I assume due knew his pistons more then he knew about Yugo parts. Otherwise I'm just thinking, who the hell is out here hot rodding yugos on the regular that the guy just instantly knew the issue.
car guy here! Wiseco is a popular brand for race car pistons, and when building a motor for higher horse power most pistons and connecting rods are made of thicker material to hold up to the power better. thicker material = bigger bore = machine the engine block.
@@dark_tronic8546 a piston doesn't have to be a larger bore to be stronger. The bore is increased mainly so that any wear in the stock bore can be removed without creating excess clearance. It also increases the displacement a bit which is pretty much always desirable in performance engines
@@ivan-Croatian Had a Yugo Coral 55 (1982 i think). One time I missed checking water in the cooler so it happened to have half full radiator. It was overheating, it was summer... so logical solution... Turn on the heater to the max to take away excess heat. Drove it like that for a month :D Finally. topped up the water and it ran like nothing happened. P.S. Car is still alive and running as a helping vehicle on a local sport runway.
My buddy had a Yugo. We were going about 25mph in wet grass on night and hit a telephone pole head on at 15mph. Totalled out the car. The driveline had come out of the transmission and it wouldn't move.
@@roostercogburn7243 My first car was used 1987 Yugo ,i drove it 5 years ,crash it many times but not severely, there was no place i did not drove it ,woods ,pedestrian bridges ,mood ,parks between buildings , back then i was drinking and driving every weekend(then even police did not care, stop me many times and just left me going even i was drunk as hell ) until one night,me and freind and 3 girls in the back ,we were returing from night out totaly drunk and crashed in to a gas station at 40 km/h ,then it was finally totaled ,some people there offer us to tow it before police came so i did it.I wake up 3 PM and my mother was where did you crash the car ,i was like what car ,i did not crash ,i did not even remeber ,and then i go out house and see car in yard destroyed . After that i bought much more expensive car so no more stuns like that
Pretty much, ship of Theseus everything was replaced due to time but at least the car's body is the same lul I wonder if that powerful engine will shake the entire chassis xD
This feels like in games when you really like an off-meta pick but that off-meta pick is so bad that you have to go so out of your way just to get it to *work slightly* and im all here for it. Love the series
My father is a mechanic and I still remember repairing many Yugos. Painting them also. I was mostly washing gearboxes with gasoline. I knew this car inside and out, and we still have spare parts left laying around. You could have bought the whole working car in Serbia for 300$ or less instead of doing all this work! It could have been shipped to you buy a ship. You can still find Yugos in good condition in Serbia if you are interested. Last of them were manufacturing up untill 2001 I believe.
This car is not held together by sheer hopes and dreams anymore at this point, there is the spirit of a slavic grandpa trapped inside of it, too stubborn to go to the afterlife because he's holding on to the last thought of Yugoslavia and that stubbornness of that ghost is holding this thing together.
Literally experienced some PTSD while watching this. During my college years one of my mates owned one of these things and it caused him, and I (being the real car guy of the friend group) endless troubles. I grew to quite literally hate that car. Some of the issues you mentioned in this video caused me hair pulling and yelling while trying to fix things. I wish you the best of luck but I'll state that there's no way the headaches that car will cause you, even as an "unsafe but fun" project, are worth it!
There was an old mechanics joke my grandfather told me about the cheapest way to repair a Yugo 1. Remove Radiator Cap. 2. Push Yugo off of cliff 3. Buy new Yugo 4. Replace Radiator cap
At 17:36 you can see that screwdriver roll off the roof of the car and the engine dies out shortly after, which by clear rules of logic means that screwdriver was the only thing keeping the engine running.
You should really try streaming, fixing/modifying the Yugo It would be very fun to watch a man fixing a old ass nugget car from a country that no longer exist lol
You can tell this is peak car guy content because you have a good looking R32 sitting at the side but you decide to spend thousands of dollars and months of your life trying to fix one of the worst cars of all time and maybe get like 90 hp of an engine made with hopes and dreams. Love to see it!
Yo I just got an ultrasound and found a neck lump too. I got a ball on one of my lymph nodes. The anxiety is pretty bad but the chances it's actually cancer are low. I wish you the best and fuck insurance companies.
dont let these internet cool guyz get to you. My little sister had a similar scare recently, didnt end up being cancer. super stressful, though. Hang in there
Honestly im glad that people in the US are still working on something we made, and actually improving upon the damn thing. The usual thing people do here is swap a 1.3 turbo engine from a fiat uno since its essentially the same engine. I've never actually seen someone upgrade the internals of a yugo outside of the balkans. If you ever need any technical specs on that car i have a workshop manual somewhere. If you want a longer 5th gear you could swap a differential from a 4 speed gearbox into the 5 speed gearbox.
Its genuinely mind blowing how james is putting out better car content than what donut, ideal, hoonigan and every other bought out 'car content' company has been churning out for the past half decade
If you like this kinda content of people fucking with old cars you should watch Garage Time. It’s an Australian man’s channel and he does the most unhinged nonsense with his nuggets
Jameskii is slowly becoming a car channel, but with the most Cursed cars ever. Jokes aside, It's cool seeing what kind of content you are making desperately trying to fix this YUGO and your wallet. But we support you Jameskii, You make good content and I hope you can get enough from this video.
I absolutely despise the type of pallet your parts arrived on. I've never dealt with a weaker plank of wood in my life, yet they keep using it because of how cheap and easy it is to make.
The excitement on Jameskii's face when the engine finally started is so contagious! Congrats on making the most bizarre amalgamation of car parts I've ever seen, and actually getting it to start.
After seconds I already have to comment respectively to contradict: This is definitely NOT THE WORST CAR ever made. That's a provable fact! We bought and drove a used Yugo in Germany about 25 years ago. It's a Fiat license with a really sturdy body made of thick sheet metal. All in all it's definitely a much better car that the Fiat. And that's a fact too!
I'd take the Yugo over any new car offered on the market today, and happily pocket the difference. Don't even particularly like the Yugo, but I do love its simplicity and interesting history. Still, I'd choose a Typ 1 or Typ 2 Volkswagen instead.
There are so many videos that the Yugo is the worst car, and the very fact that every car that has been filmed is still working, is 30+ years old and is in driving condition, maybe not for the city, but somewhere in rural-farming conditions where you don't want to drive a new car, it can still be done to be used. Pure American bullshit, how many Fords are in driving condition that old?
@Jameskii You might be the only person on the face of the planet with a freaking *BUILT* Yugo engine. That is insane. And so are you. But we appreciate the content.
“Breaking news : some random guys turn a shitty car into a war machine that can explode at any minute any second, police are currently investigating the car in case it got a weapon installed into it,since it’s modified by these maniac”
In Serbia / Yugoslavia we always say: "If you learn to drive on a Yugo, you can drive anything" They either break down daily or last for decades, almost no middleground haha I have seen a lot of Yugo racers over here :)
This Yugo is like something you find in The Long Drive. Frog in oil, engine held in by hopes and dreams; and 70% coolant, 28% oil and 2% water in the radiator 😂
I LOVE THIS! I occasionally drove a Yugo in the late '80s to deliver catering orders. I had to drive it like a race car just to keep up with traffic. The one time I tried honking at somebody, the front of the steering wheel fell into my lap! To actually put a racing motor into one of these, fulfills my teenage dreams of driving that Yugo like a race car AND actually go fast! That car and they crappy catering van from that same job tought me how much fun it is to get a crappy vehicle to simply make it from point A to point B. Driving that crapbox was always an adrenaline rush, knowing something could break and require huge skill to prevent disaster at any time.
Owning a yugo is really just like playing my summer car in rear life. Also mad props to you for actually opening up and fixing the gear box. I’ve done it once for practice in school but it just doesn’t look like it becomes less of a nightmare
I know nothing about cars, but seeing James so happy working on his...car....makes me wanna know more about it. SO PLS MAKE MORE YUGO CONTENT JAMES WE LOVE YOU ❤
I’m so impressed with you, your passion and your unfailing optimism, please try to keep all of it even though you seem to be struck by a lot of bad luck lately. Been silently watching for many years now, and seeing you evolve outside the gaming streams is lovely
As someone who has had a handful of projects and just finished an NA/T build on my legacy, seeing you run into a speed bump every step of this project is so relatable
we need to get this man back to making some fucking money, this is insanity that he still puts this much work into videos and still doesn't get paid for it.
My first time on this channel and holy moly are you tenacious and resilient. Can't wait to see more of this project, hope it works out for you financially and health-wise.
How come i rediscover your channel after years of not watching, and the Video is such a banger. I really hope that you will continue to make car content
If you plan on driving it, you might want to beef up the structural integrity at the rear. Yugo bodies are known to be built too weak at the back and it's the norm to strengthen them when tuning. The earlier 101 model from zastava has the same issue but at the front end and there it can be remedied by connecting the top of the suspension towers together. Also i would advise to never actually carry the spare wheel under the hood of any zastava, it has the tendency to end up in your lap when the car's in a front end collision.
been a long time fan watching you go from gmod to cars makes me happy as i love cars and working on cars and im excited to see how this project turns out.
Ehh not really, I do IT so I can do cars and music, but I hate IT, and still it pays more bills than anything else. Some people just always had goals in mind and had strong foundations to jump off of.
