Okay so speaking of Caroline, I feel the whole sitch with her is that American Girl didn’t give her enough time to become popular it’s not at all that she “didn’t sell well” I ADORE caroline’s collection! Every bit of it! I love the 19th century and early 20th century fashion so of course Samantha (Sam is my number one favorite collection and doll), Addy, Marie Grace Cecile, etc are my FAVORITES! I just wish Caroline got more of a chance 😢
Ranking off the clothes (sorry I'm not into the furniture and all that): 1. Felicity/Elizabeth 2. Maryellen 3. Addy 4. Kirsten 5. Rebecca 6. Samantha/Nellie 7. Molly/Emily 8. Melody 9. Josefina 10. Kit/Ruthie 11. Caroline 12. Nanea 13. Cecile/Marie-Grace 14. Courtney 15. Julie/Ivy 16. Kaya Reasonings (and this was made before I watched the video; I paused it at 1:53): Felicity and Elizabeth have amazing clothes. Until Mattel took over, all of Felicity's clothes except the breeches and the night shift have a slit in them so you could line her pocket up with them. That's an amazing detail. Maryellen, I just love the overall look of her 50s wardrobe. Addy, even though I still don't have her (I'm intimidated by collecting her clothes), Addy has always had amazing clothes. Even when they did the stuff without Pleasant Company, it wasn't bad. Hands down, Addy's Christmas dress is my favorite outfit in AG history. Kirsten, I have a soft spot for her clothes. I love the pioneer look. I love calico print. Her winter outfit with those gorgeous black and white knit accessories is one of my favorite outfits ever. Rebecca, she's my favorite doll and her clothes look good for the most part. The swim suit is ugly, but that's how they were. Those satin pajamas suck so hard. They're cheap and are just terrible. Skip them. Don't buy them. Buy her original pajamas or the nightgown. The quality is garbage. Samantha/Nellie, It was really good but Samantha's Beforever is too girly for this character. Molly/Emily, the clothes have grown on me. I got Molly last year and started collecting her clothes. They're growing on me. I just liked the other 2 original collections better. Her Beforever Meet outfit is fabulous. I will give Mattel credit for that one. It's better than the original look to me. And it still keeps with the spirit of the character. But I do prefer the original glasses. Melody, love the doll and many of her clothes. I don't like a couple of looks (but I have all of her clothes and buy them as soon as they're released). The Doo-Wap dress bugs me. It's period accurate, but it's not age-accurate to me. IDK. Josefina, lots of really good stuff. A few of the Beforever outfits are questionable. I don't understand the pink shoes that came with her Festival Outfit. I don't understand the bows or the color. There is no pink on that outfit. It's so odd. Kit/Ruhie, I don't have them. I have 2 pairs of Ruthie's pajamas though since I got them in clothing lots, and I have Kit's candy making dress since I found it for $20 on Mercari with the shoes & couldn't pass it up (now it's an Easter dress for my modern dolls). I like the pre-Beforever stuff. The pajamas are so odd for her. One day I'll get Kit. But my next big backcollect doll will be Addy unless Kit shows up in a thrift store... Caroline, everything's pretty except that blue satin monstrosity, but there's hardly nothing. My Caroline has 3 outfits I bought from Etsy for her time period. She needed some pampering. Nanea, it looks good. I'm not a big fan of tropical stuff. So I don't really have this desire to buy Kanani set during the 1940s. I think Molly's collection is stronger for that time period and more representative since more kids would have worn her clothes over Nanea's. But Nanea's story is really important. And I like that they did offer that perspective and setting. Ceclie/Marie-Grave, same complaint as Caroline at the lack of clothes. The dang cost of buying the summer outfits. Yuck. Luckily, I got Marie-Grace's summer dress on a Kailey doll, so I justified the price since I subtracted the price of buying a doll from it. The fancy dress is so...it's the colors. It looks like a cream puff mixed with toothpaste. Courtney, her clothes are mostly early 90s. That's my beef. You want to know where the beef is? It's right here. And yes, that's an 80s reference. Julie/Ivy, Ivy's clothes are great. Julie's pre-Beforever stuff is good. Beforever ruined Julie. I'm also tired of seeing her. Can she retire and we pull someone like Caroline out of retirement so she can get new clothes? Kaya, most of the stuff is modern. If I was judging the non-clothing, then this could have changed the position since that's most of her stuff. Edit: These are the collections I own all the outfits to: Felicity, Elizabeth, Caroline (except the skates, I have the boots from the skates, so I have no interest in the actual skates if that makes sense), Cecile, Marie-Grace, Maryellen, Melody, Courtney Close to having everything: Rebecca (missing 2 outfits), Nellie (no interest in the modern outfit & am just missing the Meet outfit since I haven't bought her yet), Josefina (missing 3 or 4 outfits), Kirsten (missing 4 outfits). I have most of Molly's outfits too. And a good portion of Samantha's.
Video suggestion: Your favorite and least favorite outfit for each doll. You could do it for historicals, GOTYs, World By Us, CYO Meet outfits. I think about this all the time with my dolls. For the historical dolls I have, I have favorite outfits they wear more than other outfits. Examples: I love Felicity's summer dress. I love the cool white cotton, I love the big hat, I love the pretty sash. The shoes are a little meh, but everything else is amazing. For Rebecca, I go back and forth between her play dress and her school dress. Apparently I like her in blue. Samantha, hands down, it's her school dress. For Maryellen, I love her swimsuit (even though she's not in it all the time). Kirsten, it's the winter dress with the pretty knit sweater and hat and mittens. Melody, I love her birthday outfit. Cecile & Marie-Grace, the summer dresses. I love both of those. Caroline, I love the work dress. Things like that.
I've heard a dozen youtubers say that Samantha wasn't girly, & I'm sorry I have to disagree. Yes, she climbs trees, rows boats, & loves nature. She also wanted a dainty, frilly party for her birthday! She loved dolls, got excited over dresses, made pretty Christmas decorations, enjoyed ice skating, & liked lacy Valentines. Samantha was a good mixture of mischievous fun & what was prim & proper for a girl of her time.... I don't know how you're able to do all these ranking videos. It'd take me months to make my mind up. 😂 But I do enjoy hearing your thoughts on everything. 🙂
I think the reason everyone points that out is because Mattel made the collection too extreme. There was a balance in the Pleasant Company historical collection. I called it "Samantha, as designed by Barbie."
@@luckdragongirl True, AG did go overboard with assigning the color pink to Samantha. They did the same thing with Rebecca, giving her only purple & blue. I wish they wouldn't be afraid to use a variety of colors like they used to. We never see any black, brown, dark green, burnt orange, or butterscotch.
My thoughts on Courtney are that her clothes, for the most part, are kind of ... "idealized" 80s fashion. I mean, yes, people wore this kind of stuff with all the neon and wild patterns, but when I think of real 80s fashion, it's more along the lines of, say, Mike, Lucas, and Will from Stranger Things. Lots of primary colors and warm palettes of brown and yellow and orange. Not so much neon. That's what I remember from the 80s, anyway. However, one thing they got SO RIGHT was her Care Bears sleepover set. In fact, I'm pretty positive that I had the same nightie and sleeping bag, and I definitely had the plushie Bedtime Bear - I still have him, in fact!
i think my top fav collections currently are kaya, felicity, caroline, samantha, and kit. not in particular order. i also love claudies but i can’t put it in my top fav yet cause her collection isn’t finished yet.
Hi Kyla, I liked this video al lot. It was interesting to hear your ranking. I loved that you made Kaya number 1! I love her so much. I have almost completed my historical girl collection including the best friends but I am missing two or three. I don’t collect the furniture or even many outfits or accessories yet but Caroline is close to number one in my collection for just the doll. I may do a ranking video of my own at some point. Every these dolls are beautiful: when speaking about the American Girl you mean the elite of the dolls, they are at least a span over all the others. I'd put at the top Rebecca and Samantha, as they have something special, a charme that bewitched me; I have a great admiration for their real characters too, not only the dolls. Between the others, I don't know which choose: are a bit under these two, but I like everyone at the same way.
