@Tinkeringbear That's me! I used to be DreamWhale then I blew that channel so now I am Dropped Pie. I'm working on stuff, it's gonna be big okay I'll stop self promoting on Casp' channel now kkkkkkkkkk
I'm a firm believer that romhacks bring new life to games. Things as repetitive as pokemon or as old as the SNES can become more playable, readable or even whole new experiences. I love it
true. i even enjoyed simple romhacks like fate/extra that simply include in battle subtitle just so i could truly understand what kind of slurs or insults the servants throw at each other during battle
I'd like to thank Tantecles for complaining about Casp to his community and somehow ending in my feed...cause now i know about Casp and have more hours of funny content to watch. :3c
Hey, dude. So I don’t want to tell you how to make your content, but I do feel like I need to say that when you said “that’s f***ing g*y” at 0:18 , it made me feel sad. I experience a ton of homophobia in my comments section already, and to see a colleague use the word g*y pejoratively right at the beginning of the video was disheartening. Again, I’m not going to tell you how to make your videos, but sometimes a word like “stupid” can be substituted for “g*y”, and that substitution won't make g*y people feel bad about their identities.
I appreciate the comment, brother. I always expect to get a few of these whenever I go off-script, everyone's got their own tastes and likes/dislikes and whatever, and I'd rather you not pull your punches to protect my feelings, which is why I don't either. I like to stay as authentic as possible, for better or worse. I've got nothing against anyone, I try to avoid social and political crap, I'm not out to make people have a bad time, I try to do the opposite, and say stupid shit to get a rise. Now, I think you've misinterpreted what I was saying, I wasn't using 'gay' as a pejorative necessarily, though I guess that's open to interpretation. I was using it as a way to say that I did 'too much' or that I went a bit over the top, I'm pretty liberal with my language use, and try to push it as much as I can, which leads to all sorts of questionable statements. What I meant was certainly not synonymous with "stupid" or "lame", which are words I'd rarely, or never use, and if they were appropriate, I certainly would've picked them. I've seen people say that words which demean someone for their scholarly aptitude such as "stupid" and "lame" are offensive but that's a rabbit hole I want to stay well away from. You can't please everyone, particularly when it comes to word choice on the internet, so the only person I try to please is myself, as that's the only thing I know I can achieve... Sometimes. I always tell people that if they can hear it, and ignore it if they don't like it, they're more than welcome here, but if it's a bit much for them, that's on them, and they're not obliged to watch my stuff, or pretend to like it. I won't hold it against you, and I encourage you to to be your authentic self in that respect. But I do always stress that there's never any negative intent behind the stupid shit I say... Unless it's directed toward video games, which is where I want to keep the focus. I hope I've done a good job explaining where I'm coming from. You're a cool guy, don't let the internet get you down, reality is already brutal, the internet's for fun. Again, appreciate it, brother.
@@Caspicum I came here to just see the context and try and better understand things and I just wanted to throw my two cents into the ring as just another perspective that you have on why words really do matter in what you say and how you say it. First and foremost, I'm not a special snowflake who is so offended by that phrase. Honestly, I'm kind of numb to it because, probably like you, I grew up during the time where that phrase was used ALL THE TIME. That said, I also grew up in a small conservative town that at my high school, there were 3 out gay kids, and I was one of them. Before I came out though, I had a lot of internalized homophobia against myself and others because, Well if everyone is saying, "That's so gay" to indicate how bad or stupid something is, then being gay must be stupid and/or bad, and I don't want to be that way. So it took a while for me to come to terms with myself and others because I didn't want to be "Stupid/bad". Obviously I've grown from it and really, you're allowed to say what you want, but as a content creator that will probably include younger people who are going to be going through the same thing, it's going to come off different to someone who looks up to you saying, "That's so gay" to indicate something is stupid, and now that thought is more in their head, because you hold a more influential part in their brain. Now they think someone they look up to thinks their sexuality is "Stupid/bad" which I don't think is what you're trying to go for, you just used words you're familiar with, and we all do it. I think the next issue I have with this is, well if you don't like it, ignore it, and right now we're in such a political landscape now where the LGBTQIA+ community is consistently under attack politically and personally. People are being killed, kids are being taken away from their families because they're even suspected being LGBTQIA+, etc. The comment is really more of a punching down type of comment that, again, is going to influence give people the wrong impression of you, that you do not like or want LGBTQIA+ follower, because you can't see the potential harm your comment can make, and are really just doubling down from a very entitled place of, "well if you don't like it, leave. " Which, if that's the message you want people to take, then you should just explicitly say that, instead of doubling down saying it's a them problem, and that their questions is stupid. It's just alienating and honestly kind of rude when really these people who are people who liked your videos are watching this unfold in the comments and are going to be turned off from you and your videos because you don't want to see how your actions and words can affect people. Just food for thought and trying to come to this as someone who has had to explain to many of their friends (Because they used this phrase a lot in high school) why this phrase should just not be a thing anymore. Just say somethings is silly. Or stupid. Or better way, say it's so hetero! That way you're talking about yourself and the majority, not the minority.
you didn't need to justify yourself @caspi chan. you wrote to much....summarize "im sorry YOU interpreted this way, this was not what I mean to imply, keep enjoying my content it helps ME" now just imagen if we get something you care and twisted like you did your slang....oh don't worry about that kid. keep making great content. now let's me get out if the 1970.....oh....not much has changed sigh. 💋 I hope this helps with the mercurial youtube algorithm you all attached to...I know you need this......I will be helping a lot, you do need the interactivity you said it right there and I don't mind the slang nature.....provided then....when is reciprocal you dont mind either 😉
Just wanna say that I have nothing against any political or social group, everyone is welcome here if they can take a little banter. I don't like to walk on egg shells, so if people want to get uppity about the words I use, or how I phrase things, that's on them, they're welcome to voice their opinion and are free to disassociate, but I will never curtail what I say to give anyone special treatment, as I'd never expect anyone to do for me. I don't feel like babying a bunch of adults on the internet. It's not my place to demand that people do or don't talk about specific things, I encourage everyone to be as authentic as they choose, and to not let others fit them into a box, linguistically or otherwise. I still appreciate your input though.
goodness, don't worry about babying anyone you big strong handsome gamer youtuber you......I want you to remain the same....it validates something special in you...im hoping to interact with your algorithm. And you want that right you need it.
If you like Yugioh, you should check out the recently released translation patch (done by me) for the GBC game Yugioh Monster Capsule GB. The game is part TRPG, part Pokemon, part JRPG, part... kinda mediocre to be completely honest. I get that a translation patch isn't a more traditional romhack in the vein of the ones in this video, but I figure it's close enough to justify shilling it lol. Wait no, I mean, I'm mostly commenting for the algorithm. Yeah, that's it. I'm kind of like a saint or something if you think about it in those terms. In terms of real romhack suggestions, there's a Pokemon TCG romhack called Pokemon TCG Neo that replaces the cards with Gen 2 cards. It's pretty sweet if you're into that sort of thing.
I actually briefly played that in a recent, rapid-fire Gameboy Color binge, but it looks like a better version of that weird PS2 game, so I wanna go back and give it a proper, thorough play. GBC games are my weakness, so I appreciate the shilling. Also, I love the Pokemon TCG but both games are pretty easy, so I'm down to play that as well. Thanks for the recommendations and the translation/modding work, my friend.
I'll literally NEVER play a vanilla pokemon game ever again. For basically each game, theres a rom hack counterpart that gives it something that just makes it more fun for me.
That's where I'm at. The fans understand what made the first run of games so enjoyable, and they do a way better job capturing that experience for people of a like mind.
I did a replay through of duelists of the roses a few years back, wanting to prod at the weird complicated systems I never did as a kid. One of clovis' videos showed me how much of an awful time consuming trap it was; I cried out to myself "if only some one would just give this like, a 10x exp multiplier." then, a few months ago i find redux and go "wait! I know you!" god, to get better leveling plus so much more? hell yeah.
Hey that's my romhack! I'm glad you enjoyed it that much, have you beaten it at this point? And if so, what was your final team? And ofc, thanks for the shoutout :)
I ended up grabbing Rest on the SS Anne, then got Awakenings and the game became way less... leech seedy until about Cinnabar, where all I had was a Venusaur with Rest, Razor Leaf, Sleep Powder, and Cut to fight Blaine. I'm currently grinding up a Snorlax who comes with Rest and I'm gonna tank the rest with him and Venusaur. Having the Pokeflute also saved a bit of scrap, but man the song takes so long. I was thinking of training up a Lapras as well, but single-use TMs mean he can't rest, so it becomes a bit trickier. Amazing rom hack though, my friend. I will say, catching 5 Meowths just outside of Cerulean and farming items is a very OP strat. The creativity required here is insane, you've turned Pokemon into a puzzle game.
Having a single stat responsible for everything is honestly very DBZ. People are just "stronger" the vast majority of the time. Not faster, or more skilled, just arbitrarily "stronger". In the words of Plague Of Gripes, their "number is bigger".
That's indeed true, with sone exceptions. Power levels may have been intended to make the bad guys look arrogant, but note how the heroes always had to boost their levels to win.
It's not something you see in RPGs often, so I dig it, but you're right, it's the most DBZ thing you could do for an RPG. Even to the point where like 6 games all up use that same system, where BP dictates pretty much everything. I find I'm always hyper-focused on one stat when I'm playing RPGs, my warriors and melee dudes Str, my brick walls and their Vitality or Stamina, and my mages Mag, so doing that universally makes sense right?
The first four Zelda games all have Redux mods that changes things to add more quality of life things. I suggest all of them for the same reason you recommended the Link's Awakening Redux. You can even choose what things you want to add or not bother with in the hack. For example you said you hated the text in the rom hack. I'm pretty sure you can choose all of the changes made except for the changed text.
The unworking designs patch is the version of alundra I've been doing my first playthrough on, the game's great and overlooking the localization it has very few problems (moslty depth perception related but that might just be me lmao)
It's honestly pretty good! I remember getting filtered on the first big boss in the vanilla version, but I got very far in this one without exploiting broken spells. Would recommend!
Can you make the full list of RPG romhack definitives or do I have to do it? I don't make vids about gaming so you're better off doing it. Except when I do stuff I do it comprehensively, I will get all 134 of them or whatever without missing anything.
"hey guys it's romhackguy764! just kidding" "...so anyway, here's Raddits pregnant" ah yes, I'm so happy I tuned in a cultured Raddits enjoyer, rather than a rom hack weeb
Duelist of the Roses game! I depended so heavily on that game manual, but then my sister gave a kid the game and then THESE KIDS ALWAYS, ALWAYS, NEVER FAIL TO KEEP THE MANUAL OR LOSE IT AND NEVER RETURN IT WITH THE GAME! Oh well.
MY TRAP WORKED AND YOU FELL RIGHT IN TO IT. bro i saw your duelist video in my feed a couple weeks back and just completely forgot to watch it. i got some comfy viewing tonight
Just as much as I don't want games made easier, I also don't really want them to be made harder my some schmucks who think they know better than the creator of the game. That's what romhacks are for, because they're personified by some schmucks who think they know better than the creators of the game, and sometimes, they may even be right.
It's a touch balance, hey. Games often don't release 'perfect' and you could say that for 99.9% of retro games, something could be changed to make it better, but where's the line, and who is the authority? Seems to me like you've gotta try your best to make it the best product you can, and pray that it ends up the best version of itself. I'd say there's no formula, but it's literally all formulae
the link's awakening romhack sounds less like a hack and more like something the game desperately needed because fuck that rock/jar textbox shit good god
Ir you have a n64 emulator I REALLY recommend to see Super Smash Bros Remix. Awesome hack to the level of have competitions with this game. Double the number of characters, multiply the number of stages and custom mechanics both from Melee as the recent games.
I owned Alundra back in the day. I would power through, get stuck in a puzzle. Take a break for weeks, come back, solve it. Power through, get stuck on a puzzle, take a break for weeks etc etc. Eventually I raised a castle out of a lake, seemed sorta end gamey. But I couldn't figure out how to get inside. Eventually I moved on, never completing the game and it bugs me.
@@Caspicum I hired that in high school and was disgusted. Tried it again on emulator years later and appreciated the knock off Astro Boy thing it had going, but failed to find fun in the actual gameplay.
I would love Duelist of the Roses to get a sequel with new cards! Even fanmade because Konami sucks I meant to play Pokemon Clover eventually (It got a recent Update too) The game has a lot of actually COOL designed mons and amazing soundtrack! But I'm also aware that it's super challenging and not all Mons are Viable for End and Post Game
I've never dabbled into romhacks but I know there are "hard mode" roms for Legend of Dragoon and Grandia (1). But I know those types of hacks can be so hit and miss
I'd be cautious with a Dragoon hard type. I wonder if it's harder than the Japanese version or if it's just a stat-swap? I may have to look into this. I've played a few that were bad, and you can tell immediately tell. The Suikoden hard type was great, but there was a Breath of Fire 3 one that seemed to throw too much new crap at you, and the Suikoden 2 one didn't have a nice, gradual progression curve like the first game. Definitely worth at least trying, I'd say.
POKEMON CLOVER HAS ITS OWN SPINOFFS AS WELL POKEMON PERIWINKLE, POKEMON LET'S GO BLOBBOS, POKEMON ULTRA FIRE RED XD, CLOVERMON HUNTER, AND BALLOOFANG FIGHT WE'RE WORKING ON THE SEQUEL DUBSCLOVER USING THE HGSS ENGINE TOO :^)
oh fug bro that's a lot, I'll have to go through and check them out. wait let me get on your level. I APPRECIATE THE EFFORT YOU'RE PUTTING IN. GODSPEED, BROTHER.
@@Caspicum Glad you're prepared to handle this one. Jokes aside though your videos are really good, your newer stuff especially is good, not obnoxious and genuinely funny so I appreciate the videos.
I've played a couple, really got into the FE8(?) randomizer but I don't feel like I know enough about FE to make any educated statements on it. That may change, and I'm always looking for new, old school FE games and hacks, but I am just enjoying them casually for now.
Actually, that's the Fusion game, man I'm dumb I should read better. Yeah, I played it a lot but could never settle on the fusions and got a bit overwhelmed. Amazing concept though, and very well executed.
Yeah, I would love a sequel but anything they do now will be so safe and well-designed, it won't capture the gross jank that made the original so unique. Still, I'm open for more games in this style. If they crank out more than a few, we'll eventually get one that really nails it... I hope
I personally really dislike Clover for... obvious reasons... but I can't deny that it seems to be well-made (And the fact that the game just straight-up throws you in jail if you use cheats is pretty damn funny). That being said, I could go on for days about Pokémon hacks I like a lot (Orange, Prism, and Emerald Rogue being good examples).
I've played a good couple, Orange was great, you're 100% right about that, but after the initial burst of excitement, they all end up feeling like a core Pokemon game again, which is great if that's what you're after. That's why Clover was like a kick to the chest, because it was so extreme and unashamed in what it was trying to do, that I'm gonna remember it more than another vanilla romhack. Honestly, I think it's ruined Pokemon for me as a concept, which is fine, I should probably get back to Digimon anyway...
Pokemon Clover is about what I'd usually expect from other 4chan projects that don't go as hard with all the... well everything. The sprites are cute but man would I never play anything with an exploding arab joke. I could take Snoot Game's dumb shit, but not that. I wish more Poke-romhacks went as wild though. I know there's a mystery dungeon rabbit hole, that'd be fun.
nah, man you could definitely do it. I wouldn't think they're endorsing anything, it's just playing off stereotypes. You do you, but Clover is special. I defo agree with romhacks being a bit less tasteful, it's such a memorable experience.
I'm down for this, and will investigate. Advance is one of those games I always wanted to love as much as the OG, but certain things make me hate it. What can I say? I'm a bit of an anarchist. ty for the recommendation.
@@Caspicumam the opposite, I find advance to be the better game (gameplay wise at least) tactics just frustrate me with how boring it is, for a game that has tactics in it name it surely lacks it, am currently at limberry castle, and am hating it with how wildly unbalanced and unfair it get (F**k holy magic) sometimes.
I was never a rom hacking guy until I played Pokemon Unbound. The story can be a little cringey but the battles can be hard enough that it makes me want to beat my children
5:41 This is so beyond cursed, but it's still hilarious. Also, can confirm that Dark Dawn is beatable with items only, but only if you allow yourself to use unarmed basic attacks for the two early mandatory boss fights, and if you don't use items to farm items. Since you can't buy attack items. I'd say it would be acceptable to hack the game to allow purchasing them, as grinding for them in large quantities is PAINFUL.
Working Designs' work being bad enough to hack new translations must be a new take. Working Designs was awesome for localizing all these niche games, yeah they were overbearing with some pop culture references and some unfunny NPC dialog, but without their work, Lunar and Magic Knight Rayearth would have been stuck in Japan until fan translation romhacks were widespread in the late 2000s and early 2010s, hell more obscure stuff *like* Rayearth probably still wouldn't be translated like how Wachenroder took forever to get a translation and Princess Crown is STILL being translated.
It's not really a new take but every time some company trashes a localization this game always gets brought up as the first example of it. Localizations getting worse over time is probably what motivated the retranslation.
I appreciate what Working Designs did for sure, I wouldn't be able to have done an entire Arc the Lad series without their early efforts, and the touch-ups they did to Arcs 1 and 2 are fantastic. Come Arc 3, I felt their translations weighing heavily though, some dude mentioned crack at one point, and it's like, does crack exist in Arc 3's world? Very strange translation for an equally strange game. Still though, being able to play it in the first place with a decent enough translation means they've got my vote.
Because I didn't want to call it stupid. What a stupid question. This circlejerk feels coordinated based on how fast you guys are replying to one another. Please don't come here and language police me, my brothers. I hate being told what to say and how to think, it's very cult-like. If you don't like what I say, and can't just ignore it, you're free to not watch, I'm fine with that. I'm not gonna change how I function based on a few angry people in a comment section, sorry.
