I honestly don't see you as a phony. What I do see is that your skills at programming have provided you the funds necessary to be able to have the option to quit your day job, travel the world with your family and start working on your own projects without having to really worry about money issues, and to me, that is the true American Dream. You always provide us (your viewers) great advice on becoming programmers/coders! I'm sincerely happy for you and your family and hope y'all have a great time! Can't wait to see your projects and dreams come to fruition!

Congrats. I will be moving abroad as well. Already sold off my home in Austin, extra vehicles, etc. I got a second citizenship and intend to renounce my US one so that is my primary reason. Dude, you and my best friend (who's a senior front end dev) are my main inspirations when it comes to coding, so honestly, whatever you do, I'll be with you. Doesn't matter if you do travel vlogs (which I personally love watching) or motivational videos, I'll be watching your content and supporting you, because I kinda feel like you're that experienced older brother I never had and I owe you a lot for keeping me motivated, telling me where and what to study to become a dev and, unlike the vast majority of tech RU-vidrs, for always telling me the cold and harsh truth about working at the tech industry. That said, go on, follow your dreams. I hope I'll be able to make enough cash in the next years to do exactly what you're about to do: travel the world. Greetings from Brazil. Edit: forgot to say I'm buying your merch as soon as I get my first job, which hopefully will happen by the end of 2022.

I've always found programming an extremely creative endeavour, but I'm sure there are jobs where you get relegated to being just a cog in a big machine, spitting out code on demand. That's one reason I prefer companies with IT-departments of no more than a dozen people or so and even better, those who will let me work alone. The sector also makes a big difference and it's not easy to tell which will be most interesting. I've worked as a programmer in the computer games industry, several times in telecommunications, in finance and in logistics. I liked them all, though the job in finance considerably less so. Would you have guessed that logistics turned out to be the most fun? I would never have guessed it; I changed to logistics simply because I was sick of the long communte I had previously. It helps too, of course, that by now I have considerably say in how things are done, having 25 years of experience and a proven track record.

I am super happy for you bro! I wish you the best and thank you for the content that you provide. I'm 44 years old and I am stuck in a dead-end job just to pay the bills. I've raised 2 kids and my 26 y/o daughter just recently purchased a $400k home all on her own. I was so proud of her that I cried. To put my tears into perspective, I'm from a small town called East St. Louis, IL. If you've heard of the place, you already know that it's the ghetto, so to be able to raise successful children has been my main focus in life. I wanted a better life for them, and now they have it. Which leaves me wondering if its too late for me to start something new to improve my own situation. If you do decide to mentor, I (I know it's a long shot in the dark) can't put into words how much it would mean to me, if you could take me under your wing. Again, thank you for your content and many blessings to you and your family.

Great Info! Working a job is no one’s dream/life goal. But the reality is when you are broke you need a way to make enough money to have the option to pursue different creative endeavors. Coding and Sales are two of the rare fields where it just takes the knowledge, application and effort to succeed as opposed to a college degree and years of slowly moving up the ladder.

I am not a software developer any kind (yet) but I heard about the industry and you basically just doing the same daily routines. Basically all workplace do the same and if you are lucky then you can do it on different places but basically all what you do is the same. In my current job I basically an all arounder and totally depressing but somehow need to make money. Doing 3 job but it takes basically all the time I left so basically nothing what could bring joy or entertainment even learn new things getting enough time. That is sad and will cause burnout so I also need to decide what I want, but still no have the required skill set to do what I would want to do. Basically if you not feel the flow and what you do is meaningful, then you need a change. I wish you good luck with your youtube project.

I did this for my last career, i was so burned out and had saved up enough money to be able to quit, I moved back in with family traveled the world, and now im trying to shift careers to programming. Love your channel man, do what you think is right especially if everything else in life is in its right place.

Best of luck! I think some people need changes like that. I did that about 10 years ago when I decided I wanted to work in vfx (besically movies postproduction) to travel a lot and work on cool suff, and I thought that was my dream. Now again I'm switching careers to a software developer, as this currently feels something I really want to do. I think it's just important to have some goals and once you reach your dream you can find a new goal. It feels exciting and I like it. So I completely get your point!

I hope everything goes smoothly and you enjoy yourself traveling man. Wanted to quickly chime in and say, personally, I don't think you came off deceiving by making this decision. I'm learning, but I know while the goal is to have stability and be able to provide for a family, I also know that it's not the end goal, but atleast a stepping stone to also be able to one day have the ability to travel, and dial the work back to enjoy life with loved ones. Again, hope you enjoy yourself bud!

Why not have it all on one channel? I know I can't speak for everyone, but I enjoy the mix of tech career videos and *mildly* personal stuff (like telling your life story and how you got here, the challenges you've overcome, etc) . Its all motivating. Wouldn't having it all on one channel bring in more money? (Im genuinely asking). I guess it depends on how personal you wanna get, but Im probably gonna watch most of your videos either way.

First, good luck man, second, I know you’ve talked about your run ins with the law, make sure the countries you go to you are able to get a work Visa, some places can be really rough if you got charged with things. My girlfriend has had to deal with it with going over seas for school.

This is amazing Dorian! This is one of the things I love about living in these times. People can do whatever they consider right in order to bring them happiness and they are conscious about it, they are not afraid to change direction and learn or experience something new when they feel that they are stuck. Really inspiring. Each and every one of us has access to learning new skills if they put their mind up to it. And travelling is the best thing you can do for you and your family! You will bond in unimaginable ways . Best of luck!

Wow! Man this is kinda sad. I finally landed a job the past Friday as a self taught software developer. Was Looking to comment on a new video of yours and thank you for the motivation but I open the video and see that you decided to leave it all behind. It gives me a very strange feeling but at the same time, if it's what you want and you have it all planned out then by all means. Good luck on your new Journey and thanks for all the motivation stuff

@@danielbee3697 I studied python as my base language. Django framework for back end web development, and then I just studied the Fundamentals of frontend : Html, Css and javascrip. Built a few projects. A Ecommerce web site and a Blog application and then I reached out to a recruiter on LinkedIn. Asked him to check my stuff and just like that, he got me a job

well, in your case it is sort of proper order of things -first you learned something valuable, and then you started to expand on it (mentoring, youtube etc) . For many ppl, unfortunately, it is the other way - they are trying to avoid learning and working hard, and want to right away jump into "self-exploration", procrastination, "i am gonna be an influencer" , and they end up not having valuable skills. In the first crisis they gonna lose their youtube income and find themselves looking for the *****y jobs. In your case it was actually smart move, to build yourself some backup plan, reputation etc.

I'm curious if this apply only to front-end developers or also on back-end ones. I agree on your view. Doing the same myself, but I like also to workout. 🙂
