Theres going to be a huge chunk of the older generation who are going to be dying alone, and will act like victims as if they didn't bring this onto themselves after traumatising their kids. All I hope is that the younger generation can break out of this generational trauma.

Toxic its a big big risk and it often doesnt work. You have to plan a lot. You need to know where you are going, double check they really want you there, be ready to get a job, be ready to start acting like an adult, be ready for your parents to play all sorts of nasty games and throw threats at you. You may even have to talk to the police. Be ready to being very poor for a few years while you gain money and experience. And be ready for freedom of choice. Its very scary at first. Oh and be 18. You cant legally do any of this until you are 18. 17 and 10 months does not count.

My parents still retreat me like their main goal is to find me a good husband even though I'm just 16. They almost gave me up when I was child just because I was a girl . I have to run away. I feel suffocating being around them. My dad constantly reminds me that my life isn't just mine. I cannot help bit feel like they own me and I hate it. I can't wait to be 18 so that I can run away.

Your mum telling you that she would harm herself sounds like a narcissistic abuse tactic tbh. You might want to read up on narcissistic traits and narcissistic parents (if you haven't already) though fair warning, it can be really tough if you learn that it describes your own parents. I went through a period of grieving - I am still going through it - because I learnt that narcissists are incapable of change and that I'll never have the healthy parent-child relationship I've always dreamed of.

This story hit home for me so much. I actually ran away at 21 with my boyfriend (now hubby), he’s African American. My parents didn’t like him at all and was just so out of touch with who I was as a person. I blocked them and ended up not talking to them for a year and half, they were only able to reach out through email. After covid, I decided to give them another chance and we ended up working on our relationship. A few years later, I can say that we have developed such a beautiful relationship based on BOUNDARIES and understanding. They absolutely love my husband and we take yearly trips together now. It’s still the best decision I made to this day.

When we moved to the States, I decided I was done with his abuse! My friends at school told me how I can get help and told me about foster homes. So a few months later when my dad hit me again I got the courage and ran away. I was in foster care until I was 21. I was very lucky to have my foster parents. I felt safe and loved. I’m 28 now, and I don’t have any relationship with my dad or my family just some cousins and my brother. I have a wonderful fiancé, his family and my friends. So blessed to have them. i also ran away from home when i was 20. i wish this video was out when i ran away back in 2020. i remember it vividly. my mom was verbally abusive, demanding, and went as far to tell my dad i was “pregnant” and forced me to take photos with my “belly” and even made a fake dating account using my name and my pictures. i remember i was so stressed, i very much started dissociating and didnt get my period for months. i started to get close with a friend i met a work and i remember i started looking for roommates and posted on my private snapchat story that i may have found someone. one of my older coworkers swiped up and told me she had a room available and her roommate was moving out. i told her i wanted to move in, and the rent was super cheap. everything was working out, it was amazing and then i told my friend who i was working with that i wanted to leave and he was my getaway car. it was 8pm when i got out of work that day (my mom did not like that i worked overtime and threatened me to quit my job over the phone that same day.) i remember being silent while she screamed at me while i was at work and thinking well im not going to be living there for long. i got out at 8pm and ended up packing my things in a garbage bag once i knew my mom was sleeping. i remember majority of my things were in a garbage bag already, so i just added some more things. i ironically was in a room that had a door that led to the exit of the back of our house. my friend pulled up and we drove off. the next day my mom went to my job and went crazy, texted me telling me she was going to get me fired. i already told my manager about her so she got banned from my job. for those waiting for the right time to move out, make acquaintances and friends, they will be the ones to help you!! you got this.

Of course children want the relationship with their parents but if parents are selfish and don’t think how their actions are harming the children, then it is better for the child to stop the abuse by leaving. i needed this. im 28 years old. my parents have forbid me from ever getting married or moving out. we live in a small village with 0 opportunities. i want to leave but they wont let me. im not even allowed to have female friends, i made one and she called me on my phone and my dad was like give me ur phone i want to hear the convo and my mum kept telling my brother to go upstairs ( cus i was in my room talking to her) to spy on me. i do not care about family izat anymore cus im a GROWN 28 YEAR OLD i should be able to do normal things like go abroad, start a family, have friends, go out, find a job. etc LMFAO EDIT: i’m 29 in two weeks & still same situation & i found out my dad hires priv investigators to spy on me at uni cus i’ve moved out for university, i told my parents i don’t miss them & my mum said i’m selfish cus of that, but tbh i’m grown & it’s normal to not always think of ur parents 24/7 lol also met this guy at uni who i live with and, i want to live with him next year as well 😍 anywayyyyy i still have to come home in the holidays, like christmas & half term etc which i really don’t want to cus im enjoying university life in the big city so much. hopefully when i get my degree i can leave 😆❤️‍🔥

most people who grew up with normal not authoritative parents will think “oh so u had good parenting” but they dont know how much this damaged us and how it can rlly create a lot of anger and resentment growing up i understand this sm because im still living at home with my parents. their somali but very racist anti black and traditional they found out about my plans to move out through my school counselor and made me quit work they dont want me to move out at all like my brother finished collge had a high paying while in college and after graduating and yet they wont let him move out their not concerned about finances their narcissistic and want complete and absolute control over me and my siblings. i get verbally/mentally abused and physically the other day i was sitting and my mom scratched me acorss my face and started hitting me cus i didnt pray on time im 16 btw my sister is honestly just like my parent racist narcissistic self absorbed conceited and an overall tocxic person shes the one who takes over when my parents are not yelling at me or sabatoging my life ik i sound so drmatic and i wish i could articulate how weird and toxic my family is but that would be like a 10 page narrative and leave it at this. im honeslty just so proud of u and rlly look up to u because i think ur a wonderful brave woman and im so happy u were able to recognize how unreasonable ur parents were and how they were stunting ur growth emotionally and spiritually this video is one of the best videos ive come across on youtube not only did u tel ur story and was raw and honest but u did so we felt less alone ur a truly beautiful person

As a brown girl with parents migrated from village to a metropolitan city it's hard for me. My dad is super conservative he tells me what to wear, where to go, how to walk, how to talk. Never encouraged me to study he just wants me to sit in the house till i get married. Since childhood he made me feel dumb to crush my self confidence but now i came to know about his true intentions. He is a misogynist and basically doesn't want any woman to succeed in her life. My mom is more educated than my dad but he never allowed her to work. Never go out other than for school or college, at home by 6 pm anyhow, don't wear sleeveless clothes, jeans should be loose and top should be tall, never apply makeup, always walk straight, not supposed to talk to any guy, never talk back even if he's at fault, don't laugh too much, never cry infront him, your mom and you are the dumb one in the house. He says he can treat me however he likes coz I'm a girl i can't just run away from my home they are saving up dowry for me so i owe them unlike my brother. It's hard but i hope i can get out of this bullshit and have some freedom.

hearing your story really gave me hope that things will get better. a bit about me: im Vietnamese and Canadian and turning 21 soon. i just completed my third year of university and im planning to move out this September into transitional housing (basically i pay rent and everything as usual but it’s a lot more affordable and affiliated with a non profit organization to help support us with our long term housing goals and mental health). seeing ur story and the stuff u went thru and how far uve come gives me hope that healing is possible. i was talking to my therapist today of how hard it is for me rn bc i have so many thoughts in my head. i know ill miss my family once i leave but i also know that staying is not an option anymore considering everything they put me thru. this may be an irrational fear of mine but im so scared to get into a relationship or have children bc i don’t wanna project my trauma into them or repeat the cycle of abuse that my family put me thru. i always hear that victims of abuse r more likely to become abusers themselves and that rly scares me and worries me bc i want to be a good parent / partner. if anyone has advice or can reassure me, i definitely need it right now :/

being someone who has been sexually abused multiple times at around the same age and being brown and having strict parents…This is the most relatable video of all time. I developed ticks and ocd as a child because of this trauma and 3years after it happened and i was dying on the inside, i confided in my mom even though i had issues with her and this was the best decision….from then on i did not get justice or am not able to completely forget or get over what happened but my mom gave me my privacy and tried to respect and communicate with me more which now resulted in me being and independent women not trying to run away from home. she helped me keep distance from that guy keeping him away, as far as possible and i just couldnt be more grateful. to all the girls crying right now and relating to this video wanting to hurt themselves… u should know u r not alone and that u will be okay. just one day at a time guys❤

Been abused since I was a child, consistently was beaten up verbally abused , they verbally abuse my friends all the time , the fights between them are extremely physical, my sister fled in the name of education and started a life for herself in the United States but I’ve been dealing with the abuse for years as a child and my only plan is to stay in this house for a few more months then move out at 17 for a couple months before I take an educational loan and move to another country .. I have exam tomorrow but all I can contemplate is wether to self harm or not or how to treat my pre existing bruises , life’s been bad... I got pushed into substance abuse at 14 and honestly the only thought that has kept me going even after this long is the idea that I can move away and maybe start a life for myself one day... tho I’m consistently scared and have allot of mental health issues, I’m drained to the point I cry to slight noises of knocking or talking , if anyone reads this I hope you pray for me and my well being, staying strong 💕

The description of your mother sitting on her couch while you are trying to study and or just wanting some space for your self is so relatable with my mother while I was going to a community college near my home as well. Looking back, I honestly regret not taking a gap year from college and instead save up some money from working and rent out a studio apartment for myself (was also near my community college) with other college age room mates. That would have gave me more piece of mind as well as keeping a healthy distance from my mothers codependency😩 I have also had my parents report missing person on file at my community college police department for coming home late at night.

I have a feeling I need to run away what should I do? I hate being in the same household as my mom. It's all about the adults and what about me? I've received the cheap things and that makes me angry and disappointed. I'm 18 but I have a curfew of 8:30 pm. I could care less! I can't be vulnerable around the woman who gave birth to me. I was trying to sell my art but I haven't sold a piece today, my frustration boiled over and I ripped up my artwork not caring at all. Why is that I make an effort and that effort doesn't get noticed or appreciated? What did I do to deserve this punishment? I have a hard time trusting God in fact I don't trust him. I'm really starting hate him because he can't tell me why I was born? If he can't tell me then drastic decisions will be made. I'm kinda getting to the point where I can't take it anymore.

Turning 18 in a couple months. I’m so ready to leave and get away from my family and from everyone. It’s so bad and it’s so draining having strict parents. I recently spoke out about being SA and nobody listened to me. My dad literally walked away as I was telling him what happened.

I just stumbled upon the video and I truly understand what you have been through. I am Guyanese was raised the same way . I heated my life for many many years. I am almost 49 years old and these memories still hunted me from time to time. I didn’t have a close relationship with my mom as well even as to this day. My heart goes out to you. This kind of pain will be with you for a long long time. Take care.

your life back then is pretty similar to mines now except i don’t go out anywhere, no extra curricular or anything i only go to school and then back home, i have never gone out with friends or anything and ofc they control everything i do, clothes, food, everything, this is why i plan to run away and i have a pretty solid plan since i’ve had the idea since i was 10 (at the time i was young and it was more like “i hate my parents i’m gonna run away” but as i get older things are getting worse) i plan to go to college out of state and stay in touch with them but after i find myself a stable job i’m cutting them off, if anyone needs any advice on how to deal with strict parents or anything you can just rely to my comment i hope i’ll be able to help 💗

@@asmaaaaaaaaa hey ofc i’d love to help, i’ll give you some basic advice but since i don’t know much abt your situation it may not be as helpful, ok so your 17 so you’re going to college soon so if you can wait until then and go out of state but if that’s not an option then definitely get a job, it doesn’t have to be a great one, even working at a grocery store but save up and get yourself a car, it might not be the best but if you do run away you can live in your car until you find something better , if you can’t do any of these lmk and i’ll try to come up with something else

i'm indian too and so are my parents, i was a good kid too.. i wouldn't go to parties, or do stuff out of cultural norms, and my mom and dad were supportive me but i couldn't pursue or get a job even at high school because they wanted me to focus on school and study and i'd just go everywhere with my parents and stay home. my rebellious stage began in high school because i had no control over my emotions- like i always felt like i could never grow or even take care of my skin hair properly due to feeling "bad" if I didn't drive or whatever then I'd be told I'd "regress". I just like driving, but not with them or long distances where my energy is drained out, and I feel confined. I just liked spending less time with them as much as possible since I always felt sad... around them at times, I would never argue with them. One day during the summer my parents told me something that made me snap, and made my perspective that I'm not competent or capable enough, that I have to change.. I can wear a shawl.. no problem and dress properly but to school I just wanted to focus, and couldn't if I didn't dress or feel good for myself.. And I have no problem with covering up, I just didn't feel emotionally good i felt isolated lonely and broke down due to the stress of school and i'd cry in my room. i do love my parents so much though...

I am always in trouble for something. I am naturally adventurous and social but I feel that my parents really stunted that development. This has led me to make some bad choices in my future about friends and relationships. developing anxiety and depression. I am 19 years old, in one year 20. Why do they still treat me like a child. They expect me to be home before 8:00, and when I stay out for a longer time, they get annoyed and triggered. They tell me that I can have fun or hang out earlier. It’s like they don’t even try to see things from my side. I have never done drugs or even had sex before. Most of my friends are girls. But they still have an issue with it. It’s like they don’t like me having a social life.

@@vilusantos100 omg same here. i'm so sorry you feel this way. i can totally resonate i just turned 20 last month and relapsed emotionally because if i'm pressured to do something like drive or help them with something like go to a different country or whatever. I just have so much fear instilled in me i don't wanna break them but i want to take care of myself in the process words cant really describe it unless one goes through it and i had to deal with it along with my sibling- they go so against my ideas even when it doesn't affect them. and i still feel like a child and can't grow either, but yet i don't blame them, but during high school it was tough for me because i was just "existing" rather than "living", i just wish i didn't have the fear of ruining my clothes or whatever if i go out with them or something it feels like i can't be myself even if it's the most decent thing- fully covered and if its bright or flashy or sparkly or even dark or too tight they'd judge and i don't even tuck in my clothes..., or even if i wear a leather jacket... it looks raunchy to them.. i can tell with their disapproving glances. and i wish they'd be a bit more understanding, as I do dress decently and loose clothes too, but then when my sister doesn't I have to take the blame for being the older sibling not being "a good role model" but don't worry it gets better :D it always does. because i feel like sometimes im scared to speak up so i dont want to blame anyone and that holds me back. what i wanna do is break free even though people would say its bad or selfish but i just need to be content- yet not alone, i hate being alone and lonely for too long. i need someone who understands me just like in this video her lifestory she was saying

Honestly, I should've left my family a long time ago. I've been through a lot: being in the foster system due to their lack of raising me. But, going back home didn't change a bit.

I’m Guyanese too and my mom is strict also. I’m in college and still don’t really leave the house. I barely asked and when I did it was usually a no. I told her that the reason I don’t like going to the grocery store or the train or anywhere else was largely due to her not letting me go out even occasionally and she flipped. Wouldn’t even listen to me just was saying how she thought she was doing what she should and she should have just let me do whatever etc

Deevaani Im so proud of you for being brave and understanding that you're mental health and well-being was more important than your parents desire to control you. There are so many who weren't given such an opportunity, so many who don't have parents, or even know who they are.... who have no place to go, Who may be in worse situations than us. (prayers for them please). I'm glad you had support. You seem like a well put together, beautiful young lady. Brave of you to share your story. Be well.
