Looks very nice, the concept art for the characters is adorable! Edit: Also there's nothing wrong with shooting for the moon, even if you don't end up there, just gotta stick the landing :)
I think that the idea of slowly improving the condition of your soil is amazing, and using a greenhouse spaceship to grow crops is really awesome! I wish you luck on your game dev journey, and I hope that aiming for the sun pays off. Also, don't worry about your accent, you speak English perfectly fine.
All of this after only one month is EXTREMELY impressive! I’m a beginner dev working on my second ever project and I hope I can become talented as you one day. I wish you good luck, try your best to not burnout, and again, nice job! 👍
Thank you! ☺️ Yeah, unfortunately I have experience with Burnout, but I hope that I now know my limits. The flexible worktime is definitly great for me though. 😁 Good luck to you!!
Great progress in just one month! I also identify with the decision you made to quit your job, as I work as a BI sr analyst in one of the largest companies in Latin America, but I am studying Unity and C# a lot in order to do the same as you one day. So congratulations on taking risks and following your passion. New sub😁
Thank you and good luck!! It was not an easy decision, I was mulling over it for half a year. But now I am very happy I took the step. :) Best wishes to you, I hope you can follow your passion too soon.
Idea: Considering that the trees spread and grow quite fast a good idea would be if the villages would accept them as currency in exchange for repairs and seeds of other types
Hi, thanks for the idea!! Unfortunately it just looks fast in the video, cause I'm spamming the next-day-button, but it took over one in game year. 😅 My plan is to have a currency and people giving seeds for favors done. :)
Hey that's a cool idea to go for a v-tuber character for those devlogs. Good luck with the game, it already looks nice, the spreading of the trees is an interesting mechanic !
That was a lot of 'subsystems' for a first devlog. I certainly didn't expect that much xD Anyway, the concept of improving the soil condition is great! Hope to see more of it. And I totally get the "I'm doing my dream game" haha that one hit home for me xD Good luck with your project!
Wishing you a lot of good luck! Also, wow, you did very well in everything and your cats are great. Interested in how you will continue to create your game so I am suscribing. 🍀
Great respect for you to pursue your dreams! I'm in a somewhat similar boat; although, I'm not making my dream game yet! I'm a bit too scared right now to just jump in and wanted to gain some experience first with smaller projects. But my couple big ideas I have for a dream game(s) are farming, slice-of-life kind of games as well. So I'm really interested in seeing your progress with this. Rooting for you and wishing you the best of luck!
The game looks great and it is a great idea! You also did good in the video but you seemed a bit nervous. Don't be! your game is looking great and we all want to see it! you should be very proud of what you have made! Good job!
This is awesome! Cozy with an underlying dark background story! It might ruin the chill vibe, but something like solar flares, space debris, and coronal mass ejection would be interesting obstacles during the space travel portion of the game.
Thank you! These are cool ideas! I definitely want to include some cool space things, take some inspiration from the moons of Saturn, add a black hole or two. xD But the travel part itself (flying a spaceship and avoiding obstacles) might not be a big part. Depends a little bit how much time there is. :) I'll focus on the exploration of the different planets first.
Yeah! Enjoy developing at your own pace! If you ever feel discouraged in the future, you can come back to this comment and feel reassured that someone like me will buy your game when it comes out, because this is such an awesome game idea. If you're looking for plant ideas, I love ginkgo biloba for how unique it is (and the tea helps my ADHD). Wisteria and Bluebell flowers are my favorite for Spring!
Sounds like an awesome idea! Good luck to you~ Also, your cats are so awesome :D I tried making a farming game once... I gave up after having so many bugs hehe. Keep it up and look forward to more devlogs!
Loving what I've seen so far, looking forward to future devlogs - though maybe just me but I feel your virtual avatar takes up a little bit to much of the screen when you're showing gameplay.
Actually a pretty cool concept, maybe add an ability to get plants from different planets and change the back ground to look like what ever planet your currently docked at. All up to you 😁. Have a great day.
Wow, looks like you've made some great headway on your game in such a short amount of time. I look forward to seeing further developments. It's inspiring me to double down on building my dream game. (or at least one of them... ) Also: Kohlrabi is delicious and I definitely approve having a starship full of it. :3 It was one of the things my grandfather always grew in his garden.
Thank you and good luck for your game!! Kohlrabi is my favorite vegetable, which is why I chose it for the title! :D It's going to be a rare legendary delicacy in the game.
Looks great, I especially like the look of the trees and grass. I think that the concept of inheriting something from your grandparents in combination with a farming system has been done so much. If you keep that in the game, people will say that its a stardew valley clone. I can see that you are putting much work into this project and it would be sad if your work wouldn´t get noticed because it´s to similar to stardew valley :)
Thank you! :) Yeah, inheriting from your grandpa is kind of a trope in the genre now. When Stardew Valley did it, people said it is a Harvest Moon clone. ^^' I'm not decided yet if I should roll with it because it's fun and recognizable by everyone or go with something else entirely. Thanks for sharing your view. :D
👀 I was also going into research science before deciding to just art and game dev instead lol. Your art style is very soft and farming games are always a fun concept. Good luck on your game dev journey 🤗
All I can say that if you keep working on game it will be Super Geil(like in that song). Maybe it's time for me to finally start fixing my old game projects instead of watching RU-vid: D But it can be also used as an inspiration tool. Good luck and happy coding!
You forgot a cat for staying-on-track, but since you're a rookie this mistake is forgiven. If the other three are lovable sweethearts though, they might be able to pick up some slack for your mistake! Great video btw, super cute cats & game!
Love the relaxed tone of the video, keep going I'm looking forward to see more. I'm glad I found out why I've been failing at devlogs now, I only have two cats, I'm missing the determination cat! :D
@@wolkadev Hehe, I have two spawns of a devil, if I got a third one I'd need to call an exorcist regularly ;0. If you don't mind me asking, do you have some plan/rough schedule for your devlogs? :)
@@Nicknamegeneratorfailed Haha, that is what happened to me when I got Loki. Now I have an exorcist subscription. :P Devlogs will go online every 1st of the month, at 16:00 German time. :)
@@wolkadev Oki. I envy you are sticking to a schedule, I'm already a month late on my first dev log :D. German time sounds just like the Czech time so I'll be checking it out. Do you perhaps use some other socials too?
@@Nicknamegeneratorfailed That's ok, some things take time. :) I link all the socials in the video description, so far it is only my Instagram, wolka.art. But I plan to add maybe Twitter and Discord, I'll link them in the next video once I have them.
Haha, I like that you are making your dream game. Aim for the stars for if you miss you'll at least be be among them. I have a personal goal to make my dream game too using Godot and basically replicating Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (Classic).
Thank you! 😊 My weapon of choice has been C++, with some Python and Matlab here and there. I also used C# a long long time ago, so the switch hasn't been too painful. :)
The Starship will already come pre-crashed. 😅 I hope after all the repair work no one wants to crash it again. 😅😅 But I'll throw in Melons anyway!!! Watermelons! Firemelons! Airmelons! Earthmelons! Elemelons! 😆
Thank you! Plastic integrates really well with Unity, it handles the non-code assets really well (like images) and is free for smaller projects. I was torn, since I used Git so far, but after trying it I really really like it. :)
I wonder if there'll be combat in this game or some sort of being that keeps the player running, something to be afraid of maybe there's an imminent threat pursuing her.
I'm envisioning a mostly cozy game, with some darker story elements. If there will be combat, it will be very minimal. Running from a space horror is really cool, but might not fit in. I'll see where it goes... 😁
I am wondering if there were a bunch of strange cuts while you were talking and i would recommend seeing if you can minimize that but otherwise the video was good and i like your avatar also make sure your game has something that makes people want to play it and not any of the other farming games like stardew valley and build your game around that
Hey! Great progress and wish you all the luck. You say you quit your job to be full time on this game... How are you able to do this with no income? Enioyed the video and look forward to more
Thank you! :) I'm lucky that I had a well paying job in the industry beforehand, so I saved. I have a strict spending plan and with that I can work on the game for 1 year. After that, I'll either have to finish, find funding or go back to a "normal" job.
@@wolkadev oh wow. So good that you have made a plan before hand to then be able to do your dream and live each day happy. Great you have a plan set for a deadline. I really wish you all the success. Sure you'll get followers, subs and funds with and during the making of your game as sure all the passion will go into it. Can't wait for more. I'm creating also but not at the stage where you are yet.
@@wolkadev I recently decided to change direction with work, so I'm currently studying coding. Now i started playing around with unity the last two weeks and the unity library is kinda messy for me to understand at first. I would say im at a junior level so I understand the concepts. I'm curious as to how long it took you to feel comfortable with the unity library, if you are there yet? I'm dreading it will take some time to learn all the neat little functions..
@@mixuz91 Hm, it's hard to say, I used Unity for about a year a long time ago for a University project, so it hasn't been to difficult to come back to it. But I also had to wrap my head around all the things that are specific to Unity at first. I wouldn't "learn" the library, but instead watch RU-vid tutorials for the things you want to achieve. That's how I did it at least. :) Good luck!!
Looks like a great game, already looking forward to playing it! Were you inspired by climate crisis? And will all the things happening to the plants correspond with their actual biology?
Thank you!! I'd say it is somewhat inspired by the climate crisis, since the game is set in a postapocalyptic time where there are no more plants on the planet. Making the plants realistic is quite difficult, since I also have to balance it with having a fun game. But I want to make them realistic in a very simplified way. With Kohlrabi being the king of vegetables, rare and mysterious. xD
I don't want to be that person but you should have at least a part time job. I quit my job to follow my dreams in making a game but without a job I didn't earn enough money to keep a healthy lifestyle. But besides all that the game looks amazing, I can understand why you decided to develop it for a living, great job.
Interesting dev log, but I don't think anyone would mind if that anime avatar disappeared from the screen after the intro instead of taking up half of the screen pointlessly
@@wolkadev oh yeah I didnt dislike it, just thought it was a bit in the way, but yeah that is a good idea, maybe making it smaller will make it feel less in the way, i will check out the second episode eventually.
