thanks! u too Sam💗 recently found your yt channel n i'm so happy if u would know🤍 to speak about career goals tbh i wanna create my yt channel as a graphic designer and start work at this area
I’ve been planning to quit my job at the end of the month too. There’s so much out there than spending my time doing something I don’t like or care about.
Hating on 9-5s has been the trend lately so it’s refreshing to hear a perspective that focuses on the positives. Definitely don’t wanna be in one forever but it’s not all bad! Good luck with your new role :)
9-5 isn’t all that bad! Sometimes I wanna completely turn off and not think about work. Also the backend of running a business is a big pain in the butt compared to being an employee
@@rejectionistmanifesto8836 plus we all need money. Building and running a business is possible but it takes lots of sacrifices and failures way more than a professional career
@@christiansnaturestudio6599 my point is why there arent part time jobs required of all jobs. This way people can choose and not have to go into the medical field or few other places to get part time jobs
Finally, someone who is positive about working. I love working and growing in general. As someone who quit the medical field, I rather work in retail. That's how bad it got for me personally. Unfortunately, most medical professionals were not considered "valuable" and ultimately my mental health took a beating from either getting physically harassed or verbally harassed. My chief told us "this is what you signed up for to be abused". I learned, money doesnt equal power but wisdom and how to apply in your daily life does. Hope that makes sense. Hoping all the best for everyone.
Yayyyy congrats Sam!! Your new role sounds so exciting. Thanks for pointing out the advantages of a 9-5. Self-employment is glamorized so much on social media so I’m glad you’re bringing us back down to Earth haha
Recently quit my old job I did for 2 1/2 years and started a new job yesterday(Jan. 10)... I would say to myself either stay another year and do nothing or find something different... I don't regret quitting, I wanted to do something new.. don't settle for less, all I can is do my best...👍
Congratulations on finally doing what you’ve wanted to do Sam! I remember stumbling upon your videos when you were quite a small creator, and it is really insane to see how quality content + consistency can really show results! Best of luck to you in 2021 and I hope you can achieve whatever you want to this year!!
i really love the way you think. it calms me. you know the feeling of unconsiously you are saying to me to take my time, learn as you will and enjoy your journey. i needed that in my life. with all the productivity youtubers and people in general out there that makes you think yoy need to hustle 24/7, it is such a breather.
Good luck! Now I'm the opposite because I have 2 jobs now 😅. I'm still doing my Korean Language Masters but after long lockdown I craved action and connection. Now I'm Korean language interpreter in production company and I'm online Korean translation web tester 😁
I agree - I learned a lot working in corporate for over a decade. Helped me build a nest egg before resigning and I honestly learned a lot about business at the highest level. You are young and it’s great to have these insightful about yourself at this age. To be fair, I’ve invested in fintech and it’s not as glamorous as you might think. God speed brother.
Thank you for sharing!! I left my temp-to-hire role in the end of October right as I was about to be hired because the company told me to act against my ethics. Rather, I tried to put in my two weeks and they let me go. I've been job searching since then, but coming from only a few years of experience in a really specialized field (higher education / student affairs) I've been having some trouble. It's been rough but I'm trying to keep my head up and move forward towards Something Better in 2022.
I got a new job a few months ago for a massive tech company as a CRM Analyst. Before during the pandemic I was stuck at Dental software company(I had no passion for) that did not compensate compared to the work load and had 3-4 employees leave in the span of 3 months before my departure. I doubled my salary with this new gig with some bonus incentives so super happy with that. Plus the experience of something new is exciting. Hopefully others have found new adventures and dreams come true for 21-22. Cheers!
I will be leaving my job of 5 years at the end of February. No more 9-5s for me! Being self employed will most likely bring more struggle, but the trade off of controlling my time will be worth it
Hi! Thanks RU-vid for the recommendation and You for making this video!! it's very relatable for me since i've been asking myself "should i quit or not?" for about 5 months. i've been wanting to explore my hobbies as profession and just myself in general, what kept me with my job is due to my childhood financial trauma. But, i'll be joining the bandwagon after i finished one project at my job! Congrats on landing your dream job buddy!!
It's nice to hear an opinion that isn't about dropping everything and quitting. Entrepreneurship doesn't mean you just get to be free and happy, in fact it's quite the opposite for most people (I'm actually dropping a vid on this in 2 days lol). Thanks for providing a more realistic perspective that people can learn from 🙏
100%! I thought about entrepreneurship but I don’t take it lightly at all. I wanna make sure I can give it the proper investment it deserves and nows not the time 😌
Senior Engineering student.. Hypothetically speaking I should graduate next year , the whole Job thing is kinda daunting to me.. So, thanks for making this video, So I wouldn't end up in a Job that'll take more than it gives
Same here, engineering student, graduating next year and already stressing over being able to find a job that suits me but I think first I need to figure out what does suit me.
Hey Sam , I belong to tech field and its true the trends have changed , so to step out of your comfort zone is important to grow , so congratulations on your new role . Can you share with us once what is it like to be in product marketing 😁
Congrats on the new position!! Definitely agreed that the pandemic made us all reevaluate what we spend our time and effort on. I also feel you on long commutes -- by the time I got to the office (back when going into the office was a thing), I wouldn't even want to do anything because I was burnt out by the traffic to get there lol. Best of luck and looking forward to some more ✨ new job ✨ content!
Product marketing in tech sounds awesome! Congrats on the role change. I’m currently a product manager, but product marketing is definitely a job I’m considering down the line. Best of luck with the new role and happy new year!
@@SamLui Wow that’s dope. As a PM, I wish I could work more with product marketers. Look forward to seeing your future videos about marketing! I’m also planning on releasing some PM videos soon, could use some motivation from u :)
Happy New Year, Sam. Congratulations on your new position. Since I am in the minority of your viewer age group, I must say that with my working life in the past due to health related matters, I so wish that I had approached my working life in an entirely different manner. I smile when I hear you speak of being constantly aware of yourself and how you plan on navigating your future . . . how far in advance you are able to think about potential changes whilst being present in the day to day. I admire your tenacity, your ability to prioritize, and how invested you are in your life and the lives of your own future family. Once again, I am sorry for the endless babble. But listening to you talk about all of the matters I wish that I had put on the front burner in my working life, well, to put it bluntly, gives me the chance to see what might have been. I wish you the absolute best in your new position. Thank you for sharing this extremely relatable video.
Congrats on quitting, I recently finished my PhD and will be job hunting again soon but want to do something meaningful... a lot of jobs feel very empty, you know
I’m still looking for a job related to my studies. I feel stuck at my current job because I’m only part time. It’s so hard to find pre-veterinary work that pays. Sometimes I think I should lower my standards and volunteer but it’s hard to find time to volunteer when you’re a full time med student and part time worker.
Oh wow, didn’t know you were in marketing too, I was a product marketing intern for a tech start up for a year and they finally hired me but still with limited benefits. I’d like to say I’m still fortunate to have a bigger saving and family being supportive of my every decisions. So I am in a stage where I’d work remote while doing digital nomad with my sibling. I’m still trying to figure out my ultimate goal since I just graduated so I’m not in a rush to join the great resignation. But those that have been in corporate for 10+ years probably had enough of it by now.
Congrats! Product marketing role sounds interesting I would like to dabble into that space as well when I graduate next year. Is this an entry level type of position for new grads?
I'll say to some extent yes the boss can support your career growth with new opportunities, promotion, and pay raise but there also a dark side depends on both HR and his leadership if they think you're valuable enough to earn higher than the average annual merit increase, promotion, title change because in my experience with managers they are not the only decision-maker in this equation even as much as the manager can go in and bat for you; the moment they come back that they're trying but they're facing obstacles with accelerating your career growth not just once but twice then consider looking for another company because some workplace cultures have this mindset.
Dude congratulations. Good luck at your new place. As of the current moment in time I'm at a fully remote job. No benefits but that's ok because my wife has great benefits. I like how easy my current position is and it's good for my mental health. Just call center work so it's nothing crazy but eventually I'd like to do some public speaking and youtube full time is the goal. I want to be at a point where when I have kids my wife can stay at home like she wants too and I want to work from home where I am in full control of how much I earn.
I joined the Great Resignation in September 2021. Been resting since. But I also enrolled myself to a paid online proofreading course because I want to try being a freelancer and actually doing a job that I think I would love. Just a question, for the Coworkers & Boss factors, how do you assess those given that you'd only experience being with them after you accept the job?
That’s awesome! Hope proofreading goes well :) those factors are a little harder to figure out when ur just interviewing, but a lot of it is gut feeling and intuition. If you can at least coexist peacefully for the interviews, it’s a pretty great start haha
Don't accept money from the govt - they're actually taxes some worker paid. Don't go to a charity. Don't go home to the parents place. Just start your plan ... you have got a plan, haven't you?
