I played Jan Mayen in Victoria 2. I didn't like it. 

Fun fact: Jan Mayen irl has no permanent population except for 35 non-permanent residents, not much has changed since 1836 there lol

Tips: 1. If you have diplo points, increase relations with the nation you want to be spered by as that increases their desire to spire you. 2. Get prestige tro tech. 3. Try to get high population colonial provinces and admin and tax reacherch. 4. With that you can finance a dockjards, with you can buy capital ships (as jan mayern has only one provence where they can build capital ships you need to spam them). 5. Capital ships give redediklues military points, so ignore the ship limit and build the best that you can build until your great power. (Higher Capital ships give more points) 6. Always use imfamy and drag your ally into them (as victoria ai is braindead, try to cnker stuff connected or near each other, as they dont anderstand how to land or bring troops back and are easily conflicted if there are more than one place to land, so one war after another). 7. In the colonoies promote Soldiers, they dont need to be good or many as you can transport them around with ships. If you do that, you will have a great power jan mayer that can influence Scandinavia untill you became it or a great power with is only one because of ships, prestige and an unstable colonial empire.

Jan mayen can form Scandinavia so you don't accually have to conquer the whole thing, you can just sphere them and get all their land via decision.

If i recall correctly you either need to have Denmark, Norway and Sweden Sphered, directly owned, or puppeted to form Scandinavia. It may be worth it to try and puppet sweden, then denmark, with a GP's help, and form Scandinavia afterwards.

Fun fact is that if you pay attention to the GFM part of the video you'll see that Jan Mayen's primary culture is Ashkenazi, aka, your standard European Jewish culture, Jan Mayen has weird cultures in gfm and mods alike cause it's supposed to not be annexed by random events and countries with the same culture And then in ToL they had to make JM's culture a random African one because Germany can have Ashkenazi as primary culture and it would then annex the island
