I played Risk of Rain 2 for 400 hours. Here's my Survivor Tier List. 

Captain is broken IMO with his primary, free Red item, and his hacking beacon. Especially for E8 where you need the gold.

This is a terrible list *insert character* is wayyy better than *rank* because I have 10,000 hours playing them and beat monsoon difficulty blindfolded with them.

I’m a REX main 😢. I don’t play E8 though. I just think it fun to play REX, he also has good lore.

I play a lot of merc and I’ve found that his lack of range makes up for his insane mobility through dash resets. The same is the case for the loader, and the right items makes him nearly perma alpha state with his ult

Normally I would talk about how Rex is my main survivor and how much pain I get by seeing them in trash, but I don’t play eclipse as I usually play casually with friends or modded. I don’t really like the unnecessary difficulty of eclipse.

Bandit should be in broken because he can go invis behind enemies and then shred them.

Great insight, I think I agree with like 90% of what you said and how you placed each survivor. It would help though, if you would use other terms than good/nice/great for literally every survivor and highlight more of their unique strengths. It'd also be worth portraying some sort of a general direction with each character, something you've done well describing huntress at 3:57 where you talked about proc chains, cc and band procing. I mean for example, you did mention how commando's alt loadout is stronger than his default one, but then boiled it down to "decent damage" instead of emphasizing that frag grenade becomes your main uncapped AoE option that enables band proccing and Phase blast is huge for single target enemies like tp bosses. Great video nontheless, just pointing out a lot of generalities that I've found in the video. Also, not sure how you've played Merc and captain but you should really experiment with them more. Slicing winds is much stronger in terms of dmg, procs and much safer to use. It also grants expose debuff, which is huge for his 3rd primary tech. And for Captain, aside from his busted primary that you've covered, double hacking beacon and Diablo strike are just that strong. You get free legendaries, full multishop with card or a guarateed shrine of chance rewards via hacking beacons. Diablo strike, while being a bit of a meme actually lets you one shot every tp boss and skips half of mithrix fight. Oh, and I'd just skip Heretic placement on the tier list entirely, especially how you seem to play e8 no lunars.

I know he ain't the best, but man REX is fun to play haha. To be fair, with all my time in this game, I somehow haven't really messed with Eclipse yet. Sounds like he's definitely worse in that mode than he is in regular. Great list! You should do one for Risk of Rain Returns if you haven't already! I'd be interested to hear your take on it.

This is how my tier list looks like for my playtime

Summary: Every character goes in "Very good" except for like one or two.

Outside of Eclipse REX is a monster, but yeah when your 1 gimmick is "sacrifice health for big damage" then playing the gamemode where you don't get health back is pretty tough. Personally I'd disagree with a couple placements, but I don't typically run Eclipse so it makes sense that we'd have different perspectives there.

commando is technically reliant on items but he can way more than hold his own, two gasolines and all his crowd control problems are pretty much gone, not only that but he is a proc chain god, even stronger than huntress in this regard

This tier list is fully correct. Weird, I’ve been seeing some totally unhinged tier lists lately and it’s weird to see one that’s right.

My usual tier list tends to go like: S: Acrid, Artificer, False Son, Loader, Mercenary (provided you expose-carry, A otherwise), Railgunner, Void Fiend A: Bandit, Huntress (my main), Mul-T, Seeker (unsure, didn't play much and E4 currently, but these runs were smooth asf), B: Captain, Commando, C: Engineer, REX, D: Chef, There's a lot to say about every survivor though. Everything in A-tier might aswell be S if you know how to macro well, and everything in B gets rewarded substantially with that aswell but requires you to be more on your toes. The only reason I feel Engineer is below Captain is just because in speed-deprived runs, Captain has more things to make up for the "lack of defense" in comparison. REX isn't too bad either but the item priorities its good at are harder to come by and its annoying its viability is cut in E8. REX IS good even in E8, but he's the only character where good itemization decisions don't always grant the win, and for that, he's lower on the list for me than the others (honestly if he can use his other kit in E8, I think he'd just be balanced...I ought to try a mod for that if there are any) Would say that my list would be quite different if it weren't for the fact I play Eclipse a ton though. Also dependancies differ per person. Mul-T's verticality never has been a great issue for me because the one map where it matters a lot is Scorched Acres, and he has the nailgun-tech to compensate. But I can also see why it would be the reason why he's where he is on the list. That, and multiplayer Eclipse runs are also quite a different pack of ordeal which might also have had some influence on my list (mainly Engy, probably). In the end though, the game is cool and one should totally play what they want. Eclipse or not, its all viable.

i love playing captain but the amount of runs ive done where i die to mithrix because i get a single goat hoof and no other mobility meaning there is like no way for me to dodge mithrix well

One thing... Engineer is broken As fuck. With his static turrets, you can abuse bungus, having 3 to 4 constant healing sourses that work. You can then get one of the red items, cant remember yhe name but they look like black and green tusk (which you need to unlock first) and they send out missile when you "heal" for 10% of your health. You can also stack 2 agis and boom, you've essentially doubled your health. Ive done runs with friends where we pretty much stopped bosses from soawning thanks yo that build. And that was at 170 minutes in game.

You have to be insane to put Commando below Huntress (i played RoR for 427 hours). He has higher dps, more health, low cooldown abilities, op alternatives and can become utterly broken after 1 stack of Purity. And what Huntress has? Low hp, bad dps, long af cooldowns, bad synergies, so-so alternatives. Get your brain out of your ass and use alternatives on Commando. He indeed sucks without them. Same goes about MUL-T, his unlockable special makes him almost invincivle most of the time, while providing double damage. Get 5 Goat's Hoofs, one Hopoo Feather, one Purity and you get the strongest survivor in game.

i haven't played eclipse much, because it makes me wanna lick a cheese grater, but on a normal monsoon run, mercenary is one of the most unkillable survivors there is, especially with artifact of command

This tier list is based and I appreciate hearing one from someone who actually plays and enjoys the game.

Well, Rex was my first character. I used to loop and Rex is an S to your character if you get the right items for example syringe.

i am new to RIsk of Rain, and commando (so far) is my favorite survivor, and i have to hard agree on him being much, much better with alternate unlocks. an issue with Commando is that despite being described as a "jack of all trades" - he isn't one, at all. his primary is alright, his secondary is nigh useless except for the rare, rare occassion that it's skinny projectile hits a bunch of enemies and procs wisps and gasoline a bunch. but it comes down so rarely that you might as well not bother, his special ability is just his primary fire, but better. due to his Kit commando is practically forced to use very speccific items and practically the only way to play him viably is via tri-tip daggers. his synergy with total damage items is obviously horrible, so he is limited to basically base damage items like gasoline. also his dive might as well just do nothing. he is practically locked to "Death by a thousand cuts" playstyle. but once you unlock his alt skills - he actually starts to resemble a "jack of all trades" more. firstly, his Phase blast is absolutely wonderful and saves plenty of time, including making him just more fun. it becomes actually worthwile to use backup mags on Commando, since his secondary is just captain's primary(which is pretty good, i think). on top of also being surprised that it's actually... decent with focus crystals? even if it isn't a singular big hit, it's still basically 40% increase for 8 pellets. and it was pretty pleasant to just slide by an enemy, unload into them, and see them explode. higher damage also slightly helps with items that are based on total damage. his grenade is just a nice stand-in if you somehow missed phase round. again helping commando actually make use of items. 700% is kinda alright. very spammable, has a low chance of proccing stuff like stickies and atg's to decent effect, fun to use, and i guess you could utilize crowbars more with it. even if it compromises ability to stack more and more bleed and stuff, i kinda prefer it(even if it's still only 700% compared to Loader's 2700%, Captain's triple thousands, etc.) . Commando by default is very dissatisfying to use given how you just stay far away and plink away at enemies by stacking bleed on them. he is nigh useless without tri-tips and he takes forever to kill things even if he progressivelly gets deadlier due to bleed stacking. but the sheer amount of time it takes to do that is just not worth it. Commando with unlocks actually lets you play him without praying for very speccific items, and lets you generally make some sort of use out of items you find. phase blast alone deals enough damage speccifically up close, to actually encourage getting in close to the enemy and getting those sweet, sweet numbers.

Bird woman main here, shes literally unplayable in eclipse 8 and above, but outside of that, you are unironically, no exageration immortal , since you stay outside of stride for only like, 2 seconds if you stack a couple of strides and get some cooldown reduction, both of which arent really that hard to get, pair that with a very solid kit, included with her debuff wich is also very good, shes pretty busted. But whatever, ror2 is an extremelly balanced game, every character is viable, rex included as long as you dont play eclipse 8. Cool tierlist 👍

Would this list change much for monsoon? It felt weird hearing halfway through that this was based on eclipse.

I would honestly put Heretic at the bottom of broken, and Railgunner at the top of broken. Heretic's special is one of the best specials in the game, especially when used with the secondary with proper timing. Its damage can be stacked to crazy amounts, and with bands you'll be able to one shot pretty much any boss with just 20 stacks of ruin. Railgunner is loader but better if you can bomb jump efficiently. It can pillar skip without any items, its cryocharge can execute ANY enemy early, its specials are the only skills in the game with a >1 proc coefficient (supercharge has 3, cryocharge has 1.5), and its primary is effectively a jetpack with enough attack speed. oh also guaranteed crits too i guess

Wow is that a tier list that doesnt trash on commando for no reason ? Like I know he is not the strongest by far, but he still is very viable with proc items, I would even say he is best with proc items. And I agree with most placement on the list, I honestly feel that Voidmando a bit weaker then Loader and Railgunner. Also characters with no mobility are killing me, just can't be concicent without some movement. (I mainly play Bandit, Commando and Merc, so everytime I play someone who cant save himself from fall I act suprised)

I like mul-T. Easy tank build which isnt the best strategy, but its pretty fun

I'm shit at games that require aiming so I exclusively play huntress with a hunderd crit glasses. Also I can't complain about the rear view.

Only part I don't agree is Mercenary not being broken. With right items and build you can literally turn a melee character into a character that I like to call "Walking cane" You don't attack You don't use skills You don't jump You walk and "things" cease to exist You just need a lysate and a few fuel cells just in case for the bosses. Immortality goes hard.

Since you don't run lunar items you missed out on some amazing ways to utilize survivors like merc and commando with zero cool down they are so fun to play and almost untouchable.

Acrid is my favorite survivor and in my opinion the strongest out of the base game survivors. In reality he's a ranged survivor with the best movement in the game and melee is an option. Railgunner is the best survivor in the game and void fiend is the 3rd best. If you get a lot of movement items he's probably the most broken survivor, but he starts off so slow that if you have bad RNG it's hard to beat an eclipse with him. Controversially I think Rex is the 4th best survivor in the game up until the point you get to eclipse 8 where he just breaks. Think about it, if the devs made it so that the self damage he deals didn't permanently lower his health he would be so much higher.

If we assume we are really good at all chars, arti and acrid go to broken tier, cause they can stay out of danger and shred everything. Acrid doesn't even need items. Captain is almost immortal with drones(no projectiles lul), can stunlock whole stages with beacons and deal 40000% DAMAGE!!(100 player difficulty is possible only thanks to him), so pretty broken too if you can manage early game, mul-t has double rebar which is railgunner at home(you also have lots hp, easy targeting and two active items on top of that) and also double-nailgun, mercenary needs 1 purity for infinite immunity frames, engy has wallhacks, heretic is just broken strong(x1.5 damage, x4hp and great kit), REX is broken in not eclipse. Only bandit, huntress and commando are "just good". So my tier list would have had only 2 tiers lul

How can you put loader in Broken when you say melee survivors are at a disadvantage? They have less range than merc (basically gotta be point blank to hit anything) and i think Merc has better movement than her too, you really should switch those placements fir those 2 characters Edit but that's just me

honestly Mul-T is really broken with dual miniguns and just free 40% damage reduction in the mode. although it does get a little bit boring after a while just pressing R and then holding M1+M2 and watching as everything dies

Engineer to me is the most broken character literally you just place your turret and you can focus on dodging let your turret do the work. Furthermore it is easy to cheese Mithrix with engineer lmao

I thoroughly enjoyed this video, thank you dor sharing your thoughts. With 900 hours in this game though, a handful of the positions did bother me (I won't say my subjective opinions, just some tech or skills you may have missed). Acrid's Blight kills enemies. It is objectively better than Poison and could easily bump his score up. In addition, he's the only one of three survivors with built-in Pillar Skips, captain and loader being the others. I wonder if you not using lunars may have tilted your scales, as Benthic Bloom and Gesture of the Drowned both radically remake character builds. The fact that Mu-T can hold TWO equipments is absolutely busted, you don't need anything other than two capacitators and some fuel cells to win with him. I'd also make an argument that Heretic is one of the most busted survivors (see Disputed Origin's video). Negative healing, synergized lunars, and Thunderclap easily make it more busted than Loader. You have a built-in janky collapse just built into your kit! Alas, I digress. I enjoyed hearing your perspective and appreciate the content!

Power mode mul-t is broken imo. Ya the movement is trash but being super tanky is a huge win. Can carry early, mid, or late game. Give him a few mocha, syringe, and goat hooves and your good to go

Played risk of rain for 400 hours and ranks Rex as F? Rex is incredibly broken if you know how to use him.. he’s not for everyone because Rex has a very unique playstyle based on using your health to attack and gaining it all back from his attacks. He is slower than most survivors but Rex has some of the best damage output early on in the game and has potential to be even more powerful later if you build him properly. Like I said though Rex isn’t for everyone especially if you get hit a lot

In terms of eclipse 8 the only character i havent done is engi, cause playing him is pure torture when i main huntress merc and loader by far the most. Also hope the merc footage was yours, finally a based eviscerate enjoyer. Slicing Winds is cringe.

Rex is TRASH ????? He is the only ONE able to HEAL ITSELF !!!!!!!! And even it's own TEAM o_O (It needs to replace its basics skill however) ! I made my best run with it, when I was dying with the other ones. And, with the Artifact of Command (The one which make you choose your items), it's clearly the most broken of all.
