I wonder if its the fact that Fill is essentially creativity, and benefits from psychological advantages like confusion or deception, whereas Essence is "getting the job done". Ultimately in a competitive setting your goal is to win. So this isn't art, because in art there is no goal. So Essence is ultimately king. But we are humans, and top tier Fill can fuck you up. But ultimately if you are psychologically unmovable, Essence wins. But it's a battle. I'm obviously thinking about Mango vs Armada here. I definitely enjoy both styles but I have a feeling that Essence has a slightly higher ceiling than Fill, possibly.

Fill = Swaggy, not going for bread and butter conditions like rest, wobble, etc. Pure = Non swaggy, doing what it takes to win. Slower gameplay. Going for knee, rest, etc Make sense?

Essence means the player has a specific gameplan and uses a “flowchart” type play style to exploit their best moves and optimize their punishes. Fill means the player doesn’t have a narrow play style and often get custom with their punishes.

Nobody can truly be all fill and play the game at the highest level. But Mango is undoubtedly the closest thing to 100% fill of any other player.
