like that.
