The best way to deal with this kind of damage is to get a dremel and carve out the damaged part with a griding point. I've done it 3 times and it removed shorts from boards with 12+ layers successfully. I'm not a professional, just an amateur doing some repairs, but I've developed this very nice technique :)
Exactly I had to wait and work I can't imagine I have never seen a kid do something like this my daughter might misplace a game or controller but she would never cause her life to not include Fortnite or roblox
How somebody manages to damage a console this much is actually impressive. I honestly don’t think I could do that much damage if I tried to. The thing looks like it’s been thrown out of a block of flats
I don't know if it's crazy what I'm going to say, but I've seen many console mods where they are cut to make portable consoles (wii portable) if the problem is that the layers are in contact due to the blow, it would not be logical, use a dremel ? You can do a clean cut with a dremel, I think it's a better idea than using a cardboard cutter and scraping, a millimeter with a good cutting tool could solve the joining of layers. If I were you, I would try it, the motherboard is already dead, and it would be an interesting video, if not crazy.
I’ve got a nephew that has been using Xbox’s for a lot long than he should be & he has destroyed a hell of a lot of them due to ADHD even at 5yrs old he had destroyed two Xbox 360’s and he had been thru a lot of Xbox 1’s so yes a child could do it.
I didn't think of that to be honest. Disappointing from me considering I have a child with autism so I should have probably taken that into account. Thanks for pointing that out to me bud
How dare you! How dare you waste 39 minutes of my life waiting for a repair that never appeared! Seriously, whoever did that must be a psychopath. That’s been used like a football. I hope they buy a new one with your money and it blows up on them, 1 day out of warranty. Keep up the good work pal.
You called it quits a bit to fast on this one. You should ignore that damage along the edge. You only find ground in the edges of the board and for a good reason I won’t get into. Think about it, there is no point to have to run any line towards the edge of the board.
That had to be hit several times with a hammer,no way did a controller do that damage .! Me thinks the kid was spending to much time gaming and his father has smashed his console .!
The damaged edge has lots of holes, these are via stitching and connect the ground planes together, because of the hole spacing, no other tracks run along the edge, it looks worse than it is but will not cause any issues.
I thnk the same. The issue is not the edge damage but some chip that got knocked out probably. Look for any missing smd resistor or cap. The RAM reflow was a good idea, keep looking a bit more if possible within a reasonable timeframe of course. Cheers from Switzerland.
I'm sorry but what is wrong with people, can't they look after anything with care? These things are expensive, some of us spent years waiting to get one during the chip shortage and pandemic issues. Especially considering the scalping.
my parents wouldn't even buy me my first colour tv, so was stuck with a black and white tv until I could get a paper round, so I was 14 before I got my first colour tv. so is the kid spoiled? the answer is a definate yes. can a child do that much damage to an xbox? no, not the amount of force that the front housing has taken. it would have to be an adult. the board looks like after the initial hit with the controller then he console hit the floor or something, so probably be looking for a needle in a haystack situation, and probably be all chips ruined, I don't think the seller is being honest at all. either that or flipping products purchased for cheap, then making up a cover story to try making it sound believeable, and the fact they knew the child had done the same thing? would you really spend quite a few hundred pound on a brand new console? I think not. maybe it was my up bringing, but I looked after everything. while my brother destroyed everything he had. ok so my stuff might have been taken apart to find out how stuff was made, but it wasn't damaged to a none repairable state, but my brother has a temper, but somehow he only went through joysticks, and keyboards. but weren't as badly damaged as this. it taken one heck of a good throw. ok so stuff isn't made like it was back in the 70's and 80's. but still a lot of damage for a kid to do.
I have never thrown a controller out of anger.I don't see the point in getting even more angry lol. That damage is heavy, how could a controller hitting the outside damage the board that much?.
Even as a "spoiled" child I didn't have any thoughts on smashing controllers, consoles over the anger of my inability to finish the task/level/boss... I've still got my PS2 and PS3 going strong as new. Have been angry, but the things i did was sweating af and doing facepalms all day long.
If you get the chance can you try a southbridge motherboard swap between two working working series X's? Make sure they are on the same dashboard version to rule out any version incompatibilities.
I think all those layers are ground round the edge anyway, there's lots of vias all round the outside edge so there's no way they would have other traces dodging between them.
Some children do not deserve nice things, maybe the child has a condition, but their are loads of You Tube videos of spoilt brats destroying consoles due to rage quitting. I got my Series X as a present from money I got from ‘several’ birthdays and Christmas’s, and it is my favourite cherished piece of tech.
Using both boards to get one working the main thing is you will get most of you money back bud. have you got the headphone jack for your rode wireless go yet would be nice to see you do a video on it.
Yeah definitely mate, even though that board is very corroded it's still got some usable parts on it. I have got them yeah, I'll get around to doing the repair ASAP for a video 😁
I thought this too. I would very much doubt any layout design engineer would use the area between the emc gnd stitching via for signal tracks, the only other possibility would be a power plane. Typically the power plane would be 0.5mm from the pcb edge, taking a dremel around the edge may remove any short. Test for a power / gnd first though. I would have thought the ram / apu would need reflowed though.
Hi Denis, yeah this is true, my opinion is that the area of the physical damage is probably just power planes. I doubt there will be any signal tracks in this area, as the gnd stitching vias in this area make it I efficient for signal connections. I suspect the power plane is shorting to the gnd plane in the damaged area. A quick test for power / gnd would take seconds. If there is a short, my idea was to dremel the damaged area and remove any z axis copper burrs.
@@TheCod3r it is a very hard game if you aren't cheating, the xbox looks like they could'nt win ;p replying about the elden ring game that you did'nt know about
Hello 👋 mate...sorry I was MIA...I think it was a man boy that did that 😆 🤣 😂 still so enjoy your videos 📹 😉 please keep them coming 🙏 😉 and here to help get your videos 📹 😉 out to everyone to enjoy 😉 😀 cheers mate 👍 👌 😀
Hi cod3r I have watched many of your videos I have brought a Xbox series X with a no turn on problem I think I have found the problem with one of the MOSFETs could you point me in the right direct so I can buy one please thanks a lot keep up the good work I enjoy your videos
Must've been playing Fifa. Edit: My sister is a good Mum, but the 3yo has worked out that if she just annoys my sister enough, she'll give in. Anything for 5 minutes peace!
Hi, Why do you pay a lot of money for a broken games console? When you could get a cheaper one to fix. And sell it for more money than you paid. As your only paying for scrap as the game consoles are not working. I would say they are paperweights.
Am 100% way you some people spoil their kids to much I can tell you something if my kid done that they would b getting their arse kicked last console they would own
Man it's ridiculous how some people destroy there property (kid or adult) i treat my ps5 & xbox series x like there gold cause there hard to find and even cover them when i don't play them to protect them from dust 😅
Shows how stupid and immature with games don't they realize the stuff they break costs money and there hard to come by depending on where you are doesn't surprise me though lots of dummies out there
I'm a sub. I have an idea for a giveaway. You could fix broken consoles and give one away. Giveaways boosts subscribers. Also, I can be your first and I'm cheap and easy...I'm not gonna ask for the new hardware. I want last gen Xbox one X. I just wanna play Gears Of War.
Idc what it looks like as long as it's solid internally and works like a dream and has heat sinks and good paste. Wouldn't need too much storage space cause literally I just wanna play the Gears Games and Maybe a Halo game and one other game...Just saying if I happen to be selected for a giveaway like that
I would not do that kind of damage to my PS5 nor my PS4, I use the PS5 more than the PS4 which hasn't been turned on in over a year since I upgraded to the PS5 in March last year...
You may think this two-board design is made to accommodate the external form factor they had in mind, but you're wrong. It was made specifically to annoy anyone trying to disassemble and reassemble one of these.
How dare you! How dare you waste 39 minutes of my life waiting for a repair that never appeared! 😂 Seriously, whoever did that must be a psychopath. That’s been used like a football. I hope they buy a new one with your money and it blows up on them, 1 day out of warranty. Keep up the good work pal.
You can't switch parts out likes boards on these they are tied together this is something which annoyed people from the previous generation of these consoles as well dvd drive for examples faiis you cant do anything about it has to be returned to MS for repair. It's worth selling parts and keeping some for spares you never know may need to replace some bits in future.
It wasn't a kid it was a grown man looking at the damage trying to blame it on a kid like everything else they always blame it on kids even though they are a fully grown adult.
i would remove the apu and any other tied components, then fit them to the apu board from the other machine. then use that to rebuild this xbox and fit it into the other case, you could use the heat sink off the other one too. but you can totally build one machine from 2 its all about which parts match the apu.
