Here's why I quit reselling. It's a dying industry and not for me.

Ebbs and flows. Once a lot of resellers quit those who persevere hopefully will be rewarded

100% I saw this happen in 08' late 90's to 06-07 that was the true hay day of online reselling not much competition seller wise but many more buyers then sellers and items both on ebay and Amazon if you think sakes were great during the pandemic you should have been. Reselling during late 90's to 2008 your Jawa would drop! Many came on board in that time period but 08' happen and the floor fell through you had to work hard for the same amount or sometimes less and just accept thar fact your absolutely right those that did not quot stuck it out listed listed listed no matter what the fruits of there labor eventually paid off I'm proof of that same thing is happening now many sellers who came in just before or because of covid had it very easy those that had been around for 25 years like myself and did this full tume everyday for the last 25 years knew covid was just an anomaly to appreciate but it was not to last long things were going to get normal again by normal I mean reselling was going to be a job again but if you love this job and doing it for the right reasons (not just the money) then those reasons can be a huge motivator to keep pressing on. And yes those that press on in 2024 and don't quit and just accept the fact you'll have to work hard to make the same or sometimes less as more and more quit it will mean less sellers and less items to compare with which in all honesty will be the best thing to happen for reselling it is way to crowed seller wise and item wise less sellers mean less items but does not mean less buyers because we know most sellers are buyers too so even though they might quit reselling they will continue to buy.

I’m a newer reseller (December) but I decided to source in unconventional ways. I haven’t paid but maybe 50$ in inventory and I’m at a steady 1k a month profit. I volunteer my time helping people declutter and move. The things they want to throw away I keep and resale. Similar to a thrift shop. I help people out, I get product AND keep things out of the land fill. Win win for me

How do you get your name out there. I tried posting on Craigslist and FB Marketplace. The one contact I got was a scam attempt. 😆😆😆 Sounds like I’m doing it wrong.

@nathangrah3430 I'm retired, and have a small truck, so I've been sourcing using that same method. About 3/4 of what I get, I donate to local thrift stores. The rest is mostly nothing spectacular, but I'm making enough to supplement my meager income.

I don’t think reselling is dying. I have been growing every year since I started 4 years ago. I think people need to reevaluate what they are selling if they aren’t doing well. Everything comes down to inventory because online shopping is only growing year after year. The same things you sold 5 or 10 years ago may not sell now. You have to be an expert in the category you sell in and stay ontop of trends.
@bennystratton7734

Nope not that easy when you throw in algorithms and promoted listings this was never the thing 567 years ago its not the inventory your selling I have been reselling full time for 25 years on multiple platforms including ebay and Amazon if sites are controlling who gets views and who does not it really does not come down to your inventory it actually comes down to the platforms and the controll they have over sellers and how they show sellers items to buyers again it was never like this 5 6 7 years ago.....bottom line the platforms are getting to greedy they need to losses the leash up or they will put themselves out of business because of there greed same with thrifts if they think they can kerp raising there prices resellers will eventually stop sourcing from thrifts (its already happening) and of the thrifts think they can survive on every day buyers there dead wrong the majority of there buyers are resellers there is no debating that and if they lose them they will go out of business I hear everyday buyers (not resellers) complaining about goodwills prices saying "you can get this cheaper at Walmart " again the thrifts are getting to greedy and will price themselves out of business

Good to see you man, reselling has changed and is definitely over saturated. Everyone is thrifting and garage saleing, too much chasing and wondering where inventory is coming from next hard to sustain. I still sell used but shifted more torwards finding suppliers so I can have replinishables in my niche. Margins aren’t near what picking is but no thrifts or garage sales is nice. Way more scalable. Hope all is well and love your vids brotha!

This is my 3rd year reselling but what I have realized is that it’s extremely difficult to grow paying up for items. Your best way to grow is at the bins & another big factor is location. A new goodwill bin just opened up in a way richer area. I can tell you that has had had a huge impact on my view of reselling compared to my previous bins. I only sell shoes find it’s still very profitable and just like anything make your money while you can but have a plan to get out. Reselling also comes down to ruing a business I think that’s where a lot of people fail you can’t do it all and not be burned out you have to have a good structure to succeed.

Same here but I'm an everything seller so it's always good to have pretty much every category covered you never know what is going to sell from day to day you never know what someone is going to be needing or wanting. Yep I have been selling media on ebay and Amazon since 98' oh God was it great back then if anyone thinks the covid Era was great you should have been selling in the large 90's and early 2000's

2020-2024 Is definitely not the golden era by a long shot. The golden era of reselling was a decade ago when you could walk into the Thrift store being the only one there,and walk out with thousands of dollars in merchandise for $8.00 😂 Those days are long gone. Now there is nothing but noobs trying to flip paying retail for stuff.
@nickwoo1
@nickwoo1 19 дней назад
Valid point, however, there was a huge uptick for me during the 2020 through 2023 years. I was not reselling a decade to go so I missed out on that, however, for more recent sellers, we’re definitely in a worse spot now than we were three years ago.
@GMOVER1
@GMOVER1 19 дней назад
@@nickwoo1 More recent sellers never really had a chance to be honest. Established sellers took advantage of the entire situation while newer sellers settled for $20 lunch money.

Yes people have soon forgotten just how bad it was . Businesses closed , jobs lost , people dying alone , friendships broken , but no discussion is allowed

Sales is sales - you are still doing it just in a different flavor - best of luck - not a fan of WN but everyone is different - I agree thrifts prices have gone up - but there are a lot of other ways to find quality items cheap - again everyone is different and whats available in your area

I specialize in car parts that sell locally and it has been huge swings from good to bad in the last year or two. 10 years ago it was much smaller swings and fairly consistent. More and more folks are asking for below wholesale pricing. There just isn't a lot of cash in the market anymore.

YOU are soooooo right. Everybody from seniors to college kids is reselling. Not a lot of good merchandise on the shelves. Not only that, but we're competing against TEMU. LOL. 😀

I think it is a way to justify stop doing something, it is part of humans doing that so , try to "explain" something is not working anymore for you just to justify a close, for example just today I saw an update on a shoe reseller doing so good on the low 20k a month, do you think he think the reselling business is dead ? I bet not, happend to me either, actually I did affiliate marketing for a long time doing ok on a low 60k , for me google is changing a lot and the business is really hard right now , but at the same time I see people doing 40k a month on a single website 😅, so this is not a "hate comment" actually I appreciate you videos on reselling for a long time , the point is the business of course is not like 3 years ago but people still doing very very well and making a living , if you compare the businesses I think affiliate marketing is the best , you work hard one time and get money many times jaja I did money sleeping many many times , but at the end any business is dead just is not for us now. Just my humble opinion :)
@nickwoo1
@nickwoo1 19 дней назад
Valid points. I didn’t really need to explain anything away. I could have just stopped and not said anything, but in my thought process, I feel like there are other people out there feeling the same way. But you are right any business that isn’t working for us is dead to us. 🤙🏼 Hope you continue to crush whatever you’re working on!
