Local game store, and Guiness world record holder 'WeGeekTogether' decided that this summer they wanted to once again set the record for the most people ever participating in a single game of Dungeons and Dragons at the same time. This is the story of how I not only attended, but got to DM for my table in one of the biggest events in TTRPG history!
This event was a ton of fun! Thank you to everyone who made it possible. If you're interested in learning more about the store behind the event, you can check them out on their website:
www.wegeektogether.com/
If you enjoyed the video, consider subscribing, I upload fantasy related content and engage in critical but positive analysis about all sorts of projects coming out in the fantasy community.
Thank you for watching!

My table didn’t have a healer, so our strategy was “kill things before they can kill us” the only person to go down was the person who originally brought up the idea
@aviFlashbacks
@aviFlashbacks Месяц назад
also we rolled so many natural 20s we fully explored the airship and city, and were able to take the first break about 20 minutes early
@aviFlashbacks
@aviFlashbacks Месяц назад
Additionally, despite having a fully part of 5, having really great rolls, and even a level 6 party member (who had participated on friday as well, along with being in the previous event) we didn’t manage to get off the airship deck either, and also only dealt about 30 damage to aos
@aidanpocock
@aidanpocock Месяц назад
Yeah I know, if I had been aware ahead of time of how little time I'd have, I probably would have just had my party go straight down to the reactor room. There's a lot of things I would have done differently If I knew in advance but at the end of the day it was still a ton of fun

Advice for any DMs still trying to figure out how to balance effective persuaders in the party: assign leverage that needs to be acquired before players can make important Persuasion checks. Some NPCs can start off already pliable with a Persuasion check while more important ones will require a quest like stealing an item, doing a favor, discovering what they care about, or fighting something before they can be persuaded.
@aidanpocock
@aidanpocock Месяц назад
That's actually a really good tip! I think I will definitely use that in the future. Because I hate the idea that you can convince anyone of anything with a high enough roll. I think additional merit should absolutely be needed. Thanks for the suggestion!
@jemm113
@jemm113 Месяц назад
This kind of advice is actually in the 5e DM guide! NPCs should have various temperaments and I think the book suggests 3 broad ones: Hostile, Neutral, and Friendly. Social checks help players move into the friendly territory, but things like personality, goals, and information all should play a role in how the party succeeds or fails in diplomacy or roleplay, and encounters really shouldn’t see you jumping too far up without due cause.

My group also went to take down the airship. During the reconnaissance we found maps over the town, angelic soldier drop pods, and super laser. Basically we learned the enemy plan was take airship over the base then fire the laser directly over before having the angelic soldiers clean up the survivors. After the airship we used flying carpets to get to the prison to save the people before they could be turned into angels and then at the final battle we ended up going to the top of the tower and dropping a bunch of oil and other things through a whole the casting fireball and just blowing it up before the final fight with Aos happened. It was insane.

@@aidanpocock It's really fun! And (of primary concern for me) convenient. No scheduling issues, ever lol. I find it's a great way to take a deep dive into the rules and really discover some nuances that often get overlooked. You have all the time in the world to look up a relevant rule and understand it. I think it will make me a better DM in the long run. Look for a 3rd-party supplement called DM Yourself. Or another one called Elminster's Guide To Solo Adventuring. They're good gateways into the solo hobby. There's also been some solo adventures published in the last couple of years by third party publishers. Glad to hear that I wasn't alone in not being able to hear hahaha. And I agree, act one could have been a little shorter. In all honesty the event could have been twice as long and I think I would have been ok with that.

Once he lost half health he became erratic and was capable of hurting himself on accident. He was immune to anything that could grapple him or prevent him from leaving battle. And he had a lot of abilities that required players to make high DC saving throws or become charmed/prone. His AC wasn't high enough that it was hard to land hits but he was extremely dangerous if he targeted onto one character. In all honesty I didn't get to try out all his moves since the fight was pretty fast paced, but he was a monster to handle to be sure.
