@@TheNerdyFlutist As I listen to the song, even on TNG. It always had that old sad Scottish/Irish feel to it.... I hear it and half expect to see the green grass or a cliff over looking some water... A real peaceful kind of feel.

The Inner Light is a brutal, beautiful episode. I think part of the impact was how broken Picard became at the end and how he had nobody to share his experience with.

Wow, you are a great musician in my opinion! I remember the TNG episode, where Picard always is interrupted, while trying to play a flute and also on the planet when he plays a nice litte melody! I didn' t watch Star Trek Picard yet, and the music you play is very very nice! You don't just play the notes, you feel each of them! So music comes to life. Excellent. Most excellent. I listened to this with a good set of headphones. What sheer pleasure this was to listen to. The Picard theme also had some variations on the TNG theme. I was really disappointed in what they did with the theme in season 2.

Sorry, I just realized I never replied to your comment! It is a Clarke whistle, not sure what the exact model is because I bought it secondhand. Hope that helps! Anyone else love Inner Light but hate Lessons? The way she patronizes Picard when they play together is so cringy. Anyway, random thoughts. Also, I’m nerding out on all the cross references in Picard back to the OG stuff - so good.

I actually really enjoy Lessons but I can see where you're coming from. It always just struck me as being part of her personality, she's a very strong extrovert whereas Picard is a huge introvert. I actually kind of like that she's the first person who flips the script on Picard and his comfort with being distantly in control of everything. Improvisation in music is very vulnerable, so I completely believe the dynamic in that scene in his quarters is genuine. I was just like him when I was first learning how to improvise haha.

I love what you did, but keep in mind you need a range of sound (high and low volume) that was not ok, with your level of ability you should know that. Perhaps you don't know how to play for a microphone? You played that lovely song which is supposed to be soft, gentle, relaxed like you were doing a solo on a football field? Try to do it again at a lower level, try to relax, instead of military formalism, try to slow it down and put some love into it. I don't want to sound like I am complaining - I think the music is GREAT, I think your interpretation is wonderful and interesting. Just stop the brainy bad ass overzealous ear pincher. This is a soft and gental song.

Please present your credentials and qualifications to starfleet brass, or have a seat sir. If you actually knew anything about the instrument you are criticizing you would know it naturally projects at a high volume due to its register. The inner light. Such a profoundly life altering episode. The man lived a LIFETIME, fell in love, married, had children, lost his WIFE, and then just poof. Back to the ship. Best episode ever

Why was it the best episode ever? As far as I'm concerned, it was a terrible, non-consensual assault on Picard. He never asked to be exposed to this and was taken by force. Plus, to top it off, the society he was unwillingly exposed to was boring as fuck (it seriously was, there's no argument) and was thankfully never referenced again for the reminder of the series, aside from one or two episodes where Picard played the flute in passing. And the aging make-up effects have aged HORRIBLY. I have no idea whosoever why The Inner Light is so well-regarded. It's complete trash. I realize this is an unpopular take, awaiting butthurt Trekkies in 3...2...1... NOTE: The Nerdy Flutist's playing was very nice, however. No complaints there.

Wonderful. Tears are rolling down while listening to this beautiful piece. I - like many others I assume ☺️- am a big fan of this episode of TNG, especially the music. I can’t watch the episode or listen to the music without crying. There are only two other pieces of music, both for me are deeply related to the passing of my dad some thirty years ago that have the same instantaneous effect. Thx for creating and sharing this with us. ☺️☺️☺️

For me, this is life, melodious and bright symbolizing youth and curiosity, later matures in to struggle and loss, while keeping hints of optimism, then the weight of impending doom, and add it to being able to still feel that life and the scars of the Borg, the truest moment is in Picard when talking to 7 if he regained all of his humanity? The expression? And an affirmative NO, it is life and regardless of the ups and downs there is a beauty in it. Thank you

This is just a Clarke pennywhistle, it’s not a replica. I do know of a maker on Etsy that sells a playable replica, I’ve been meaning to check it out.

PS The video I watched immediately before this was featured a prop replica which is not playable. It is battery powered and the "Inner Light" tune is played from a chip in the whistle case. Lists at $280!
