I was amazed at how awesome these hummingbird videos from my iPhone 11 looked! All I did was set my phone on a tripod next to my hummingbird feeder and press record.
SUBSCRIBE TO BIRD WATCHING HQ - / birdwatchinghq
I didn't edit these videos. Nor did I use any filters or special lenses. Literally, just hit RECORD. These clips took a few weeks to gather, as I would typically set my phone out every morning for about an hour to see what I recorded.
All of the hummingbirds seen are Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, which are the only species that live in Ohio and eastern North America during summer.
There are 17 different clips, make sure you leave a comment below and let me know which one is your favorite!
Here is a link to the hummingbird feeder that you see: bwhqstore.com/products/16oz-h...

Love this. Surprised there were no males. One time my brother-in-law was sitting on our back porch when a hummer flew in and out. He was ducking and weaving and said....Man you have big bumble bees here. We still laugh at that years latter.

i do like all of them, but, as many people have said, 13 is so interesting - seeing her hover, look around and feed. you can also see her little throat work as she swallows the sugar water. what i love most though is just watching all of them while birds are chirping away, the black-eyed susans are gorgeous. also, i have watched so many vids about humming birds and this is very ever first time i have heard the buzzing sound their wings make. fascinating. the first one i heard was like what the heck is that brrring sound. second bird - it was obvious. fantastic! thank you so much. from NYC. :) 🐦🕊🪶🌷🌱

My favorite is #13, because it shows the wing beats as well as the hummer’s tongue a few times. My feeder has a clear reservoir and I can see the bird’s tongue as it drinks.

They’re all beautiful clips, but I can only narrow it down to two, #13 and #17 because of the proximity to the birds so you could see their every movement and hear their little chirps. Plus, #17 was really thirsty. She took a couple very long sips at the feeder. Fascinating. Thank you. 🙏🏼

Scott, you've always got a bunch of good ideas! I like #1 because you can see how fast the little bird's heart is beating and how hard she has to work at keeping those wings beating. #4 is my favorite (photographically).

#13 without a doubt. The wings of that bird were in synch with the frames per second video speed and had the effect of sometimes motionless wings in flight. What a cool effect. Also the colors were very vivid in this one. Praise God for His beautiful creation!!!

#4 is my favorite because of the whole composition -- the position of the feeder and the flowers and greenery in the background and the way the bird moves. I have 3 feeders outside my work window & I also only see the Ruby Throated hummers tho' it's said we do have more varieties here in Iowa. I love watching them & am always sad when they leave in Sept.

Amazing videos, Scott! Your phone's camera is awesome. From my personal experience, male hummingbirds seem to be much more twitchy, erratic, and vigilant than female hummingbirds. We have a male and a female hummingbird, each with their own distinct behaviors. The female hummingbird comes to our feeder multiple times a day, and she will sit and feed contently and undisturbed for about 10 seconds, tilt her head up to look through the window, then goes back to feeding again. The male, on the other hand, will land on the feeder to feed for about 2 seconds, fly off of the feeder, look around erratically, and go to a different feeding port, repeating this multiple times. If he notices any movement in our house through the window, he will fly away.

I liked #13 the best; if you slow it right down, as she is coming in for a landing there is a gust of wind and you can see how she stops fluttering her wings and uses them to just soar on the wind; also you can see her tongue coming out multiple times. Subscribed & liked 😀 I liked all of em cuz my fave. Hummingbirds were featured! The Ruby Throat Hummingbirds. I like it that i got a nectar feeder for them. It's nice that they don't have 2 work so hard 4 the nectar. They can sit & enjoy while they're feeding. #4 & 17 r my fave. cuz the way the sun shines on them & we get a good look at them.

I first thought #8 was the best, but I really like #15 better. Even tho the mailbox is in the pic, the way our hummer moves through & the water droplets, it all combines to make a lovely scene.
