Use some polishing compound and a buffing wheel on a dremel to turn the inside of the lid into a mirror. It adds zero space to your kit and is super useful. It can be time consuming, but it's worth it.

I saw this as an option. I’d do it if it were a true survival tin but this was more or less just for fun.

I got rid of my car two years ago living and working in an urban area. I just got a car for COVID/change of position. Previously, I carried a lot more as I needed to have a full first aid kit (in an altoids tin) and variety of other things. However, I’m downgrading now that I have a car, so here are my two cents (and what I’m literally putting in mine now): ear plugs (loud concert/place), $20 (pay off a bar tab if you forget your wallet), sewing needle and thread (ripping pants), hair tie, two band aids, blood stop (I get a lot of bloody noses and sometimes you need them to stop really fast before a meeting), micro fiber cloth (for glasses), alchol pads, ibuprofen, antacid, a days worth of meds (normally I carry 72 hours worth on me but slimming this down), a pen, and I may get those cables you had as my current cables wouldn’t fit.

Great video and nice idea Taylor! I'd do some different stuff, though: include a lighter (it is more practical in urban context); leave the LM Squirt as it has almost all the needed tools (including a blade, so that would leave more space by taking the other two blades out); include a titanium toothpick, as you said; include some paracord (you can make a sleeve for the box, so no space would be needed inside); include a small D-schakle/carabiner! That would be it ;) But this is a great box and idea! Maybe some day you can make a video with submissions of this kind 👌🏻 Edit: include a paper clip! Always ;)

One added benefit I could see for carry wooden toothpicks over titanium or plastic is that they can be used in a pinch to fix a stripped out screw hole in wood. A couple instances that come to mind are the strap button on a guitar or a door latch plate coming loose. Makes sense too since the kit has a screwdriver.

First off, Mr. Martin, let me say that I'm a first time viewer. Followed a RU-vid recommendation, because I love the topic of EDC and I get lots of ideas that sometimes influence me to change up my carry. At 0:20, when you tipped up the Altoids tin, I thought to myself, hasn't anyone told him it's 2020 and he isn't teenager!!! I'm so glad I didn't click off, because this is one of the best pocket kits I've ever seen! I can't wait to see some more of your library of work. Definitely an LSCS for the algorithm. Second, what a great community you have on your channel. I must have read at least 100 of the comments and the feed back is incredible. Many great inclusions or substitutions that are great! Dental floss, cash and a tiny magnet, come to mind. But more impressive! Not a troll in the bunch!!! A video goes out to an active audience of nearly 150 thousand people and you couldn't find one! On the INTERNET!!! I have to DM you on one of your other sites, so you can share the secret of that one. (-; Finally, my two cents worth of suggestions: I would swap out the Leatherman micro, I can't help but feel a pair of pliers would come in handier in an urban situation like, holding down that nut while tightening the bolt with the screwdriver. at least, more so than the larger scissors, which I would want in my suburban/bordering-on-rural kit. Add in the floss, $40-100 cash (I don't have a feel for how thick the gear was already and $40 will get you an Uber back to the hotel/home, which is what something like this kit is meant for) and the magnet (or magnetize the needles, because, even in an urban setting, if you are unfamiliar with the city, it might help to know for certain which is north. Sorry for the verbosity, but what can I say: a true Boomer, through and through! LOL Keep up the great work, Best of health and success to you and the family,

@@sda4jesus1 I was going to comment you should go look at the Urban Prepper. My Urban Altoids Kit is in a Krispy Kreme Mint tin because of both your influence. I carry a tin because of Urban Prepper however I also have an EDC carry which has been effected by Best Damn EDC. My tin is the basics that I always carry and for example it does not have a blade so I can remove my EDC blade if the situation warrants it (UK life for you). One thing I carry that no one else seems to is a CPR face mask.

I always like these mint tin setups. I've used them as modular groups use for my bags that I can keep or grab and go - much smaller one for medication (but greater variety). One for first aid (wipes, etc). If there is anything that isn't carried elsewhere in my bag, (Leatherman multitool & battery packs) or EDC (key setup (cables, Sim tools) or pockets (Leatherman CS, Space Pen, handkerchiefs (the Earth equivalent of a towel.)) that could be useful I will setup a dedicated set maybe PC related (SD card etc). Good setup I liked it.

I am sure there is something on the multitool or the utility knife to use on the ferro rod rather than the scalpel. As a healthcare professional I see all kinds of uses for a scalpel that size. Added it to my list of things to buy. I have always been intrigued by the idea of a micro kit. I keep playing around with building one but have not come up with MY solution yet. Thanks for the video. Well done Sir.

Ok, here is a suggestion: Take a plastic soda straw and cut it to length to fit in your Altoid tin. Next, take a pair of needle nosed pliers and grip one end of the straw, leaving about 1/8" sticking out the other side of the jaws. Take a lighter and melt the 1/8" part and then quickly squeeze it together with the pliers and hold it for about 10-15 seconds. This will seal the end of the straw. Next, squirt some anti bacterial salve into the straw leaving about 1/4" of space at the end. Repeat sealing process and oila! It will fit in your tin nicely and be there is needed.

That surgical blade is an #11 blade used to remove sutures. Throw a 3/0 nylon suture in that kit and use the multitool as a needle driver and you got yourself a pretty decent laceration kit that can easily close laceration 6-12 inches in length

I have made about 5-6 of these tins for different purposes a few years ago when I first got into EDC gear. The last tin I made about a year ago I had: a credit card shaped Ian Sinclair knife, a couple of Grim and Readyman tool cards, a Pico pen and post it combo card, duct tape wrapped around a card, a multitool card, $20, couple of stamps, emergency numbers, glow tape on the inside lid, reflector tape on the outside bottom, P38 can opener, fresnel lens, and a velcro strap around the closed tin. I made a hygiene tin that I used a lot that had: Listerine strips, condom, Shout wipes, Lens cloth, instant foaming tooth clean(Rip Pack), individual hand wipes, dude wipes, deodorant wipes, solid cologne, individual wrapped towel pucks, Biofreeze trial pack, nail clippers, Medilyte energy tablets, and hangover pills.

suggestion: get rid of the redundancies regarding cutting tool, maybe put a micro fixed blade in there. the buck hartsook is cheap and available in s30v with bos heat treat. another suggestion: put a rubber band (cut apart bicycle inner tube) around the tin, that way you can further utilize your ferro rod, because you have good tinder. you can also cut up that rubber further, so it makes more rubber bands. one thing i really miss in this 'loadout' is duct tape. i dont see myself leaving the house without duct tape. and i was looked at funny because of that, but everybody was happy to have me putting some of my duct tape to use when they needed it;)

One recommendation: put all meds like alc wipes, bandaids in a zip tie bag, and put on a TOP of all that gear. It easy to take off(zippac hold all together), and pick multitool for example, but if you get cut it makes much more easier take care of yourself, not taking off all your stuff to take one bandaid from the bottom.

Mirror, fresnel lens, paper or couple post it notes, duct tape and a emergency blanket. You could turn the inside lid into mirror by polishing compound and a buffer. Then add couple sheets of paper preferably rite in the rain cut to size of lid to protect the mirror part rather than post it's. Cut the fresnel for fine print or fire starting. to fit add that to the the paper. Blanket and duct tape you could lash to tin with the band you have around it. Also add some water purification tablets.

Oh defiantly a Piece of aluminum foil.. flatten out aluminum foil so theres not to many cresses & cut it a bunch of times with your scissors until you feel a change Get's harder/little gritty feeling, Then wipe them off real good.. & Bam sharpened

I would add a needle and wire for sewing, and a whistle.

I personally would keep a small pack or sling bag in my vehicle. I would use the Micra in another tin and keep the Squirt in another. I would put just EDC stuff in one and medical in the other. Consider gluing a small quality zip loc bag to the underside of the lid as a pouch for the band-aid's, toothpicks, etc. and leave space at the bottom side of the zip loc for a small magnet. I was thinking that small eyeglass tool kit may be handy for some. Dental floss can double for various repairs, and the small pliers may be needed for guiding the needle. 2 separate kits dont use much room, and even Ranger banded together will fit in a pocket.

FYI, one use for that scalpel blade is for fine detail wood carving…good for backpacking art making

Very well presented and no bullshit. Include a $20 bill for Emergencies. Saved me a few times!

Wooden toothpicks are good to have on hand. If a screw strips out of wood or drywall, you can stick one or more in the hole, snap em off flush, and put the screw back in. Great quick fix. Great video! Sorry you had to apologize because of Titaner. I have one of those from Klarus that I got in a Going Gear EDC Club box. I love it, but I guess maybe it's a stolen design too...

in place of the scalpel you could put a small sewing kit to go along with the needles you already have

That looks fun. I’m going to make one with a small pelican case that I didn’t know what to do with

A glove box/ center console EDC kit is a great idea. The only major complaint I’d have with something like that would be that I’m personally very wary of keeping any electronic gear in a car for an extended period of time.
