Last month (January 19, 2024) Chaka Yumba sent shockwaves through his local Jehovah's Witness congregation by announcing his disassociation after many years serving as an elder. In this livestream interview, he shares his insider knowledge of how the dreaded "HLC" (Hospital Liaison Committee) network coerces ailing Jehovah's Witnesses into refusing blood.

Dying from blood loss and dropping BP is an excruciating death. I am so sorry for the parents who fought in Court to allow their baby to die (as the commenter’s statement was read). Poor baby. The parents will feel the excruciation of their grief. I am so sorry. This Doctrine should be out-lawed.

@@nunyabizness7785 witnessed two accident victims who denied blood, BP drops, you feel the sensations until you go unconscious or die. The BP dropping is a sensation of tremors and a long fainting. Death is no Hollywood old cowboy gunfight scene where one drops, kicks and THATs it. You feel the shutting down unless Hospice happens to see you through the process and drugs help to ease. But JWs don’t believe in Hospice. Two bloody adults who could have been saved with blood to replenish their blood loss had the HLC whip out the f--ing no blood cards. The Hospital Staff who worked so hard to save the couple, cried. JWs know not what they do. And as a result, the JW son became an EXJW. Some “witness”, eh? Who would EVER want to follow THAT?

@@nunyabizness7785 Blood loss Complications may include: Kidney damage (may require temporary or permanent use of a kidney dialysis machine) Brain damage. Gangrene of arms or legs, sometimes leading to amputation. Heart attack. Other organ damage. Death. Blood loss may not cause any more pain than the injuries. However, as blood loss increases, you'll begin experiencing signs and symptoms of hypovolemic shock, or hemorrhagic shock. Hemorrhagic shock is a life-threatening condition. It occurs when your body loses a lot of blood quickly. 😔

Saying fractions are ok is so contradictory to the doctrine. Like saying to someone who is allergic to peanuts " we seperated the oil from the peanut so its OK". Not to mention if your going to claim the bible prohibits Blood Transfusions it also says the blood must be poured out on the ground. So where did they get the fraction? Plus if your going to accept fractions then why cant you donate blood? NOTHING makes sense with this doctrine and everyone knows it, they just keep on with their cognitive dissonance

My still JW husband won’t go to Thursday night-meetings anymore…ever since pandemic and going back he says now 1. it starts too late at 7:30, 2. we have a young child and it’s a school night, and 3. not driving home late at night. Pandemic definitely has changed things.

I'm surprised that your husband is making any form of concessions for the demands made by that Cult. Most JWs would never even consider questioning or altering the expectations. They usually will do whatever is demanded regardless of inconvenience or personal preferences. I know, my still Staunch JW husband, won't miss any meetings or choose what is truly in his best interests against Watchtower Org/other JWs. Wish he would wise up, but it's never going to happen with him. 😩

Well to be honest when I was a JW I was the better one! lol 😉 did whatever the organization told me. He was the bad JW . lol. He had a job that interferes with his meeting attendance. Since pandemic and me leaving I feel like he just does it out of habit and his whole family is JW and maybe to some degree he believes but not like most JWs. He doesn’t go out in service. He believes that if he feels like saying something about God to someone he will , but doesn’t think he should have to report and go door to door. I am like ok… but hopefully one day he will wake up.

I had experience of JW organisation via my ex, who's parents are JWs. I actually had 6 bible studies, in 2022 and then the same 6 studies in 2023, I couldn't get past the 6th chapter because I wouldn't agree with what I was learning. Sadly I thought I could 'save' my ex partner who was an alcoholic, because his parents told me that he'd be 'cured' if I followed the religion and then he'd follow me. My partner grew up as a JW and I feel, as a result has severe mental health issues, he was also abusive mentally and emotionally to me. When I split up with my ex, his father (used to be an elder) rang me and was very verbally aggressive towards me and blamed me for leaving the relationship! I commend Shaka for his bravery and speaking up, I'm just so grateful i discovered this channel to help me realise I wasn't at fault for the upbringing of my ex or his awful treatment of me. His parents are effectively now feeding his alcoholism, and they've swept this issue and other issues such as childhood abuse in the family, right under the carpet, and just act like nothing has happened. So glad I saw the light and got out when I did !
@AnthonyMorrisReturns
@AnthonyMorrisReturns 5 месяцев назад
Thank you for sharing your story and well done for avoiding getting sucked into the organisation. You dodged a bullet there. Also well done for understanding that your ex-partner's issues are not on you. His dad was verballg aggressive towards you? Because that's the kind and Christian thing to do!
@b.w.7588
@b.w.7588 5 месяцев назад
@nicki5389, I'm so grateful you got out of that relationship. Trust me on this much, converting to the JW faith would never have stopped this man from being abusive, and it likely would never have prevented him from being an alcoholic. If anything, he might have used a warped interpretation of JW theology to try and justify behaving in an abusive manner toward you. And depending on how old you are, if you would've married him and had children with him, that would create a whole host of issues. Marrying into that JW family, I feel, would have brought nothing but undeserved and unnecessary disaster and heartache for you. I'm glad you were able to see the warning signs. Domestic abuse is one issue that the JW Organization, sadly, doesn't seem to put much priority into trying to help prevent within their own denomination. It would seem rare that anyone would probably even get disfellowshipped for abusing their spouse. And considering how patriarchal JW culture is, female victims might get blamed for "not being submissive enough" to their husbands and for " just wanting to stir the shit pot" with their husbands as it were-- though Witnesses wouldn't use that latter phrase, of course--but I think you get the idea.
@sparklecanada0112
@sparklecanada0112 5 месяцев назад
@@b.w.7588. Thank You! 👍👍❤ What You have written in reply, is 100% Accurate when it comes to both JW Expectations and Their Treatment regarding Females and Marriage, as well as the Complete Lack Of Insight and Accountability where Domestic Abuse is present, by Elders and Rank and File Members(JWs). I know from Personal Experience, as well as from that of others that were in my previous Congregation. This Lady not only saved herself heartache from having to deal with a Religious Cult but also from an Extremely Large number of Narcissistic Individuals Abusing her present and future. It would be a Trauma Bond that would have been painful (at best) to break.

@b.w I left an abusive unfaithful JW husband for which I was declared” unfit association” in an announcement from the platform at the KH. Before I left I went to ask for advice from an elder, a seemingly sensible young guy I respected at that time. Years later after becoming an RN and working at the local hospital I happened to find out this elder’s wife was on the surgical slate. Out of concern I asked the surgical nurse why “Mrs. Elder” was on the slate. She told me the lady was a frequent visitor to the ER because her husband routinely battered her but this time it was so bad she needed surgery! This monster was NEVER removed as an elder and that woman never left him! God only knows what lies that woman had to tell in order to cover up his abuse! And his advice to me when I asked for help? Go home and pretend everything’s OK, pretend he’s of the world and you’re going to change him by being an obedient wife! Can’t make this shite up!!!
@sparklecanada0112
@sparklecanada0112 5 месяцев назад
@@joanferguson4194 It's sickening. It's also, sad to say, not uncommon or unique to only one JW wife. The abuse happens in every congregation and is hidden from exposure. The ludicrous and harmful advice is very typical of what victims hear every single time. The Elders tend to be Narcissistic and Misogynistic at worst, or Totally Indoctrinated and I'll Informed at best. Any Abuse Victim should Always seek help from professional and trained sources. NEVER from a JW or JW Elders.

What an amazing interview and conversation!! Thank you both so much! 3 quick comments: 1) actually, I immediately interpreted the elder's comment about "if you were a girl, I would worry" in the context of some paternalistic cultures - like here in Brazil -, where if a girl says she's going to livre abroad she'll hear lots of concerns about her safety. It can be a genuine concern about young women not being safe if they're travelling alone. 2) Chaka indeed must have been a DIAMOND in the eyes of the HLC, especially because of his degree in microbiology. There's a thing called "scientific paradox": if you're well-educated on a topic, you're able to advertise/defend spurious claims (cult beliefs, conspiracy myths, fake news) with more sophisticated arguments because you can use your scientific knowledge to produce "better fake reasoning". That's why we should always scrutinize even top experts, and that's also the reason we saw so much BS coming from the mouth of scientists and doctors during the pandemic. There were numerous doctors stating "compelling" arguments against vaccines - and people believed this sh*t because of authority bias. Therefore, Chaka sure was seen as a great asset to convince doctors and patients in a more compelling way. 3) "adjusting" a sister or a brother just made me think of chiropractors "adjusting" their clients (BTW also BS in 95% of cases)... Chaka, you're a great speaker and a courageous person!! Congrats on leaving this cult behind, we hope to see you here more often! Greetings from Brazil :-)

Hi @annemariefrank. Thank you for your very kind words. I agree with point number one. From his point of view he meant that a girl would be in greater danger both physically and morally I.e. girl could fall pregnant. While I appreciate where he was coming from I think it still is sexist looking at it from the point of view of someone outside the organisation.

@@AnthonyMorrisReturns, I think Brazil is a pretty conservative country that is predominantly Roman Catholic, so it's probably more likely in many Brazilians' minds due to their strict cultural norms that a young woman is going to go out and start sleeping with men and getting herself pregnant...well, because you know, we women are oh so full of wicked wiles-- I mean, according to Christianity, we did introduce sin into the world, and because as we all know, men certainly don't sleep around. Thank you for sharing your story with Lloyd, Chaka Yumba, I'm sure it wasn't easy to risk losing so much. I only hope that with time, you'll gain far more than what you have had to sacrifice and for what you had to lose. I know it can't be so easy having to lose so much just for the sake of personal integrity and honesty. And I certainly hope that we'll see you as guest on Lloyd's channel again...hopefully at some point in the near future.

@@AnthonyMorrisReturns absolutely! Having been raised in Brazil, I absolutely condemn this kind of paternalistic approach. It's belittling and obnoxious. We keep seeing this still in the health sector, where doctors treat patients as if they were little kids... So I agree with you and, although I understand this rationale, I'd rather not have it around, too! Again, kudos for leaving and for your incredible personal journey!! You certainly have a gigantic life experience, and this wisdom no one will take away from you! Have a great weekend!

My young niece (from North England, treatment at St. James in Leeds) had cancer and chemo treatment. HLC elders told my sister and and brother in law that she'd definitely need blood and any court case would be lost and so just ask staff to do what they could to avoid blood up to the point of it becoming a life threatening situation. All were relieved to be honest. She needed blood several times. Congregation members didn't have a clue about this policy and thought they should find better doctors. It was interesting to hear Chaka say that Witnesses in Zambia are more secular than in the UK and Europe; there being few pioneers and no issue about pursuing an education. I've long noted just how 'strong' the Witnesses are in Zambia - 1:95 of the population, compared to 1:474 in the UK, consistently reporting the highest concentration of J Dubs in a nation state. With this strength of numbers must have come a dilution of commitment. Perhaps it's a case that this religion has significantly established itself as largely a family identity, much like religion in general has across the world, without necessitating a strong individual commitment. I'd be interested to know if shunning was actually rigourously enforced in Zambia.

What a spectacular interview. Chaka Yumba is such a brave man and seems to have such integrity and dignity. Most of us apostates probably wouldn't be able to muster up that kind of courage, especially when you know you have so much to lose. Sometimes I think that when I left the Jehovah's Witness denomination, I may have had it too easy compared to so many others. This man had to lose his congregation, his faith community and his relationships with many of JW family and friends. I'm glad that Chaka at least chose to stay for a while and tried to help that JW family whose child became a victim of a sexual predator, especially knowing that one of the Elders in his congregation wasn't going to be very sympathetic to that family. They needed support and care. I feel that far too often, too many people in their circumstance are probably let down by their religious community. I can only hope that things continually improve over time for Chaka Yumba. This cannot have been an easy thing to do. If you don't mind me saying so, I think that not only is it tremendously brave what he did, but I think it's also rather sexy and badass what he did by openly telling his compelling story. That raw sense of emotional honesty and dignity has to be so hard to show, especially to total strangers over the internet.

That whole "spiritual freedom" piece while attempting to find anything at all to get the elders to give it to him sounds almost identical to my dad. The irony for him was that he never could find anything at all, and eventually got himself disfellowshipped when he told the elders he would be getting the divorce and getting with another woman anyway. Fun fact: He married my step-mom 13 days after the divorce was finalized at a Church by the church's pastor, and my step mom was a more typical christian religious woman who he somehow managed to "convert" to JW with their marriage. Of course, he had moved to a different city and thus a entirely new congregation at the time, which allowed him to end up going to meetings and being reinstated within about 3 months time, even though the elders up here at his hall that disfellowshipped him had opposed reinstatement. 😂 It's a circus.

I feel that I've learned so much more about how complex Hospital Liaison Committees are. I've always found it a bit hard to believe that many HLC Elders wouldn't feel guilt over allowing so many people to potentially die, especially children. You also have Elders encouraging Witnesses to reject a form of medical treatment, that while risky and complex, it is one that they probably don't really understand. Some of them work as window cleaners, which is a noble profession, who aren't deeply knowledgeable about medical or scientific matters -- and that is concerning. But then, we do have to remember that we're talking about a fundamentalist Christian denomination which holds to a very literal interpretation of the Bible that rejects evolution as being a valid scientific concept, so can we really expect other forms of scientific illiteracy to not creep into the Witness community? The Watch Tower Society has always had a bit of distrust with modern medicine since the Jehovah's Witness denomination and the wider Bible Student movement were founded in the 1870s. And to be fair, I can understand why many people might have a distrust of modern medicine, and I don't deny the idea of some alternative medical treatments being effective, but I also feel that rejection of modern medicine, all or in part, can be potentially dangerous. The Watch Tower Society are not medically trained doctors and have no business implying that bloodless forms of treatment (which I don't have a problem with) are "more effective" than a whole blood transfusion any more than they did when claiming in the past that by having an organ transplant, you'll somehow take on the potentially unappealing characteristics of the organ donor. I found Chaka's comments about how in his native country of Zambia how the Witnesses that he knew were a bit more secular and how his family prized the idea of pursuing higher education. No matter how much the Society prattles on and on about having "complete unity", I try to remember that I think there probably is no such thing as "complete unity". People can't decide on what they want to eat for breakfast, let alone what they like in their religion. It must have been an odd and awkward of an experience going to university in Russia as a Black African JW in a country that, correct me if I'm wrong, is predominately comprised of White people where Russian Orthodox Christianity (which includes the semi-autonomous Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, a multinational branch of the Russian Orthodox Church whose members live in countries outside of Russia and maintains formal ties with the Russian Orthodox Church in Russia. In addition, the globalized Russian Orthodox Church itself forms just one part of the even wider, worldwide Eastern Orthodox Church denomination) is the dominant religious orientation -- and not only that, but it is a country where the Witness faith is legally prohibited and where JWs are oppressed and face mistreatment by the State. I certainly hope Chaka Yumba will make more appearances on the "LLOYD EVANS" RU-vid channel in the future. He seems like such an intelligent, funny, dignified man with a lot of interesting JW-themed stories to tell.

Regarding the medical distrust towards modern medicine: I agree. This distrust is among the JW culture. I think the Governing Body shouldn't get involved in this. Its the individual and parent's decision of what medical treatment is recommended by doctors and free to choose. But the JWs are used to be told what to do either by the elders or the Governing Body. This reminds me during Covid , the governments around the world encouraged to take the shoot. And by that time I was PIMO and heard many JWs saying we will not take. It took the GB to talk about this in a Broadcasting or GB Update for many to vaccine. In the meantime, many died waiting for the instructions! Life is above any law,(reminds me of the lost sheep), above any crime (a bandit can be seriously life threatened wounded and they are immediately taken for medical assistance)- its common sense! I liked your comment. Greetings from Puerto RIco

I think that part of the distrust of modern medicine stems from the hatred of evolution. The average laymen doesn’t realize how much medical research is based on the fact that we do understand evolution! Vaccines, antibiotics, pain meds, treatments for cancers and endocrine disorders like diabetes, advanced surgical techniques, prosthetics etc are all based on either common descent or natural selection!

54:00 Biggest Takeaway! This means that if you are in the hospital with believing family and the hlc is there, you have ammunition to get the doctor on your side. Explain to the doctor that the patient is being coerced. (it is not only their personal beliefs at play). Because the doctor is likely unaware of this.

So to answer your question about what it’s like dealing with JWs in the hospital when it comes to the blood transfusion issue… I work in healthcare and honestly you don’t even need a committee to police members bc their family members do it all on their own. A few months ago, a patient with a blood disorder who is chronically low in hemoglobin, needed several transfusions and he agreed/signed the paperwork. Everything was setup in his room. His wife came in abruptly during the transfusion and raised hell when she saw what was happening. She believed he couldn’t have been in his right mind when he signed, she yelled and screamed even though it was disruptive to the patient’s roommate, she tried to dismantle the medical equipment and screamed at all the staff to exit the patients room and not touch him. This man was not a child. He was in his 70s and fully capable in making his own medical decisions. You could hear her yelling down the hallways, disrupting all the sick people and staff caring for others on the unit. We had to call security and have her escorted off the property. She returned a few days later acting all pleasant and calm natured. It’s scary the darkness that comes out of others. I’m not a JW, but when I see dark and hateful behavior toward others when people are at their lowest points, that tells me all I need to know about their hearts.

This is off-topic, but I think it would be interesting for you to post an update as to the impact that taking mushrooms had on you. Do you think that the positive change it had on you is still enduring now that some time has passed? In your original video on the subject, you appeared unsure as to what to make of the spiritual experience you had; what are your current views on the matter? Do you still consider yourself an atheist and if not what spiritual views do you hold? In the long term, did taking mushrooms had any other effects on your life that you are still feeling in the present?

I’ve researched and watched documentaries on the blood industry, and I just wish it was a trustworthy industry. It’s actually quite dirty and it seems to take advantage of the poorest and unhealthiest members of society so their blood is not very good quality to begin with.

@GodsChannel-gj5rc, Well, I guess if you're a straight guy who looks like a Greek god, then why wouldn't all the ladies and gay men want you. I couldn't say anything about that, even though I'm straight myself but not a man. I think a campaign to inform doctors of the punishment meted out to those who take blood is necessary. What a lying bunch at the top of the org. And they have the audacity to tout their religion as the truth when out of the other side of their mouth comes out lies, and to professionals in the medical community. 🤮

I don't know why labelling jws a cult, what are the characteristics of a cultic group that is applicable here? Then about the issue of blood and other doctrines, can you explain clearly & very sincerely too what the bible say on this issues eg ingestion of any kind of blood by humans as in the book of Gen,Lev, Act. etc why blaming Jehovah's witnesses for the Laws of God that are boldly written in the Bible

Jehovah is not the true God of divine love, he is actually the devil. It is why he demands blood sacrifices of the firstborn of both humans and animals, throughout the Hebrew scriptures. Exodus 13:1,2 Exodus 34:19, 20 It is also why Jesus was cruicified on the cross, he became Jehovah/Yahweh's ULTIMATE HUMAN BLOOD SACRIFICE, he being a Jew and the firstborn from the true God of divine love.....his heavenly MOTHER.

Any group that shuns former members qualifies as a cult. It's a sinister and manipulative practice which devastates people. No respectable organisation would do such a thing.
@b.w.7588
@b.w.7588 5 месяцев назад
@user-wm5ei8xg8c, Well, I don't really use the word "cult" to describe the Jehovah's Witness faith, but I do think that the whole idea of questioning doctrine and not accepting the Watch Tower Society's interpretation of the Bible as being something that you can get punished for is a good sign for a potential convert that you're not going to be joining a Christian denomination that values critical inquiry, dissension or doubt. The Society even refers to independent thinking as being "a concept that was introduced into existence by the devil" -- of course, the Society doesn't use this exact phrase, but you get the idea. I'm an atheist, so to me, it doesn't matter to me how "boldly" the authors of the Bible talk about not ingesting blood of any kind...whether this idea be supported in the Biblical Books of GENESIS, LEVITICUS, the ACTS OF THE APOSTLES" or not. To me, the Bible is not an authority of any kind, whether we're talking about theology or morality. I can't blame the JWs for the rules that are in the Bible, but I can hold them accountable for following rules in the Bible that I think are harmful, and I can hold them accountable for their denominational interpretation of those rules. However, I apply that standard to all Christians and religious Jews. I feel that just because a religious scripture might command one to do something, that doesn't mean that you should go and do it, especially not if it causes you to act in ways that cause measurable harm towards others, that inspire one to act in very irrational ways that might pose potential danger to others, that require you to be overly judgmental, to stick your nose in other people's business where it doesn't concern you or to try and justify acting like a bigot towards others or that cause you to unnecessarily inconvenience others-- if one acts in those ways because they think their faith requires them to do so, then I'm going to insist they stop and find some other way to practice their faith that doesn't require them to act in such ways.

Search for the word cult. Or better yet, google for example the BITE model of Steven Hassan. He describes what is a cult or a highly controlled organization and your will see that the Jehovah's Witnesses/Watchtower Bible and Tract Society Inc (company) check all boxes! In our days, the are search engines (like google) in the internet that will help you find the answers to your question (and RU-vid too if you dont like to read) No need to go to the library!

It is so funny how they quote John 6:68, but they ignore what Jesus said in John 6:53, 54 where Jesus clearly stated that unless his followers partake of the emblems of his flesh and blood, they have no life in them. These charlatans are depriving Jesus’ sheep from salvation. Matthew 23:15; 15:14; Revelation 17:8, 18:5. Please don’t expect any love and kindness from or mercy from a harlot and in this case the Mother of all the harlots. Revelation 17:5.🙌
