it's not a fanfic but one good example of enemies to lovers is Cruel Prince by Holly Black. They literally try to kill each other

I have a strange relationship with mafia fics cuz I grew up reading EXTREMELY good mafia fanfiction, but as I grew older I realized that the good mafia fics are limited to this very specific tiny chunk of my forever fandom.

Regarding mafia fics. I think the appeal is more focused on being completely wanted and protected by someone voluntarily. Most of them are written very,,,,,,,, negatively because ppl like hurt/comfort for some reason and that's almost always done badly

The only mafia au fic I’ve ever read was a Star Wars one called Money Power Glory. I don’t care if it’s cringe, that story was POWERFUL

They usually end up with the mains running away together to escape the violent lifestyle lol

It's so rare to have relationships in BL that have good relationships and tropes from beginning to end. Enemies-to-lovers: Buffy & Spike, Hannibal Lecter & Will Graham (hard to say if they ever stopped being enemies TOO, though), Teen Wolf: Scott & Allison, Farscape: Aeryn Sun & John Chrichton, Grimm: Nick & Adalind, Doctor Who & River Song, Elementary: Sherlock & Moriarty... At least the mafia-vs.-hitman is TWO bad boys - you can go with them staying bad boys, or "finally finding someone who can relate to them". Can recommend KinnPorsche, the gayest of gay mafiadramas from Thailand, mostly because it's so incredibly over the top in every possible way. :D Unhappy endings: I'll spoil myself. Watching C or K-dramas? I google to see if it has an unhappy ending, because life is too short for me to engage and get obsessed with these characters for 60 episodes only to watch them die tragically. I can, in a pinch, for some cathartic pain, handle bittersweet endings, but not outright despair.

Gotta agree 😂 I’m not a fan of the mafia boss (or god forbid SON of a mafia boss) trope. I don’t read fan fiction, but I do listen to asmr and the mafia boss trope never interested me. Like why would I want to be in a relationship with a mafia boss? Bullies? Sure. Vampires? Fine. Dilf’s (especially those who praise me)? ABSOLUTELY. Even Yandere stalker who kidnaps me I can get in on every once in a while. I awoke my daddy kink fairly quickly, but the mafia boss lover yet remains dormant. Or probably nonexistent.

I see your Forced Proximity: Romance edition (arranged marriage, fake dating, etc.), and raise you Forced Proximity: Joint Problem edition- Because forcing characters to be romantic with each other before they're ready, I kinda hate. It feels bad. They're making the best of a bad situation, they're not having fun. However, "I have a problem and only you can help me solve it" or "we have the same problem and need to help each other" is potentially very sweet, not inherently romantic, and infinitely funnier when combined with Rivals to Lovers It's Rivals to Lovers with a common goal- that's all- but I think it's nice

Using transgenderism as a way to be homophobic/biphobic is really fucked up. Both gender and sexuality should never even be a subject of strong debate, both are different and non-negotiable. You are who you are, you're attracted to whom you're attracted. Not being attracted to trans people is not being transphobic at all because sexuality is not a choice just as being trans isn't one.

You know, the mafia thing can work if it's gay, and everyone is desperately poor and has ptsd. A bunch of scrappy guys just trying to survive, who fall in love and try to keep each other out of trouble type thing. I've seen it done well with Kpop rpf, both for BTS and Seventeen.

The closest thing I can think of to a good "mafia" fic is the Wee Doctor series by americanjedi - and even that is only tangentially mafia-related.
