So many people don’t understand octane ratings and think higher octane fuel is a waste. At last a great explanation of how it works. Thanks VRS! I’ll be sharing this video across the forums.
Really interesting thoughts from Will on the petrol situation….but..that E46 (albeit only 3 seconds of it…)wow!….it would be amazing if the build could be documented in a bit more detail on the channel - I personally think the amount of work involved really justifies it!
Am the same, before all this nonsense i had my B5 tuned to tesco fuel and am just going to continue using Tesco as the garage round the corner from my house does it and it’s one of only a few in the Edinburgh area
It shocks me that people buy high-performance cars and put cheap fuel in them. It's around 10p per litre more, so a 60 litre tank cost all of £6 more to fill. And you'll make that back on the slight mpg increase and your engine will prefer it.
I just love listening to Will, geezer is so knowledgeable and explains things so idiots like me understand and who would have thought that Tesco fuel is better than Bp ultimate!
This is probably one of the best videos you’ve done and it was just two people sat there talking. I was glued to it because Will tells it in a simple and logical way. Probably use VRS now just based on him. 👍🏻
I do like will’s way of explaining things. So easy to understand & he puts it in a way anyone can digest. I was particularly interested in the information regarding fuel types. I’ve tried 95, 97 & 99 Ron unleaded in my 2003 Seat Leon cupra 1.8T. The AUQ engine in particular. It runs less boost & very noticeable lack of torque on 95 & 97 Ron. The minute you use 99 Ron, it’s wakes up significantly. But the car is tuned on 99 Ron from factory according to the owners manual. But I do know the 1.8t engine will not run correctly on E10 period. Great content Calvin as ever 👍
Will is great to listen to, let’s have more from Will. Had to replace 2 broken springs on my S3 this week. Mentioned to the mechanic that I’d had an engine management light twice over Christmas - PO171, mixture too lean. He reckoned it was most likely due to fuel. I normally use BP ultimate, but will look at shell or Tesco 99 from now
Calv great vid and Will is ace, how about a Q&A session with him with subscriber questions? Also can you ask Will who sells the best premium diesel? Cheers 👍
Thank you Calvin for a fantastic video. And thank you Will for explaining everything in words of English. A very cleaver man who knows cleaver stuff! The car is looking great !
Even at 61 years of age i like to try to learn something new every day. Today i have and it was nice NOT to hear one skilled technician knocking the work of another. Thank you Calvin for a great, informative video.
@@Bannana4TW never had an issue with shell myself, ive logged momentum and shell back to back on the same day same road conditions. when i had momentum in, i had timing retardation on 2 cylinders, put shell in and it went.
Had an issue with v power when mapping was getting done. Knocking the timing or something out. Drained the fuel and refiled at different shell where the tuner used, took the car back for mapping and no issues
Quick tip for the lads that done know….. esso 99 Ron fuel although it states E5 it’s actually 0% ethanol! It’s listed as e5 for environmental reasons of some sort. Esso 99 ron 0% ethanol have great results when logging, infact I had to slightly pull back fueling as the STFT were wanting to pull fuel. Good product 👍🏻
@@karl8805 maybe for the non 99 but I can assure you 99 Ron Esso is ethanol free :) maybe you are in areas of the UK where Esso have to unfortunately use it but here you go ....... "Although our pumps have E5 labels on them, our Synergy Supreme+ 99 is actually ethanol free (except, due to technical supply reasons, in Devon, Cornwall, North Wales, North England and Scotland). Legislation requires us to place these E5 labels on pumps that dispense unleaded petrol with ‘up to 5% ethanol’, including those that contain no ethanol, which is why we display them on our Synergy Supreme+ 99 pumps."
I always use Esso. I got sucked in with their marketing and I have a fuel discount card. Esso 99 in the 240i definitely runs better than any other fuel I’ve tried.
Hi Calvin, I saw you in your M5 yesterday (5/1/22), on the new bit of the A5 in Dunstable, I was in a Sepang Ble RS6 and I flashed you as you went past. As you can see, I am a subscriber to your channel, keep up the good work
Really enjoyed this video. Will comes across so well, no bs, down to earth, knows and loves his craft. Too many "youtuners" this guy knows his stuff. And the effort to pull a locking nut off. I've had garages turn me away. Legend. Keep this car
@@CalvinsCarDiary every video you two have done I've been glued. Camera chemistry there. I think there's not just me who'd like to see more videos of you both..do a poll I bet I am correct.
Will knows his stuff ! A buddy of mine had an F90 M5 no tune on it and running on 95 octane petrol you can’t get any higher than that in Ireland even so the acceleration was savage. I can only imagine what your one is like with 700bhp ! Good video !
Great info from Will at VRS, Thankyou, never knew about ethanol and octane and certainly BP 97 had no idea, I will only be using that to top up in future!
really enjoyed the educational side to this video Calv. Will seems like a top bloke and was extremely informative. Keep the great content coming mate, really enjoy it all.
Phew, thought tis was going to be a bad one. Liked Will's explanation on fuel, even bringing his dad into it, "people don't check their oil, why should they even be bothered about fuel" great quote! Cheers Calvin.
A very informative segment Calvin and nice to hear the expert talk about this new E19 fuel instead of listening to the media talking sh*t. I wonder what the theory is about diesel motors and the more expensive fuels? I've got a tiguan r line allspace and it absolutely loves the top BP DIESEL and has a noticeable torque increase mid range! Also nice to hear how you could get up to 20bhp in just using different fuels which has to be the best modification you can make for a few pence extra per litre👍 Very enjoyable watch mate with info we really need to know 👌🙏
What a great video a proper explanation about the fuel theres so much bad news about it on the net but explained correctly its a clearer picture ive been using E10 in my daily 1250 suzuki bandit the only real thing i noticed are bigger bangs and longer flames out the exhaust on the over run looks great on dark mornings and nights lol will be giving VRS a call as my son has built a forged engine for a mk2 mr2 and this being the second build as the first tuner mapped it wrong and melted ths pistons wrecked the internals so need someone with confidence this time round all the best mate great video
I have got a bmw e46 that went in for work and mot during August last year when the e10 fuel came out. I have not ever put the e10 fuel in it and have stuck to e5 premium and get it at Tesco and realised that it is 99 octane and much better than the weasel pee e10 variety. My car runs much better than I remember when I was using 95 Ron. So keep using the premium fuel and it will be better for your vehicle. Wise words from Will. 👍🏻
BP 97 premium is £1.52 right now at my local, the shell v power is £1.65 a litre. The 97 does have its place in the market for people who run cars that are not E10 compatible, its over 10p a litre cheaper than 99.
If your car was designed or used to run e5 95 octane before E10 arrived or you just want to stick with e5 then then 97 octane e5 is the closest thing without switching to E10. Peoples general concern was running higher ethanol and any affects. Most cars would not see any benefit from 99 octane over 95 unless it's a specific car and performance tune. So if you simply just want to avoid E10 then 97 octane e5 is the way to go unless your car has been tuned to run 99 octane. And 97E5 absolutely is superior to 95 E10. Without a specific tune, for most vehicles 97e5 represents the closest fuel to the original 95e5 to which most regular cars are tuned to run on if reducing Ethanol content is the main objective.
Fuel has always confused me. I've always been told to never use supermarket fuel because its not as good. Good to here Will dispelling that myth. I'll be taking his advice on board. Brilliant video. 👏
Wills just the greatest guy. Explains everything very well. I always look for tesco momentum cheapest 99 ron fuel out there with a high quality aswell.
WE NEED MORE CONTENT LIKE THIS!! M5 stance looks bang on spacers make that difference you didn’t know it needed 😂 700+ bhp with right fuel bang on 👌🏽 shell V Power >>>>
I have an old 2004 Octavia 1.8T which I don't use that often due to a work van, probably goes out every 5-7 weeks normally & always starts on the button & never let's me down. Used the last of the old fuel in the tank a few weeks ago & just put £20 of the new E10 in due as that's all the cash I had, drove home and all fine, next trip out and the car starts juddering every now and then, couple of times in a 40 mile round trip. Next outing out same thing but more often and only 20 mile round trip his time, had done a little research and fuel kept coming up with the new E10 being an issue... Stopped off & filled the tank up with E5 super unleaded and apart from some of the old fuel being burnt off the car is back to normal... Will not be using that again.
Great to get some good advice on fuel.. I need to stop listening to my brother who said all fuels the same and I was wasting my money putting Shell Power in my Audi TTS.
Will is just a fountain of knowledge and really knows his stuff, really interesting video. I had that were the locking wheel nuts had been gunned on, really does my head in and is just laziness.
Supergramps from mighty car mods runs ethanol. That things a beast. Also I jumped on this video imagining you'd put diesel in it mate. So glad it wasn't that. Great video as usual.
Could listen to will all-day .reminds me of that guy why does the cossey. Love the wise older generation .will we be even driving with the Brian's of 2000s children
Loved the info on Fuel really useful information. I always like to use shell even though I know Tesco is probably just as good as I took my old m2 for tuning once on shell and once on Tesco monument and they did the exact same numbers.
Wicked video cal👍🏾 I find that shell petrol burns quicker and you get less for your money than tesco momentum..... tesco momentum all the time mate it's a win win👍🏾
Both tuners I’ve used in the past have favoured the Tesco over the Shell. They said the same as Will, Tesco is cheaper and slightly more consistent availability wise across the UK.
Always put either Shell vPower or Tesco Momentum in my Cupra but 85% it has been momentum apart from the er fuel issue when only ASDA was available then I put Octane booster in and it ran awesome.
Just buy your own Ethanol and mix your fuel to the required octane you need, been doing it for years because I cant get 99, delivered to your door for about 2 quid a litre easy 🤷♂️ 7l 95 ron 3l ethonal =100 octane
This isn’t the first time I heard something like this about what Will said based on the fuel.. and before I was told about I never used to use esso 99 fuel
